The Invention of Dr. Grip Writing Instruments

Based on a common need for a more comfortable writing instrument, Pilot set out to give people the writing solution they were looking for. In 1995, Pilot launched Dr. Grip, a pen and mechanical pencil collection designed to provide superior writing comfort and be the solution to that demand. By 1996, the entire Dr. Grip line earned the Ease-of-Use Commendation by the Arthritis Foundation. More recently in 2012, a three-month study conducted by the Georgia Tech Research Institute found Dr. Grip Center of Gravity (COG) surpassed key competitors in overall comfort ratings for users both with and without arthritis. In the study, Dr. Grip COG was proven to be almost 2X more comfortable than key competitor brands*.

Dr. Grip is Offered in an Array of Point Types and Barrel Colors

Dr. Grip's classic line has been enhanced over the years with the introduction of a wide variety of barrel colors and styles. The collection includes both fashion-forward and professional styles for a variety of writing needs and occasions. Dr. Grip is available in barrel colors that range from fun neon colors, to sophisticated metallic hues, to professional blue, black, and silver. In addition, Dr. Grip is offered in a variety of point types including Medium 1.0 mm ball point ink, Fine 0.7 mm gel ink, and #2 HB mechanical pencil lead. Every Dr. Grip pen and mechanical pencil is retractable and refillable for continued use and lasting value.

Introducing the Dr. Grip 4+1 Multi-function Writing Instrument

The newest addition to the Dr. Grip Collection is a writing instrument that serves as both pen and pencil. In fact, the Dr. Grip 4+1 is 5 different writing options in one! Designed for getting complex jobs done with incredible precision, the Dr. Grip 4+1 has retractable Black, Blue, Red and Green advanced ink, as well as Mechanical Pencil lead. Dr. Grip 4+1 is perfect for anyone who needs--or just simply enjoys--different writing options for editing, organizing, and more. Dr. Grip is the ultimate all-in-one writing instrument.

This pen is one of my favorite things! I LOVE it! Great for those who write a lot, or for someone who may have trouble with getting a good comfortable grip on slimmer styled pens. The barrel/body of the pen is a good size, and larger than, say, a regular ball point pen. I think the look of the pen is very stylish and I like the colors it comes in. I enjoy using this pen!

This pen is reasonably priced and refills are easy to find. I used to prefer ball point pens, and avoid 'gel' pens because the gel pens would 'skip' while you're writing or the ink would just stop. -Not so with this pen! -It rolls right along smoothly. Great gift! I've seen other people who have this pen say that they love it too.

One of my sisters-in-law recommended Dr. Grip to me about ten years ago when I told her about my carpal tunnel syndrome. This pen is neither too fat nor too skinny, which makes it great for writing book chapters in longhand. I own both the ball-point and the gel pen versions, and they work great.

What I like best about the gel pen is the quality of the ink. It doesn't skip while I'm writing, which has been a huge frustration with other gel pens. I also like the fact that I can find refills for these pens easily, both online and off, and at a reasonable price.

While I served in the military, physicians determined that I had arthritis. Since it only bothered my major joints, such as my knees, and since the prescribed treatments relieved the symptoms, I really paid little attention to the condition. Unfortunately, after I retired from the military the arthritis settled into my fingers.

For me, the most irritating problem with arthritis in my hands is with my writing. I had used ballpoint pens comfortably and with ease. Now, with my grip I am unable to control the pen, and my penmanship which was always sloppy became unreadable, even to me.

Pilot Dr. Grip is a wonderful solution. First the barrel is fatter so I do not lose the pen. Second, the barrel has a non slip surface which keeps the pen in my control. Since the barrel is larger it is much more comfortable than other pens I have tried.

I highly recommend the Pilot Dr. Grip.

As all of my books are first written in long hand, I've tried countless pens looking for the perfect one that will actually help me with super smooth fast writing, and supreme comfort. This is the best pen, and my absolute favorite one for writing.

The key is the grip. I write for many hours non-stop, and the grip on this one has produced far less pain in my hand. The flow of the gel ink is excellent. I have to write very quickly, and this gel ink makes that not only possible, but a lot easier.

I have to stock up on this one, and while I don't like to spend a lot of money on a pen, with this one it's an exception. It takes the stress off of my hand, and for that it's worth the price.

Also, the ink seems to last forever. I'd suggest this pen for anyone who does a lot of writing!

I used to work in a pen store that sold some high end pens including Mont Blancs. Of course this is no 500 dollar pen, but it writes like a 50-70 dollar pen. I have actually purchased a few of these pens for some friends. Great for taking notes or even fine for signing. Very minimal smearing and the ink is very pronounced (doesn't fade away after use).

I'm left-handed, and as most lefties know, smudging is a very annoying problem. With regular ballpoint pens, the smudging was getting so bad to the point that my notes were becoming illegible. One of my professors suggested a fine-tip rolling ballpoint pen or a gel-ink pen. This was the last of its kind in stock in my college's bookstore. That alone says something. I put it to use right after I bought it, and WOW! No smudging AT ALL! It's also really comfortably to hold and writes smoothly. I don't think I'll being using any other pen from now on.

There are not enough words to describe how and why this pen is so AWESOME! I'm a nurse and work 13 hour shifts (75% writing). My hand NEVER cramps. My fingers don't get sore. The ink shows up and photocopies well. You can differentiate your writing from other charting easily for data lookup. (The ONLY thing you cannot do, is write on labels with them, it smears). It comes in awesome colors. My co-workers are always "lifting" them from my pockets and using them to chart. I cannot lay it down and walk away or I come back and it is missing never to be returned. I have turned my co-workers into "groupies" over this pen. I dare not loan it to physicians for a "quick note" or they quickly run away with hit as well. My local store has apparently had quite a theft problem with these pens and they are under lock and key now. I have them everywhere (in my pocket, purse, attached to my calendar, journal, locker at work, my husband even began taking them from me to use at HIS place of employment. Even the pink ones. HIS co-workers are now pen junkies). Don't forget lots of refills. You will NEVER use another pen.

Pros
+ G2 refill compatible
+ grip is extremely comfortable and the wide grip means ease of tiredness on wrist and fingers when writing for extended periods of time
+ cheap in price
+ gel means it flows very well with little effort and the ink is dark

Cons
- Personal perference, but I wish these pens were a bit more on the heavy side, I like to have heavier pens as it reduces the amount of effort to push on the page to get the ink to flow.
