Book Description

2005
As much as this is Edgar Allen's experience as a World War II bomber pilot, it is every veteran's story. Ed takes us behind the scenes for a close-up view of Army Air Force training when the war effort was at its peak. He gives us a feeling for the conditions in Britain when resources were scarce. And he makes us feel the fear from attack in flying bombing missions over enemy territory. Ed tells it all. With true modesty he describes what it took to survive: courage, a cool head, and a copious amount of good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars The critical importance of courage and keeping one's cool, November 9, 2002
This review is from: Pilot from the Prairie (Paperback)
Pilot From The Prairie is the personal memoir of Edgar Allen, a World War II bomber pilot. Edgar memorably relates the danger and horror of war, and the critical importance of courage and keeping one's cool to survive in the midst of dangerously lethal situations. A raw and vivid account that pulls no punches and makes the reader feel what it was really like to survive the thick of devastating war, Pilot From The Prairie is a welcome and highly recommended contribution to the growing library of World War II autobiographical accounts -- which is all the more appreciated as that generation of men and women leaves us through the inevitable passage of the years.
