Having watched Season 2 first, I absolutely loved the show but felt, even without having seen Season 1, that Carter's love-interest weakened it. Now that I've seen Season 1, I feel that even more emphatically. I've read the reasons behind why Bruckheimer changed the format: wanted to soften it, lighten it up, make Carter more approachable, add humor, etc. But there are plenty of other shows you can go to for that. Yes, Carter is dark and brooding, but I really don't want a rogue undercover guy to be anything else. So many potentially great shows get dummied up these days with a lot of camp, and although Dark Blue has a long way to go to be in that category, I hate to see even a little bit of softening of the edges. To me they have diluted a first-rate product in Season 2, although I agree with JudahFirst that it is absolutely still one of the best shows out there. I hope it's back for Season 3, without Tricia Helfer.

I adored the first season of Dark Blue and the pilot is a MUST-SEE!! I have not been impressed with season 2, however, but the show still out ranks everything else out there. The characters are believable and memorable. Many of the story lines (season 1) will keep you on the edge of your seat!
