5.0 out of 5 stars The best 70's porn film soundtrack ever, November 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pillow Talk: Very Best of (Audio CD)
In the late Seventie she became the godmother of rap, founding Sugar Hill Records, the first rap label. But before that, Sylvia recorded this nasty gem, taking double entendres to new highs. "Pillow Talk" was the hit, with lyrics about having to "borrow your pants some cold and lonely night". But there were other winners: in "Didn't I", she coos "at last you know I'm not margarine - but I am a high-priced spread!"...and in "Had Any Lately?", well, she mixes a come-on with a Vietnam protest song. The best track, though, is "Not on the Outside". You can almost get a contact high from this song: all the musicians play like they've smoked some serious herb while Sylvia dedicates the song to her dead songwriting partner - on whom she admits changing the song to her version now that he's gone. She even plays acoustic (or, as she says, "a-cue-stick) guitar on the track, and finishes the song in a self-orgy of moans. Classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars When will this CD be in stock?, November 6, 2011
This review is from: Pillow Talk: Very Best of (Audio CD)
I ordered this CD a month ago. I was aware that it was temporarily out of stock. But now I'm just disappointed. One month later and not even 1 or 2 copies available. I want to pay homage to this great innovative legend. This is music that deserves to be in my collection. I highly recommend that others purchase this greatest hits package as well. You'll be able to just sit back and chill with the smooth, seductive, quiet storm offerings from Sylvia.

5.0 out of 5 stars RIp to a very talented Artist, October 5, 2011
This review is from: Pillow Talk: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Sylvia RObinson would make a bigger name for herself as being a founder of Sugar Hill records and helping bring in the Sugar Hill Gang and also bring GrandMaster flash and the furious five on board years later. but this set right here showcases her solo career and "Pillow talk" was something else and so smooth and direct. where R&B/Pop and Hip Hop have gone since makes this a track just blush, but back in the day this was risque for its time. Sylvia was coy and so cool with her's. these tracks though are well Produced and composed and very much in groove. she was the real deal and worthy of being on one of the tv one's Unsung's. She hasn't fully ever gotten her just due as a Artist. this is a strong set that showcases her talent and creativity and how she knew how to play on words.this is soulful and on time still.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sylvia - Pillow Talk..., February 4, 2011
This review is from: Pillow Talk: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Sylvia Robinson was fairly "ahead of her time" with the Sensuous Sounds that I grew up with in the Seventies. An Honest-to-Goodness, true R&B & Soul artist. The standouts for me on this collection are, or course "Pillow Talk" and "My Thing." A little too risque at the time of it's release, both these songs found their way to AM Radio in 1973.

"Pillow Talk" in particular ruled the airwaves for several weeks (#1 R&B) and made the top five (number three) on the Pop Charts and deposited a gold record in Mrs. Robinson's pocket! I have the original vinyl somewhere. Unlike the vinyl, the extra cuts on this collection are:

10. Next Time That I See You

11. Gimme a Little Action

12. If You Get the Notion

Honest Soul and R&B from the seventies are right here to be found! Or, rediscovered!.

Come and get it!

I rate Sylvia Robinson and Pillow Talk: 5 stars!

The CD is incredible. It captures the mood of that particular time period when funk and R&B began to fuse.
