Product Description

Size: 12 Pens/12 Cartridges | Color: Black/Blue

The Pilot Plumix Fountain Pen provides elegant writing with consistent ink flow across the page. A durable, wide barrel emphasizes precision and is clear to easily show the ink level inside. Each refillable fountain pen nib tip provides soft, smooth lines that won't smear or smudge documents. The Plumix is a fountain pen specially created for beautiful writing. These pens are popular among fountain pen users for their clear body (easy visibility of ink), interesting design and smooth writing nib. It conveniently refills with standard Pilot ink refill cartridges. This purchase includes 12 pens, each with one blue ink cartridge. The Pilot Plumix is a fountain pen which you will love as much for its writing quality as its tapered design.

This is a good, cheap pen for beginners.

I'm not sure if I just got a defective unit or if this is a problem with the entire model(update: see below) but the pen does not exactly feel well made.
John Walthall
The nib thickness is similar to that of a fine nib of a calligraphy pen.

I really like Pilot's Plumix refillable fountain pen. The pen feels great in the hand, it has good ink flow and writes smoothly across the page with no scratch.

The package has no size details on the nib. However, the nib looks like and writes like a 0.7 nib (medium/average).

My only complaint with the pen is the ink color. Package says that ink is blue, but it is a *very* light blue - I don't care for the light blue ink and would prefer a darker, more navy blue ink. I will update this review after I order replacement cartridges with information on how the color varies on Pilot's blue/black ink versus its blue ink. - I am not a fan of black ink.

Overall this is a great starter fountain pen and a great deal at this price point due to its refillable option. Highly Recommended!

***Update 9/15/12***

I ordered Pilot Namiki Ink Refill Blue/Black 12Pk and can report that the blue/black shade of blue matches the navy blue ink from the Pilot Varsity pen in the video - ink cartridges are more reasonably priced on jetpens and other sites than here.

The Plumix is a true fountain pen at a reasonable price. It fills with Pilot's ink cartridges, which are their own design. You should know that most of the Pilot ink cartridges are the same size. The different model numbers on the cartridges refer to different colors. Make sure you get the "standard" Pilot cartridges for fountain pens and you should be good to go.

Pilot offers some specialized cartridges for their calligraphy pen line. Those look like they would fit too, but I don't know whether the calligraphy ink would flow through this pen as it should.

There are converters available to allow you to fill Pilot pens from ink bottles. I tried one in a Plumix and it fit, so it should work. However, if you insist on refilling this pen with bottled ink, I would suggest simply pulling the empty cartridge from the pen, refilling it slowly with an eyedropper, and replacing it in the pen. I have done that and it works fine. The Pilot cartridge has a plastic disc to seal it which gets pushed into the body of the cartridge when you install it in the pen; I got some tweezers and pulled the punched-in disc out of the empty ink cartridge first, to make it easier to refill.

The nib on this pen is unusual. It is a sort of an italic style rather than conventional style. That is to say the point ends in a tiny rectangle of steel rather than a rounded ball shape, so that lines drawn in different directions will be different widths. It makes the point a bit scratchy, at least at first; perhaps it will smooth a bit as it wears. (Fountain pen points commonly do, but I haven't had this one long enough to know if it will or not.) The effect of the varying width is to make your handwriting look more elegant.

The pen is very lightweight.

This is my second pen of this make and model. The first one I received was defective. The ink would saturate the paper after so many words written as if there was no regulation on the ink flow. I returned it the very next day after my first bad experience just after opening it. I have already received another. I'm not one to place judgement so quickly on only the first use. These are mast produced. So what if I happen to get a defective one on my first purchase of the item? Slam the product a negative review? Not me. I'll give the product a chance. It was under $7.00 shipped! Besides, it's the customer service that prevails in my book on how they choose to handle their product if defective.

So here I sit with a new replacement. All I can say is that I'm well pleased with it. The ink that was supplied was not as black as I prefer. It was more of a dark gray compared to my favorite black.

The feel is light yet the way it writes is consistent. No wider lines on the vertical, all is nice and uniform. The nib is smooth on a few papers I've tried it on and no catching and skipping of the nib.

I read other reviews of plastic pens and the complaint is that they are too light. Well duh! The pen is made of plastic and it cost under $7.00 shipped! I can tell my mind to accept the weight and only look at only the end result - the way the ink is on the paper after all is written.

The ink cartridge is not a common type. This requires you to buy their cartridges. No biggy! I have no problem with that. I can use a syringe and refill the original cartridge with my fave black ink.

Another plus to me is that this fountain pen can be used as an eye-drop filler type. Meaning no cartridge at all.

I am a huge Pilot pen fan, from G2 to Varsity to now this Plumix pen. The pen writes well with good ink flow and because the nib doesn't have the ball at the tip like the Varsity pen so there is more of a calligraphy style to the writing, which I really like for when I write letters or in my journal. Usually not for notes during class, but that's what the other Pilot pens are for.

My one complaint is that in the description it says that the pen comes with a refill. This is misleading because it suggests that the pen already has ink in it. This is not the case. The only ink you have is the ink that is the "refill". Luckily, these ink cartridges last pretty long and replacement ones are relatively cheap.

Overall I am very happy with this pen!
