1.0 out of 5 stars Not a well thought out product
Just got these for my 2007 Passat w/16" OEM steelies. A couple of big problems to be aware of -- the spring retaining ring that keep them in place doesn't have a little jog to route around my valve stem so the fitment is bad - one of them popped off after about a mile (fortunately I was able to cruise back and get it). The other aftermarket rims I have did do route around the valve stem and fit just fine - it's not rocket science.

Secondly, the retaining ring is not painted back, but is metallic in color, so stands out like a sore thumb against my black steelies.

Generally, the manufacturer did not invest any IQ points at all in the design of this product. Finally, although they look flat in shape in the pics provided, they actually bulge out quite a bit, which is a different look that is apparent from the provided pics. It is a shame, as otherwise they would've looked pretty cool and reasonably well finished from a plastic forming and painting standpoint. My advice, avoid these if possible, but at least double check they properly fit your oem steelies - it's not clear from the provided info -- they say they fit "most" 16" wheels on the box.

Ok: quick update a few weeks later after I found time to work on it. I was finally able to tweak these by painting the retaining rings black with Krylon spray paint so they don't look awful bright metallic, and very gingerly (and with a lot of frustration) pushing the retaining ring round the valve stem. I must say the actually look pretty good (definitely project an "attitude" like bare black steelies, but a bit nicer on the eyes) and are staying put.

If you do happen to break the flimsy plastic retaining ring mounts on these when trying to get them on, don't count on Pilot sending you a replacement - they were rude. Amazon, on the hand, gladly swapped for a new set, so make sure you keep the box until you are sure you are happy with them.

Morale of the story, definitely fit check them before chucking the box out, and be very careful the first time you put them on and adjust the retaining ring (it has 3 positions depending on wheel size). It is very easy to snap the plastic retaining ring mounts. Also you may need to paint the retaining. Unfortunately, if you want black wheel covers, these are pretty much the only game in town.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice change, August 11, 2010

Works good for my Civic. The fit is good so far, have not had them long enough to see how well they hold on. As with the previous posts, they look good on my Civic. The metal retainer is silver, but can not be seen. I beleive it depends on the design of the wheel on how well they look. Would reccomend for a replacement of original wheel covers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall they are nice, but a minor design flaw keeps them from being 5 stars, December 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought these to go on the steel 16" wheels of 2007 VW Passat that I use for winter. The covers look nice on the vehicle, but the retaining ring is not curved to go around the valve stem. Because of this, it can be difficult to securely mount them without breaking one of the plastic clips that holds the retaining ring.

However, they do fit the Passat's factory rim if you take your time and work with them. Once I got them on, they seemed secure. I am not worried about them falling off.

Also, the picture does not show that the center of the cover sticks out approximately 1-2 inches. They are not flat like I was expecting. Regardless, they still look good.

I didn't go to any brick-and-mortar stores so I am not sure what selection they would have, but these are sort of the only choice if you are looking for black wheel covers. I would buy them again.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK, November 25, 2011

Great to finally find an all-black cover. I didn't need to have the fake chrome lugs. I'd rather it stay all-black. The fit is not perfect all around as I see some gaps w/the wheel rim.

2.0 out of 5 stars great!...at first, October 24, 2011

looked fantastic when I first installed them. fit is great. sharp looking. until after about 2 weeks, at which point the little silver finished plastic nuts started falling off. I have a grand total of 8 left for all 4 wheel covers. My car may just look even more ghetto now then without them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the money!, September 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've had two sets of these now (i lost one, my fault, bent a rim! ) and i liked them enough to purchase the second set. They can really add a rad look to your car without spending hundreds of dollars on new rims. In fact, most people have assumed i have rims, i even had a friend ask if i was selling my old rims. I have the retainer set toward the inside all the way around (for larger rims) and they fit nice + tight. They aren't perfect, prob stick out a 1/3 to 1/4" or so but they are flat and don't have the goofy rounded shape some wheel covers do. The only issue i've had is that the fake chrome bolts will get blown off at the car wash. I lost about 5 of them on the original set i had. If you pull them off with pliers (they come off easily) then reglue them it fixes the issue. I'm happy now having a few extras from my old set, even have one for my full size spare! If you don't want to spend big money on rims or want something to use before you can afford them, i'd definitely recommend these, best covers i've found and can't go wrong for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, could be better..., July 9, 2011
By
I didn't want just steel wheels...but I want an aftermarket wheel look without actually buying new wheels. This is the perfect solution. The wheel covers looks awesome on. Only negatives I have to say is that the wheels went on too easy with minimal force. The design can be better...I didn't know that there are three different steel wheel size (the tension ring can be adjusted, just use the smallest setting.) The tension ring is visible when standing near the car when the wheel covers are installed. Overall it's a good product.

They are supposed tobe a universal fit. I put them on 3 weeks ago when they came. Poorly constructed. And i lost a cap on the road somewhere. I'm now out 35$.
