The Pilot V5's are the best pen out on the market. They write very smoothly without any effort. This multi pack gives you many colors to enjoy and are great for grading/correcting any papers. They are also great for any kind of doodling. These are my pens of choice and they come to you highly recommended.

I bought these pens hoping that the thin point would be compatible with my vintage Spirograph and they worked perfectly. (Ball point pen tips had a narrower profile in the late 60's when the toy was invented, not all modern pens will fit through the holes.) I was worried that the liquid ink might smudge, but it wasn't a problem. Excellent pens.

Depending on the pen's intended purpose--writing general notes and memos, quick sketching, inking final art projects, addressing mail, or lettering invitations, etc.--satisfaction can vary widely. So, I'll look at this pen from various angles: comfort, ink quality, longevity, and nib sizing.

COMFORT:
The girth is similar to that of your standard BIC stick pen, but is smooth (i.e. no ridges, notches, latex, etc.) and there is a good distance from the grip to the nib. I personally didn't enjoy writing with this pen for extended periods because it was difficult to find a comfortable writing position, however, jotting quick notes and such was fine.

INK QUALITY:
This pen lays down a buttery smooth deep black line. That said, it's unforgiving on generic/cheap office or notebook paper, and won't hesitate to cop an attitude when it comes to finer writing papers (such as Rhodia vellum, which is designed for use with fountain pens). By that I mean this ink feathers and bleeds.

On the cheap papers it bleeds like a hemophiliac, whereas on the premium papers it bleeds only as if it just scraped its knee (trickles and dots here and there). Plus, on the premium quality papers, it will require a few seconds to dry. That means lefties need to be careful.

And finally, while I would use this to sign checks or important documents, I wouldn't do so with the utmost confidence considering that it feathers with both water and alcohol (see comment for link to a writing sample image).

LONGEVITY:
This is a checkmark in its favour because this pen will last a while. For a liquid ink pen, I assumed it would be dead in under 20 pages, but was pleasantly surprised you can get 30-40 pages from a single barrel. (Writing top to bottom on college ruled paper.

I LOVE these pens.

I've used red ones every day work for almost 2 years, and blue ones for over 3. I have everyone I work with hooked on them.

They write smoothly, and easily (important for me - I have carpal tunnel syndrome), and the smaller barrel is a great factor.

They will write on almost any kind of paper, even tissue-thin self-carboning paper.

They rarely skip, and won't clog or dry out, even if you leave the cap off all day.

I prefer the V7 to the V5, but the V7 doesn't come in all the same colors, so I have both.

I use up at least 1 V7 red pen every 4 weeks or so. The colors stay bright even 4 weeks after I write on something.

I am a "pen-aholic." I've purchased many packs of pens for the pretty ink colors and have been disappointed by many. However, these are quite honestly the best pens I've ever used in my life. With terrible handwriting and a need to write very fast (in med school), these pens provide extremely smooth, fluid writing with constant use. The pens write very boldly, but the extra fine tip allows for great precision. The only flaw of these pens (which cannot be helped) is their high tendency to bleed through the paper. Therefore, I only write on one side of the paper. Definitely worth it though! They are especially useful in drawing out complex diagrams whose elements need color differentiation.

I have been testing a variety of blue roller ball pens for over a decade and have more or less settled on the Precise V5 Extra Fine. They are generally available at in 5, 7 or 12-packs at places like Staples or here on Amazon. The dozen-pack I have only seen on Staples website, however.

I rate this pen a 4 instead of a 5 because I discovered that one of the pens in my 5-pack was defective. It was leaking either from the base or the barrel - I am uncertain. In order to prevent further staining, I simply tossed it out and never definitively discovered the source of the leak or the point of damage.

Overall, however, it is a good pen with a decent price tag relative to its competitors, and is one of the few that is available in all-blue packs, in addition to all-black packs.

I'm a pen person, and these are my favorites. I carry several different colors in my purse at all times. The very fine point really works for any situation, even filling out tiny forms at the Social Security Administration. I love also that you can see how much ink is left. People who borrow these pens ask me all the time where I got them. There is one drawback, though. In the past 6 or 7 years that I've been using these pens, about 3 or 4 of them have burst, and it's messy. Also, just last week, I was working from home with the computer set up on the bed, and a pen fell onto the comforter with the point digging into the comforter. It was there for probably about 30 minutes until I realized it, and it did leaver about a 1/2-inch blot on the comforter. Again, if you don't do idiotic things like that, these are great.
