Ok. I'll fess up. I'm a political junkie. And a huge John Goodman fan.

And Alpha House feeds that beast.

Very well done - there are layers to this. Watch the staffers. Entire cast plays off of each other - wonderfully. The obsession with the mobile phones. Bill Murray and Colbert cameos.

I did not see that Gary Trudeau (Doonesbury fame) wrote/created this until the end credits. But yay for that.

This show has legs, and I want to see more of it. Highly recommended.

One of the funniest shows I've seen for awhile. Watched the first episode and I'm hooked for the duration. Sometimes "fiction" takes on a reality of its own!!! (If you get my drift.)

Inspired by the real life "Omega House," where four Democratic legislators reside (including U.S. Senator Charles Schumer of New York), "Alpha House" features four Republican senators who share living quarters in Washington, DC. This includes Gil John Biggs (played by John Goodman), an "organizationally challenged" senator from North Carolina, a former athletic coach, who is more concerned with perks of his job than passing legislation. Then there's Louis Laffer (Matt Malloy), the resident neat freak from Nevada, who seems to know more about women's clothing than the average male. (Gil John and Louis are like the senate version of "The Odd Couple") Pennsylvania Senator Robert Bettencourt (Clark Johnson) has a fondness for expensive suits and possibly some shady business dealings. Finally, there's Andy Guzman (Mark Consuelos), the womanizing freshman senator from Florida, who is not shy about his presidential aspirations. Despite their faults, all four of the senators are likeable fellows. Not a mean-spirited one in the bunch. Gil John, who has easily coasted by without actively campaigning, now faces a formidable challenger in the upcoming election. Louis and Robert also are up for reelection against more conservative opponents. A lot of the fun of the series is in the senators relationships with each other and with their competition. This includes not only competition during their reelection campaigns, but with other senators across the aisle. Cynthia Nixon plays Senator Carly Armiston, the smart, but self-righteous chair of the Ethics Committee. Wanda Sykes, who plays Senator Rosalyn DuPeche, who is also the fellows next door neighbor has a more cordial relationship with the guys.Read more ›

This show is great... it's only barely political which keeps it funny for everyone without being too overly insulting but edgy enough to show the faults our politicians have. It's funny, well cast and a show I hope to see stay. Very good job.

I love this show. Like another reviewer said, who knew there would be a good show about Republicans? The cast is great! Goodman and Malloy of course, and of the female talent, Sedaris, White, Sykes and Nixon are my favorites. The story lines and the characters are engaging. And, OK, living in Duke/UNC country during our current political climate some of the references in Goodman's story line obviously hit home.

I think this is the first amazon original series I've watched. Great quality programming. I look forward to seeing more of it.

Great job by Gary Trudeau.

2 stars might be a little low. The 4 principles all do a great job but the writing is weak. Veep on HBO, a similar show which tackles the general incompetence and self importance of politicians and there staff is much sharper. Its a shame. I was excited for this, the premise, the cast: Goodman, the principled reporter guy from the wire season 5 and Consuelos playing a womanizer evil twin of Marco Rubio. Also, its easy to lampoon republicans without insulting their basic humanity. Not sure why Alpha House decided to choose the route that alienates about half their potential audience. I wouldn't recommend it. Check out Veep instead.
