I received this set yesterday and I'm already on the second disc. I forgot how much I LOVE THIS SHOW!

The dvd picture and sound quality is excellent, and is far superior to the versions they used to air on cable. Also, these are the uncut, 25 minute versions of each episode. These complete versions of the episodes haven't aired on TV in over 20 years!

It's unfortunate that nobody under 30 has ever heard of this fun show. I hope they release the remaining 8 seasons soon. I'm having a wonderful time watching these shows again- it's like visiting old friends I haven't seen in many years.

ALICE was a truly great comedy show that aired for 9 seasons and starred Linda Lavin, Vic Tayback, Beth Howland, and (the hysterically funny) Polly Holliday. Most of the episodes take place around events at Mel's Diner.

Principle character "Alice Hyatt" works alongside "Mel Sharples" (Vic Tayback), the grouchy, stingy owner and cook of the greasy spoon, and fellow waitresses and friends, sassy man-hungry "Florence Jean 'Flo' Castleberry" (Polly Holliday), and neurotic, scatterbrained "Vera Louise Gorman" (Beth Howland).

Part of the success of the show was the perfect casting and repoire on stage....you really had the feeling that the actors were really enjoying themselves!

And of course, there was the humor! Part of Mel's Diner was often destroyed, such as by Flo's crashing a truck through the front, Mel's chopping down a tree which then landed in the diner, Mel's accidently having the building targeted for demolition and the waitresses' crashing a hot air balloon through the roof! And then, who could forget Mel's food and cooking constantly being criticized by his waitresses and customers alike, especially Henry, who always blamed it for his indigestion, yet continued to eat!!

This is one comedy that can't help but be enjoyed by most people...highly recommended!!

The three disc set (to be released on July 12, 2012) will contain the following episodes:

1. PILOT - Alice is working at Mel's Diner with Flo and Vera when a talent agent comes to town and Alice is hoping for a big break.
2. ALICE GETS A PASS - Alice receives a pass from an ex-football player.
3. A PIECE OF THE ROCK - The beneficiary of het late husband's will pays a visit to Alice.
4. PAY THE FIFTY DOLLARS - Alice is mistakenly arrested for prostitution!
5. A CALL TO ARMS - An obscene phone caller has Alice considering getting a gun.
6. THE LAST REVIEW - A food critic eats at Mel's Diner and die's!
7. SEX EDUCATION - Alice finds a picture of a naked woman in her son's wallet.
8. BIG DADDY DAWSON'S COMING - Flo's new man makes a pass at Alice.
9. GOOD NIGHT, SWEET VERA - Flo and Alice struggle with Vera and her sleeping pills.
10. THE DILEMMA - An old boyfriend of Alice's wants her to marry him.
11. WHO KILLED BUGS BUNNY? - Tommy has a change of heart after a hunting trip.
12. MOTHER-IN-LAW (PART1) - Alice's mother-in-law wants to take up permanent residence in Phoenix.
13. MOTHER-IN-LAW (PART 2) - The conclusion of a two part episode.
14. VERA'S MORTICIAN - Vera's new boyfriend is a mortician, 20 years her senior. But Alice, already creeped out by his profession - suspects that he hasn't told naive Vera everything about his personal life.
15. MEL'S IN LOVE - A young woman from New Jersey has stolen Mel's heart.
16. THE ACCIDENT - Flo totals Mel's car after he entrusts it to the girls while he's away.
17. THE FAILURE - After a botched robbery, the crook thinks he is a failure.
18. THE HEX- A gypsy puts a curse on Mel's Diner.
19. THE PAIN OF NO RETURN - Alice's deceased husband may have never paid his taxes.
20. THE ODD COUPLE - Flo bunks with Alice after her trailer is stolen.
21. A NIGHT TO REMEMBER - Alice and Flo try some matchmakinh with Vera.
22. MEL'S CUP - Mel's trophy is accidently sent to a rummage sale.
23. THE BUNDLE - After a bag of money is found at the diner, Alice is the only one interested in returning it.
24. MEL'S HAPPY BURGER - Mel is making a television commercial with Alice.

Two thumbs up - way up for humor - LOL!!!

Received my dvds today. One of the best comedies in the 70's. An awesome dvd with every episode unedited. I can't wait for season 2. This is a must have!
