Pilot holes for lag bolts The manual recommends using a 5mm or 3/16th drill bit for the pilot holes, but the bolts themselves seem like they would need larger holes. Anyone have any recommendations for what bit I should use? Thanks!

I haven't seen the bolts but pilot holes are generally smaller than the bolt. they relieve undue stresses so the stud doesn't crack as well as guide the bolt in a straight direction leaving enough wood for the bolt threads to bite. Hope this helps.

The bolts are probably 5/16" so you would need 5/16" lags. Measure the lags O.D. and use the same diameter drill bits.
