Thank you for a super-hero show that is uplifting and that I can show my kids. I've been collecting comics for over 30 years and before that I had the Superman films that captured my imagination and gave me something to look up to. In the late 80s deconstructionism became the trend in comics and comics became more dense, darker and more adult. There is nothing wrong with that. But there shouldn't just be one flavor. We grew up and we took the superhero with us. And we think we own them and get upset when something is geared towards the younger audience. We've had a string of Batman and Superman movies that would scare the crap out of me at the age I was when Christopher Reeve was my hero. Gotham is practically a horror TV show. I love Arrow but it's dark. But the Flash is like able and fun. And now we have something that is a mix between that and the Christopher Reeve movies. We have a TV superhero my daughters can look up to and capture their imagination!

I'll admit to feeling a little buyer's regret when I first bought the season pass for Supergirl: Season 1... but I certainly don't feel that way now.

The show has gotten progressively better with each episode and I've been delighted to see that they're FINALLY connecting a kryptonian to the wider DC Universe - even a version that's different from the comics; neither Supergirl nor Superman should exist in a world where they're the ONLY metahumans/super-powered people around (a flaw in some earlier television shows and film).

But not only that, the cast and their characters have gotten better too, becoming more and more three-dimensional as the season goes on; I particularly like how they've shown Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) to be an actual human being with both virtues and flaws; ambitious and driven, but ultimately a decent person - not just the ice queen/business-woman-tyrant stock character I was expecting.

Melissa Benoist was cast perfectly. I was a little unsure of her at first... but naw - she's Supergirl; she's a genuine superhero. She and the writers have given the character many of the same core qualities that make Superman great - and I don't mean his powers. Superman remains one of the greatest characters in comics because of WHO he is, not what he can do. And Benoist's Kara has it too: she's a moral, ethical person who has genuine concern and empathy for others. And she has shown a real warmth toward those around her on the show. But at the same time, she's not "perfect" either; she's not one-dimensional. She feels unsure sometimes and gets frustrated and upset like the rest of us. What can I say - Benoist can act and I find myself looking forward to seeing her Supergirl each episode.

If you haven't given this show a chance, you should.

Superb series, I would hope, after watching the pilot many times.

I have been a fan of Supergirl ever since I picked up a Supergirl comic (Action Comics) and began collecting the books in 1972.

While this is another rewrite of Supergirl, it is one of the best. No more teenage girl with teenage temper tantrums, etc. Here we have a young woman that is coming out of her shell to be the hero she was destined to be! Supergirl isn't afraid to dive in and take the bumps. She has a mission and she's going to do it.

Also, I am so very tired of "dark" heroes. It is quite impossible to be bad and yet be good. Sorry, that just doesn't exist. Now we have a good hero who is good (like it should be). Her costume is modest (YES) and she sticks up for what is right.

Now Supergirl is a very good role model for today's young kids and grown women as well. I hope this series airs for many, many years.

Of course there are a few flaws like the big Chicken Pox scar between the eyes which makeup didn't bother to cover. Also the earrings, which would definitely show that Supergirl's earth family has a knowledge of Kryptonite and probably had Superman's help in giving her earrings with a Kryptonite laced needle.

But with such a fine series, these small flaws can easily be overlooked or addressed as a flashback in future episodes.

Long live Supergirl!

I'm really enjoying it! I like the fact that the lead plays the innocent do-gooder with energy and certainty, and doesnt try to make the character some kind of dark, brooding over imagined personality. The last episode, though, where she beats a human villian that Superman couldn't was a bit too far :)

Supergirl TV Pilot Review

Although the pilot had some flaws, like making Jimmy Olsen too super-cool, Cat Grant too super-obnoxious (a problem that seems to be getting fixed now several episodes into the season), and Kara too super-insecure, I still found the pilot dramatic, exciting, humorous and ultimately positive and uplifting, as any show about the Superman family should be. I laughed--and I cried. :-)

Although the flaws seemed to loom larger to many posters on IMDB, who started flaming each other (as usual, I suppose), I was pleasantly surprised to see that even though I often like shows that don't win huge audiences, the Supergirl pilot tied the pilot of executive producer Greg Berlanti's other new show, Blindspot, for the highest new-show rating of the 2015 fall season. ABC has already renewed Blindspot, and I'm hoping that CBS will do the same with Supergirl.

I was even pleasantly surprised to find that my 87-year-old mother, who has substantially different tastes than mine, really enjoys Supergirl. So while the show can't literally have something for everyone, it does have quite a wide range of appeal--to both the comic-book fan audience and, dare I say, to those light-years beyond. :-D
