5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, October 30, 2003

This is an extensive and engaging review of the history of European Pilotage under sail and oar. I am a third generation seaman, a pilot and a student of maritime history. This is a first class retrospect in every regard. Any sailor or student of maritime history will love this book. As a bonus, the photographs and reproductions are rare and of museum quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, January 11, 2011

This review is from: Pilots: The World of Pilotage Under Sail and Oar: Vol.1 Pilot Schooners of North America and Great Britain (Hardcover)
This book was worth every penny that I paid for it. It is an interesting book to read and is loaded with photographs, paintings, diagrams, etc, of pilot boats used during the days of sail. It is a large, beautiful book of high quality and I cannot say enough positive things about it. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this area.
