Season 1 of NYPD Blue is one of the top television dramas ever. The complex characters, research and top-notch acting set the stage for the rise of TV drama over the last 20 years. As far a police drams, season 1 of NYPD Blue is surpassed on by HBO's "The Wire." Too bad David Caruso's ego got in the way. John Kelly was a great character, Caruso was a putz for walking off the show in his last take and never coming back.

It was great to discover this 90s classic. NYPD Blue provides that great balance of drama, grit, and character growth. Watching this pilot after the fact of several seasons provides a fascinating look at the early career years of characters such as Sipowitz, Martinez, and Fancy. The writers did a wonderful job providing continuity from season to season. Enjoy!
