As my title said, simply writing didn't do justice for this pen. The rolling ball guarantees no stickiness, the ink being luciously gel-like and practically being one with the paper, it is so smooth and slick.
Even better is that I have never had this kind of pen leak or run, emphasizing what a high-quality tool it is. And a personal thing I find attractive is that the ink is pitch black, no faint hues whatsoever. That's just me, of course.
For artists out there, this is a good idea for drawing (reasons above and) because it has a wonderfully rounded tip, so you never need to worry about the point bending or breaking. And you still get a fine line!
Whether you are a writer, artist, or both, this is the pen I would suggest for anyone. It's a dream in a writing utensil, simply put.
The girth is similar to that of your standard BIC stick pen, but is smooth (i.e. no ridges, notches, latex, etc.) and there is a good distance from the grip to the nib. I personally didn't enjoy writing with this pen for extended periods because it was difficult to find a comfortable writing position, however, jotting quick notes and such was fine.
This pen lays down a buttery smooth deep black line. That said, it's unforgiving on generic/cheap office or notebook paper, and won't hesitate to cop an attitude when it comes to finer writing papers (such as Rhodia vellum, which is designed for use with fountain pens). By that I mean this ink feathers and bleeds.
On the cheap papers it bleeds like a hemophiliac, whereas on the premium papers it bleeds only as if it just scraped its knee (trickles and dots here and there). Plus, on the premium quality papers, it will require a few seconds to dry. That means lefties need to be careful.
And finally, while I would use this to sign checks or important documents, I wouldn't do so with the utmost confidence considering that it feathers with both water and alcohol (see comment for link to a writing sample image).
This is a checkmark in its favour because this pen will last a while. For a liquid ink pen, I assumed it would be dead in under 20 pages, but was pleasantly surprised you can get 30-40 pages from a single barrel. (Writing top to bottom on college ruled paper.Read more ›
I still keep my eye out and try new pens every so often, but I keep coming back to the Pilot Precise V5 Extra Fine Point.
I've used red ones every day work for almost 2 years, and blue ones for over 3. I have everyone I work with hooked on them.
They write smoothly, and easily (important for me - I have carpal tunnel syndrome), and the smaller barrel is a great factor.
They will write on almost any kind of paper, even tissue-thin self-carboning paper.
They rarely skip, and won't clog or dry out, even if you leave the cap off all day.
I prefer the V7 to the V5, but the V7 doesn't come in all the same colors, so I have both.
I use up at least 1 V7 red pen every 4 weeks or so. The colors stay bright even 4 weeks after I write on something.
