4.0 out of 5 stars Bake with the Best!, June 4, 2006
Paging through this cookbook is always a bit of an adventure and promises to yield a delicious dish for just about every occasion. Whether you are looking for a dessert (some of the best recipes in this book are for desserts) or for a main dish, there is something for everyone in this book.

Some of my family's favorites include Creamy Broccoli and Rice Soup, Savory Crescent Chicken Squares, and Ramen Vegetable Beef Stir-Fry. Our favorite goodies include Caramel-Filled Chocolate Cookies, Pecan Pie Surprise Bars, Raspberry Filled White Chocolate Bars, Caramel Apple Cake, Peanut Butter Crunch Cake, and Cookie Cheesecake Squares.

I have used this cookbook on many occasions and although I love the recipes, I wish that the book was in a binder instead of a hardcover book. Also, I tend to like cookbooks with more pictures, but I felt that the stories that were included about many of the winners was an excellent addition to this book. Overall, I highly enjoy trying many of these recipes and I feel it is an excellent addition to any cookbook collection.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite cookbook, May 15, 2007
Our family likes to try new recipes often and this cookbook is my favorite for several reasons. There are lots of color pictures throughout the book. Every recipe I've tried has clear instructions and the food turned out the way it was suppose to each time. And the introduction explains that all the recipes in this book have all been tested in the pillsbury test kitchens and were good enough to compete in the Bake-off contest which gives me some confidence to spend the money on ingredients and try them out. Some of my family's favorites so far are Thai Curry Chicken and Vegetables, Sherried Mushroom Bisque, Chicken-Chile Stromboli, Cheddar Thyme Casserole Bread (Don't over heat the buttermilk), Smoked Turkey Quesadillas, and White Chocolate Raspberry Torte.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mouthwatering, May 28, 2009
This review is from: Pillsbury Best of the Bake-Off Cookbook: Recipes from America's Favorite Cooking Contest (Hardcover)
This is possibly the best cookbook I have ever seen. My mouth waters every time I turn the page. The ingredients aren't too extravagant and you really get a lot of recipes in this book. It is a must have for anyone who likes to cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Cookbook I Have Ever Bought, January 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pillsbury Best of the Bake-Off Cookbook: Recipes from America's Favorite Cooking Contest (Hardcover)
I purchased this cookbook for my daughter who is just beginning to cook. This is an excellent cookbook with all the best recipes from the Bake-Off from 1949 until now. The recipes include appetizers, entrees, and desserts and are easy enough for even the beginning cook to understand. There are short paragraphs about the winners, beautiful full page photographs and interesting tidbits about the Bake-Off history. We have tried a few of the recipes, and they are delicious. My daughter is constantly asking if she can cook dinner for us and is anxious to try them all. This is the best cookbook I have ever purchased, and after cooking for over 25 years, I have bought quite a few. This cookbook can be bought for beginning cooks to experienced cooks, and it will be one they all will enjoy.

If you're a cookbook junky like me, you'll enjoy this one - and you'll be amazed at what has won big dough in the past (really, marshmallows in a crescent roll?) Fun to read for background stories and fun to try some of the winners as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars a big book of yeast bread baking inspiration, May 25, 2009
By
This review is from: Pillsbury Best of the Bake-Off Cookbook: Recipes from America's Favorite Cooking Contest (Hardcover)
I gave this only 4 stars, because it is basically a corporate tome of selling the use of a proprietory product-refrigerated pillsbury yeast doughs. I received this book as part of a deal when joining a cookbook club. I have moved 3 times in the last two years of necessity, and had to let go many of my beloved books, this being one of them. But let me tell you why I plan to pay full price for the book to replace it. This book would be great for someone who has basic recipes for several kinds of yeast dough- not just coffee cake, but needs new ideas to use them. This book describes dozens of ways to guild the lily, without having to research an armful of cookbooks. I bought several coffee table cookbooks several years ago from one specific publisher, but don't feel they gave the value that this one book will do for someone who loves the results of baking, but doesn't have time to "start in the basement." I'm not a pillsbury flour user, and never will be. But these ideas and methods to reinvent the wheel are wonderful for yeast dough made with ANY brand of flour.
