I have an original California Jelly Blade that I bought from Amazon. I was surprised I couldn't reorder, so looked around and started reading the reviews. I bought a Pilot Automotive CC-2010 and really didn't like it. The handle was too hard and the blade felt short. Frustrated, I tracked down the website that seemed to be for the manufacturer and wrote the following email:

"Hi Don,
I'm one of many who came to greatly appreciate the original California Jelly Blade, and am looking for a replacement. Every review comparing "Superflex" with the original says it is too flexible. The Pilot ultraflex is no longer available if it ever was. The "Soft-N-Dry" doesn't work well and the handle is too hard for the shower. (I bought one.) The California Car Duster Jelly blade is clearly avoiding the original patents and isn't a "t-bar" blade. Your website has a "gel" version that doesn't appear to be for sale anywhere.
My questions:
1) Which one is closest to the original original?
2) Where can I buy it?
3) Why not make one to those specs again?
Thanks!
Larry"

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Don is the inventor. Here is his reply:

"Larry, I quite frankly can't understand people not liking the Superflex that is what i prefer and I designed them all, I have all of them in my garage and I'll grab the Superflex every time. The Gel blade was turned down because of cost, I designed that model as well, however I still prefer the Superflex. Feel free to call if you have questions!! Don"

So I bought a Superflex and it is good, but not quite as good as the original. The handle is right. The length is right. Whew. However, it really is, as some suggested, too flexible.

Bought with high hopes or replacing an original purple handed California Water Blade that is over 10 years old. The Pilot Automotive CC-2011 12" is softer then the original California blade and while that may be good for not scratching car finishes it does not remove water as well. In fact the old blade still out performs the new blade in that it only takes one swipe to remove the water unlike the new blade that takes two or three swipes to remove water.

Having used and liked Costco's purple handled California water blade for 10 years, I was looking for a replacement for the shower. This item is listed as super flexible - they aren't kidding. I didn't like it for flat walls, since it's too flexible to keep completely flat against the wall (or window). However, it rocks for drying the car. Makes following the curved surfaces a breeze, whereas the Costco wiper was a major failure for vehicles. So I'm using it for the car instead of shower/windows. If looking for flat surface wiping, look for something else. For a car, it is excellent!

I purchased the Pilot water blade after unsuccessfully trying to get my hands on the California Water Blade (a market place seller gave me a generic California "Dry" Blade...). The "Dry" blade squeaked with every stroke, and nearly gave me a stroke for fear of scratching my new car. So as a replacement, I found the Pilot water blade and it has been working for me ever since. The quality seems very high and the handle is made of a bendable material that can conform to the curves of the car. I don't have the issue of squeaking noises as the other reviewers had. The only time the blade squeaks is when there isn't enough water underneath the blade , but after a few washes you learn how to use the blade pretty effectively.

This has cut down the time it takes to wash my car immensely! After the blade gets about 80-90% of the water off my car, I use the absorber for the other 10-20%. It is a great combo and one that I would highly recommend (the absorber doesn't leave streaks and pieces of lint like microfiber cloths do).

I can't compare this to the original California Water Blade, but am interested to know how they stack up against each other.

I was shopping at a local large retailer earlier today for some things needed to make my car look good and for some tools.

This product caught my eye as I remembered how long it takes to dry my car and with how many towels.

I bought a 15-pack of microfiber towels (they are great in the kitchen and were in the colors I liked) and this blade and headed to my local self-service carwash.

I dried my entire car with one small towel. And I do mean small. Seriously. I could barely squeeze water out of that towel and it got mildly wet only because I used it on my convertible roof briefly.

It is very likely you won't need to use a towel if you have this product. I even used it on my convertible roof to get some water out of it. Prior to using this water blade, my car was dripping wet from being soaked for about 8 minutes.

I plan to give some of them as gifts. It's really a great product. No wonder SEMA show consistently gives it more awards. Absolutely a 5-star product.

I use this blade after I wash my car to remove most of the water. I then use a Meguiar's X2000 Water Magnet Drying Towel to take the rest off. Not only does it leave the car spot-free, but it is quick; much faster then before when I used multiple towels.

I also use it in the mornings to wipe off all the dew on the windows of my car. Take a few moments, and I don't have to deal with not being able to see out of my windows early in the morning.

It IS a bit soft, as others have stated, but I LIKE that part! It makes it very easy to conform to the shape of the car. It does "skid" occasionally, but I have found that I have gotten better with it as I use it more.

This one is a great addition to my car care supplies.
