The lines between good and bad are not always so clear cut as we would like to think and this show makes that clear.

This was fantastic, especially since I went in with no expectations. From the opening credits to the final scene, I was completely hooked and entertained. This may be Ron Perlman's best role yet. I was also happy to see a favorite from The Wire, Andre Royo, as the mayor. However, the character I was most impressed with was Dana Delaney's wife of Judge Harris. She's a strong, impressive female character who is a great counterpart to Judge Harris. At least from first impressions, she's not a Carmela Soprano or Gemma who ignores what her husband is up to and might be the only one to call "bulls***" on the choices he's making. Other strong performances include Garret Dillahunt, who plays a leader of a small bible study group who has a shady past and is at first someone who seems untrustworthy. Also impressive is Alona Tal, who gives a powerful, emotional performance as Harris' daughter-in-law.

I think what I liked best about the episode was the pacing and unexpected direction it went. I was expecting and dreading for the first episode to give away too many answers. Thankfully, it did not. The final scene is very well-deserved.

I hope this gets picked up to series, because I would love to see what happens next.

Someone else wrote "Disturbing and thought provoking" which I find very to the point. Unique characters which are brilliantly portrayed by the actors, especially Dana Delany and Ron Perlman. Sex, drugs, corruption, crime & religion make for an explosive mix. So morally f*@#ed up you just want to see more!
Hope Amazon orders a full season!

Perhaps the most thought provoking series since Breaking Bad. In an era in which people more and more are manipulated by those who use religion for their own selfish needs this series plays in that gray area. Perlman is giving the performance of his career. Dillahunt returns to serious drama with a powerful punch (if Perlman's Harris is Walter White, Dillahunt's KD is Pinkman). Reverend Curtis has the makings of one of the great villains (he's the unholy coupling of Elmer Gantry, Jerry Lundegaard and Boyd Crowder). The final moment twist takes this psychological drama into possibly the heightened insanity of Twin Peaks and True Detective.

I have yet to be drawn to a Amazon series until now this can be the breakout series which has the quality to rival HBO, FX and Showtime in terms of the perfect balance of serious drama, pulpiness and a vivid protagonist.

Brilliant pilot! It had me hooked from the first scene. I love the complexity of each of the main characters and the intensity of the storyline. Dana Delany and Ron Perlman both turn in wonderful performances. I hope we get to see more of this.

This is an intriguing, well thought out, extremely well written and well produced show. Obviously a lot of money went into the production of this pilot, and it shows. It's meant to be a blockbuster, and it is. This is a show to rival the best that HBO can produce. I would recommend it to everyone I know. Of course I love Ron Pearlman and watch everything he's in, he does a wonderful job in this production. He's so convincing as the protagonist who leaves you wondering who does he really serve, good or evil? The supporting cast is amazing, these are people we have watched in so many other productions from Law and Order to Deadwood and others, and they do such a natural job of fitting in here to fill the roles that they've taken on. Watching this is like watching a feature film, you just want it to go on and on. Don't leave us hanging Amazon, continue this one on for the 2014 season.
