Given the subject matter of the show it will tend to be polarizing for those that can enjoy it and those that can't. It is dark but it is also strangely funny and all in all a very good show. My favorite show in a long time, but it isn't for everyone. You can look on the series subject matter before ever watching a show and decide if it is something you think you could stand watching. If so then give a few shows a shot from season one, more than likely you will know if you want to keep watching all the seasons within the first 3-4 shows.

In my opinion the show is well worth paying for, the way many episodes end I am not sure I would be able to last watching it like a normal season on Showtime having to wait a week to see what comes next. With so many shows that I used to enjoy becoming boring and uninspired (I'm looking at you House) this show continues to offer me something each season being better than the last.

I really enjoyed the pilot episode. It's a new twist on the crime genre. Looking forward to seeing the next episode.

I read the first book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, which was amazing, and that prompted me to check out Season 1 from our local library. It was even better than the book..Michael C. Hall is perfection in this role and every one of the 12 episodes in this first season was riveting. I am totally hooked and look forward to watching Seasons 2-5 which are available also through our library. Yes there is some violence, but not really like you see in extreme slasher films. Much of the actual killings are implied with the scene cutting away right at the awful moment so it is not TOO graphic....considering that that main character is a serial killer focused on catching another serial killer throughout the twelve episodes.

If you haven't given Dexter a watch yet, you won't be disappointed. He's really quite likable!

The first few seasons really shine, Dexter is a fresh storyline, with suspenseful plots, and great acting. This show stands head & shoulders above most of what else is out there.

Dexter Morgan - blood Spatter Expert and Serial Killer. He's been living a double life for a while now and has kept that paart of himself shelves and out of the way. The only person who knew was someone from his past, and that person taught him a great many things on staying alive in such a mad world. Dexter also has a squad of people aroudn him you will get to know, a sister you will get to know even more, and a case you will grow to love featuring The Ice Truck Killer. In this episode we see Dexter (and see the overlap better book 1 and this season) and the way he sees blood, not to mention the Dark Passenger. We also see the ITK and the way he kills and the way Dexter admires the person's style.
Its like living in Dahlmerland - that's how the book put it - except there are no rides (thank goodness).

M.C. Hall is the PERFECT Dexter. After 3 seasons of him I can say he is the reason that Dexter connects with people and is not a monster to us. Watch the show - you will see. Jennifer C - his sister Deb - is also a unique personality here and you will grow to enjoy her. She has a sailor's mouth and keeps in shape and loves to pick the wrong type of people. She plays it to a tee. And the rest of the cast are great as well and, if you think you know how it all ends because you read the book, you are wrong. The book and this are different in a lot of ways AND the end is a strong part of it. So, readers, watch this as well.

Closing this up, the twists and turns are great and learning about Dexter's past is a wild ride. You learn a lot in this season, too, and you see how Dexter was "made." You also see other things, bits that are spooky and the things he does away with, making you wonder exactly what the Dark Passenger is doing riding shotgun with Dexter.
So many rules - so many graves. He is in the perfect place to be himself, that's for sure.

Thank goodness for Dexter, the first serial (get it?) show I've found fills the hole vacated by Tony and the gang from North Jersey. Start from the beginning and you'll fall in love with Dexter, his beloved and brilliantly hilarious and crass sister Deb, and the cast and crew that is so fantastic, ... they're delicious. I've had so much fun watching this show that I wonder if its just me, or am I crazed to find this show so enjoyable despite its crass and crude subject matter. But there's so much truth to this show, ... we all wear a mask, and we all act out, ... it's just what's acceptable versus what's not that begs the question.

Check this out, ... Dexter is brilliant, I can't wait for more

Dexter is such an amazing show. It is creepy and yet I find myself drawn to it. I can't wait for season 3 to be available for download!

A blood splatter expert working for the Miami police dept. who is a serial killer, but Only kills bad people-example-pedofiles, rapists, murderes, ect! He was born without conscience, but was taught by his Dad how to fit in and when and where to show appropriate emotions. I mean, what's not to love about this. You absolutely do not want to wake up on his "operating table"-no anesthesia! The characters all are great together and you will get hooked on this series if you watch an episode!

My sister-in-law INSISTED I would LOVE this show so I bought season one. I forced myself to get though the first four episodes hoping it would get better--some shows are slow starters--but I don't think I can get through any more. What an idiotic premise! Don't waste your time.

Dexter itself is a great show.

Amazon Unbox is a DRM nightmare, there is a reason everyone else is going away from this. After I watched this purchase I uninstalled it (yes it requires a program installed on your computer to be able to download and watch) and will never use it again, unless of course they do away with the DRM.
