Analog Brothers Delivers Futuristic Beats & Rhymes,
By Luis (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pimp to Eat (Audio CD)
"Pimp To Eat" brings space beats, out of control advanced lyrics, and an overall greatness. Kool Keith and Ice T of course are the highlights of this album. Keith brings his usual style of wacky, off the wall lyrics and Ice T changes his style from original gangster to space pimp. Silver Synth's futuristic-sounding voice also shines on this CD. There is nothing mainstream about this album, just 5 MCs coming together to make an album that probably won't be recognized until the year 2005.Bionic Oldsmobile, Country Girl, Silver Surfer vs. Analog Annihilator are three of the best tracks.

Analog Brothers make The Jetsons look like The Flintstones.,

If you thought Kool Keith's Dr. Octagon and Black Elvis was as "spaced-out" as it gets, then you my friend, thought wrong. Boys and girls, I give you, Analog Brothers Pimp to Eat. An "out-of-this-world" hip-hop adventure, where Star Trek and Stargate, are things of ancient history. If having the dangerously bizarre Kool Keith isn't enough to convince you Pimp to Eat is far off in left field, then maybe the exotic combination of both Kool Keith and the more cliched rapper Ice T will. In fact, Pimp to Eat is so far in left field, it's past the warning track. Equipped with Keith Korg, Ice Oscillator, Silver Synth, and Rex Roland, the Analog Brothers cook up quite a recipe, and boy is the outcome yummy. Analog Intro, to Analog Outro, the album itself does not dissatisfy. Pimp to Eat, is no classic such as the flawless Dr. Octagon and Dr. Dooom projects from Kool Keith, but if you're looking for that abstract flavor of hip-hop, this may be just as good. The production isn't up to par with Keith's other releases, which is the principal flaw with the album. Lyrically, Pimp to Eat is in a category of it's own. That could be good or bad, depending who's listening. I honestly thought Ice T would devalue the album with his predictable and mediocre rap style, but my unfaithfulness in Ice Oscillator proved to be a complete bombshell, as he ripped each and every track he spit on. The others (Keith Korg, Silver Synth, & Rex Roland) were on point as well. If you're looking for superbly produced hip-hop, then by all means turn away. If you can withstand second-rate instrumentals, laced with lyrics of that beyond your usual Kool Keith standard, look no further.

Ice-T & Kool Keith Are United At Last!,
By
This review is from: Pimp to Eat (Audio CD)
Without a doubt, PIMP TO EAT is one of the best things to hit hip-hop in a long while. While these generic Bling-Bling'ers pop out their lil' innocuous pop s*$t, two of the kings have teamed up to show and prove with some very able upstarts along for the ride.Contrary to what some know-nothings have posted, Ice is Keith's equal (and more!) in every respect. I love Keith, but it's Ice's incredible presence on the mic which captivates. Vocal timbre in effect, y'all. Be amazed as Ice flips it high-tech ("Intro"), and then laces ya with that intense, yet cool drawl (the AWESOME "More Freaks"). Here's hoping the Brothers reunite soon for a follow-up. Essential hip-hop for true headz. Don't sleep. . .

Good album but beware!,
This review is from: Pimp to Eat (Audio CD)
This is a fun album, worthwhile for those who are already fans of Kool Keith. But beware if you are buying this used. The instrumental version of this CD looks exactly the same as the real version. It even has the same catalog number! I'd advise not buy this from Marketplace, unless the seller will pop this in a CD player and confirm that it is not the instrumental version.

Excellent disc here from the Analog Bros. Takin' waaaay back. Simple beats and nice flow - effortless between them, beautiful. Sensitive ladies (including your momma) may not like some of the lyrics... but what do you want with a title like this? Anyway, not a masterpiece, I say, because Keith can do better (and so can Ice-T) and I've heard better work from other artists this year. But I'm not going to sell it or anything and it's definitely in heavy rotation. If you dig on the hard rhymes, like Kool Keith/Ice-T, still yearn for the fat beats and aren't past the 808, well... buy the record.

I was worried when i heard the first track. But the rest of the album comes hard. Keith is sick as always. Ice T was a pleasant suprise. I was skeptical about how good he could possibly be. But his rhymes on this album are raw. Beats are off the hook.

While "Matthew" was a respectable album, and the lyrics will make you crap your slacks, "Pimp to Eat" is a mind-boggling mess of Sci-Fi dust with far-reaching rhyme range. Silver Synth rocks the mic over Keith on many a track, especially "Analog Intro." Ice-T is in incredible form, silencing all of the nay-sayers with his drops on Who Wanna Be Down? and calling shots on More Freaks. Country Girl shows the softer side of Keith, and everything ends up conjoined at the end. With incredible production and unique rhymes, this album is a definite buyer.

Keith lets T join the party,

Another Kool Keith album. For most artists, especially in hip hop, with the exception of dead people, and the tireless, talentless DMX, two or three albums in one 12 month span would be plenty. Thankfully, Keith's rediscovered his prolific side, and this disc, following on the heels of Matthew, The Dr. Dooom CD, Sex Style and Lost in Space, is another high point in a career that's full of them. Be warned: if you don't know his work (and you probably don't, or you would have either already ordered this disc, or never bothered reading this review) Keith is not for the casual bling-bling Ca$h Money listener. He raps about subjects that would give Eminem nightmares, while alluding to his mother, pet rodents and Kool Aid. This CD finds him donning another personna, Robbie Analog, a pimp, so the subject matter comes back every once in awhile to this main theme, but he basically just flies of the hilt like he always does. There are any number of lines that I could quote here, but you're better off checking out a sample in realAudio or something. What keeps this CD from being 5-star quality is Keith's brother, Ice-T. I agree with the amazon reviewer that it's some of T's best work in years, but when you hear him following Keith, no matter how hard he tries, you find yourself waiting for Keith's next bar. Oh, and as for the beats, they're OK. Nothing special, but aside from the Dr. Octagon CD (which earned 3000 stars from me), recorded with the Automator, Keith has always been more about the rymes than the beats. Notice how many choruses are simply the song title repeated 4 times for proof. In short, like any Keith release, it's worth buying for his performance alone. Here's hoping that next time he brings along a friend who has skills remotely close to his own...

Do You Not Understand...........,

Let me ask something. If you put Kool Keith and Ice T on the same album what do you get?You get some astonishing spaced-out sh%t. Let me explain something else. Keith Korg and Ice Ocilator bring hop-hop to an entirely different level. Silver Synth and Rex Roland make the party even more impressive. I could go on and on about how great this album is, but I really don't have enough time for all that I am at work. I would like to highlight a couple of things about this album though. Keith Korg and Ice Ocilator make this album. Without either of them, this classic would be garbage. Straight up. You can't have one on this album without the other. Keith comes from an entirely different background of music compared to Ice. But they somehow make it work. That should go to show these two have more talent that we could ever know. Silver and Rex are there too. Can't forget them. Silver is without a doubt on some extreme space lyrical subject matter. If you aren't intelligent dont even bother trying to listen to him. Rex isn't as spaced-out as Silver, but he does offer some catchy hooks on a couple of the tracks. Now enough about the artist, on to the production and tracks. The productionm is amazing. What more could I say. This album sounds nothing like the previous Keith albums, which is a plus in a way because it makes this album different. I would love to own an instrumental version of this masterpiece. The best tracks are the following: Analog Intro, More Freaks, So Bad, Who Wanna Be Down, Country Girl(my fav track), and Bionic Oldsmobile. To add to that the Analog Outro is nice too. Once again classic album. Five Stars Plus. It is really sad work this great will never be recognized. If you like Kool Keith the slightest, then you will feel this album. I must warn you though, if you watch BET or MTV you won't feel this album.

Really, quite astonishing.,
By Malcolm (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews

I'm no music critic, but that doesn't matter. I've been listening to Ice T since I was 10, and Kool Keith since I was, um, 22. When I first read a review of this album in a magazine, I was skeptical. These are two very different styles, and mixing them is no easy task. What an amazing surprise, though, to hear this album. Ice T hasn't sounded this good since OG, hasn't been able to string pimp ryhmes this easily, this smoothly. That, in itself, would be reason enough to buy this album. But, no; Ice T THEN manages to blend his style so seamlessly with Kool Keith's, it's as though they have been doing this for years. This is a more than impressive first album, and belongs in your hot little hands.
