5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite pen
Of all the varied pens swimming about my cubicle -- we're talking about 2 dozen and that doesn't count the sharpies -- my G2 fine point blacks are my favorite. The ink is nice and dark, it comes out easily, there are no clogs. I don't have to press really hard like some ballpoints require and with the advent of arthritis this really matters to me. 3.0 out of 5 stars There are better options, February 23, 2010
This review is from: Pilot G2 Gel Ink Roller Ball Pens, 2-Pack, Black (31031) (Office Product)
I used to swear this pen was the best but was forced to change my story. This pen has a couple of major failings. Fist the ink takes some time to dry so I am constantly smearing it. Second if you bump the tip at all the ball point gets damaged and leaks everywhere. If the tip is damaged it'll also not roll properly and write intermittently instead of a smooth consistent line. If you are using an edge to make a straight line the gel collects on the tip and will leave a blob on your paper, and also on your edge. Finally, while this pen is not a small fortune it is more expensive then my new favourite alternative the EnerGel from Pentel which is a better solution for the problems I've listed. When you write a letter or anything really, you should not feel the need to clean up like after you've been painting. This pen gets on everything even when you're careful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good pens if you need retractable, September 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pilot G2 Gel Ink Roller Ball Pens, 2-Pack, Black (31031) (Office Product)
I bought these pens because the pilot precise V7 pens were so expensive. I find that they work very well, and they have a very nice rubberized spot at the bottom that enhances holding the pen. I like the way one can tell the amount of ink remaining, it is quite visible. The click mechanism seems strong.

I find that the ink flows well, but not quite as well as the V7, which remains my ultimate standard in a good pen.

Overall, I prefer the V7, but if you like a click-style pen, this one is a good performer.

The pen is functional rather than elegant; this device is appropriate for work-a-day use. If you want an stylish pen I would not opt for this model. It emphasizes functionality rather than style.

These write well and fit your hand nice. I like the mini version of these as well. You wont be disapointed. I keep the full size for office and the mini for mobile applications.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Pens, January 5, 2010

These pens are pretty good pens. I have been using Z-grip from Zebra 1.0mm (ball point) and thought I'd try out the Pilots.

Immediately, I noticed that the Pilot pen event though it has a finer point size (0.7), the ink is much darker and fluid on the paper than the Z-grips.

I've also been using a favorite Parker pen, and the Pilot pens aren't quite to that level. I prefer a 1.0mm bold point, but there's almost a little give or snag when I press down the Pilot pen to the paper and write compared to when I use the nicer Parker pen.

That said, the Pilots are good pens for the price. I probably should have selected the 1.0mm since, but the 0.7mm have helped me see which size I like better. I'll probably go for a larger pack next time.

4.0 out of 5 stars My pen of choice, but it's not perfect, December 17, 2009

Pilot G2 fine point roller ball pens are my pen of choice. I consistently use black, blue, and red colored pensPilot G2 Fine Point Rolling Ball Black Gel Ink Pens, 2-Pack (31031)Pilot G2 Fine Point Rolling Ball Blue Gel Ink Pens, 2-Pack (31032).

Likes:
1) I like the feel of the pen in my hand. The rubber barrel grip is comfortable and allows me to write for extended periods of time.

2) I like the way the ink rolls off of the pen tip, and the ink has a nice look on the paper.

3) There is a sufficient supply of ink to allow a pen to be used for a long time (not as long as your basic Bic pen, but still, long enough).

4) I like the retractable pen tip so I don't have to worry about losing pen caps.

5) This pen is affordable!

6) You can buy replacement ink cartidges so you don't have to toss a pen once its ink runs dry.

Dislikes: (though I very much like this pen, it's not perfect)

1) If you use the pen top draw long lines across a page ink collects at the pen tip and leaves a large blob on the page.

2) If you forget to retract the pen tip and then put the pen in your shirt pocket ink will be wicked out of the pen and leave a large ink stain on your (er...my) shirt (this happened to me).

3) The ink will run if it gets wet.

4) It's nice enough that my wife and kids make off with my pens when I'm not looking :-)

All in all this is an excellent pen, but because of a few drawbacks I can't award it 5 stars. Even so I still prefer it over other pens I've used recently.

Thanks Pilot! Any chance of working out the ink blobbing issue?

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay pens, December 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pilot G2 Gel Ink Roller Ball Pens, 2-Pack, Black (31031) (Office Product)
These pens are okay. Their best aspect is that they don't smudge and the ink looks smooth. However, if you don't angle the pens just right they won't write. I was hoping for a better pen when I bought theses, but you get what you pay for. They are great if you just need a pen to have around for occasional use, but if you rely on pens on a daily basis then you will probably need to get a higher-end pen, that's what I'll be doing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Used to like it, but have moved on, August 15, 2011
This review is from: Pilot G2 Gel Ink Roller Ball Pens, 2-Pack, Black (31031) (Office Product)
Has a nice, smooth ink flow, but takes too long to dry and consequently smears unless one is very mindful during drying time. On a greeting card, this can take 5 or more minutes. More, but if I say 10 minutes you will think I am exaggerating.

Does have nice vibrant thick color and the retractable is nice, but I've moved on to Pilot's P500 which is just beautiful. Every time I pull out a P600 I feel happy to have such a nice pen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gel Pens Baby, April 14, 2011

This review is from: Pilot G2 Gel Ink Roller Ball Pens, 2-Pack, Black (31031) (Office Product)
I like the look of gel pens as opposed to ballpoints and i'm not usually a guy who spends a great deal of worry about the ink content of his pen. But I totally get what some of the reviewers are saying on here. I write a lot of fiction and class notes and the ink in the pen has a tendency to smear a bit and is not as quick drying as I would like, who wants to smudge everything so I have to work carefully and slowly. It's not a problem that can't be worked beyond just more of an annoyance than anything fundamently wrong with the pens.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a great pen, but..., March 21, 2011
This review is from: Pilot G2 Gel Ink Roller Ball Pens, 2-Pack, Black (31031) (Office Product)
I purchased these Pilot G2 pens not long ago for work and as an initial impression I really like the product. These pens have a sleek design with a solid grip near the point of the pen that takes some of the pressure off your hand when you write. These pens do not need to pushed hard to the page to get them to write. When I first opened the package, one quick swipe along a page of paper and it began to work, unlike ball point pens where you have to continuously scribble in the corner. These pens provide a pleasurable writing experience as the ink comes out smooth and the open and close mechanism makes a satisfying click when used.

When I first bought the pens I was looking for something that I could use outside in the winter without having the ink in the pen freeze. These are perfect when I am at work and need to use a pen in the cold. Because these pens use a gel ink they don't need to be kept warm in my hand and I can just click them shut and slide them into my pocket and use it when I need them. The ink looks really smooth and professional on thicker pages of paper as well.

There are some downfalls that I have found with this pen. The ink does not dry as fast as I like and so it does smear every now and again. If one ever intends to use these in the rain- forget about it. I used these pens when it was only a light drizzle outside and the paper I was writing on smeared black and made a horrible mess. I have also noticed that the ink in these pens do not transfer over well on carbon paper. I am not sure if this applies to all gel pens, but I prefer a black ball point pen for carbon paper. On extra thin pieces of paper this might also be a poor choice. The ink is so dark and thick it would bleed through.

Overall, even with its faults, I think I would buy these pens again. They did what I bought them to do and the price was not bad for what I got. As much as I use them they have lasted quite a while. I am satisfied with these pens.
