I purchase these by the box, although it takes several years to go through that many pens. I use both the red and black versions in my work.

I prefer the V7 to the thinner tip of the V5; the V7 produces a bold line, and I think that the V5 is a bit TOO precise (the written line is too thin), and a bit scratchy to my ears as well.

These pens flow very easily and are comfortable to hold. The ink goes on very thick, but does not run; it looks great on the page. The design is simple and classic.

Amazon generally has a better price than the local office stores, but do your comparison shopping.

The only warning I have is that once you try this pen you may not be able to like any other!

The V7 pens are the best. The ink comes out smoothly and evenly. The V7 is superior to the V5 which has a finer tip. Particularly, these pens are good for irregular surfaces and for use along with a highlighter, as you can write on top of recently highlighted text and still make a nice solid line. Also, these pens are cheaper than many other liquid ink pens now available. Lastly, having a real cap is nicer than it being a retractable tip. There is an increased risk of leaks with liquid ink pens, and the cap lowers the chances of any leaks onto your shirt if keeping the pen in your front pocket.

Best pen ever. I'm a lefty and this is not only the smoothest pen I've ever used but the one that smears the least (pretty much not at all). As others note, the V5, in my opinion, is inferior and too scratchy.

I've also used the V7 retractable and they're also excellent pens, about 80% as good as the V7 traditional.

I shudder to think of these being discontinued...best pen ever.

I can only guess this pack of pens had been sitting around somewhere for a long, long time. I've used this brand/style/size pen for lots of years and I have a really good sense for how long each one usually lasts. Unfortunately, these started writing badly (mid note-taking in class) after about the third use -- a couple wrote badly from the beginning. If I'd been less busy, or it were a more expensive purchase, or I'd realized sooner how bad they all were... I would have tried to return them.

the action with this pen is smooth and consistent, absolutely no skipping. You don't need to put any amount of pressure to get a good solid line, so you won't be carving up paper the way you might with a ballpoint. Even if you press real hard, the tip doesn't scratch the paper, which is a problem i've had with other pens when i get really engaged in what i'm writing about. This pen is a joy to use and it makes my work less mundane. The ink is vibrant and not shiny so it's easy to read. Since I write mostly in margins and around existing print, combined with some rough technical sketching, i think a finer point might be better suited for my needs, but this pen is wonderful. I will try the V5 next time. All in all, it was completely worth using my own money to get these pens instead of suffering with what my employer provides.

Have used this pen for years. Very smooth, easy ink flow so no interference with writing stroke. You can also see how much ink is remaining through clear plastic window. Only problem I ever have is if I take the pen on airplane flight -- ink accumulates in the cap & it is a mess. I am sure there is some work around for this, but have not found it. Oh, almost forgot, I ordered in quantity to get a good price. OfficeMax does not even sell them by the dozen so it is too pricey unless you get a great discount.

The Pilot Precise series of pens have been extremely popular for many years and with good reason. They write smoothly & with almost no pressure needed. Because you can write with such a light touch, the lack of a rubber grip typically does not seem to be an issue and they are comfortable to use over long periods.

While the needle tip makes them stand out from other pens, it is this feature that actually caused me to stop using them. Unlike standard ballpoint or gel roller tips which are very difficult to break, the needle tip can bend or snap causing ink to leak. The back of the box even has a warning that changes in air pressure can cause leaks. Issues are rather rare, but if these do become your go to pens - you will probably run into one of these problems at some point.

The reason the V7 earns 4 stars because it smears noticeably more than the V5 (Extra Fine). The V7 feels slightly more smooth to write with, but because it lays down more ink, it smears more and it leaves dots of ink and the end of letters, or slowly drawn lines. Keep in mind that pens with a more fine tip feel scratchier to write with. If you want your pen to truly glide, choose an even larger tip - like the Pilot Precise Grip Bold. Just remember that the extra ink takes longer to dry and can muddy your handwriting if the ink spreads/bleeds on cheaper paper..

PROS:
- Clear window allows you to see when the pen is running low on ink
- Feels smoother to write with versus the Pilot Precise V5 (Extra Fine)
- Does not require much pressure to write with.
