A Unique Alabama Sound,
By T.Wicks (Cambridge, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pimp & Da Gansta (Audio CD)
The tricky part about Dirty is figuring out when to listen to them. It is strange music. The beats are often slow and dreamy with ghostly piano ringing in the back, and then suddenly The Pimp and Da Gangsta break out in a rapid fire flow that will make you say, "What the hell is this?" With a mixture of laid back pimpin' and hardcore Alabama crunk they create songs that conjure up images of muddy backroads with battered cadillacs cruising over them. It is music for hot days when all you want to do is sit down with some lemonade and fall asleep. There is an almost surreal sound to their songs that can either make you fall in love with them or pass them off as a bizzare regional sound that you will never identify with.

You Better HIt Da Floe,
By Guillotine617 (Forestville, Maryland) - See all my reviews

Straight from the heart of Alabama comes a sound that'll bust a hole in your trunk for sure. I am a huge fan of the Southern Rap genre, but I have never heard of these dudes before. "Hit Da Floe" was the first song I heard from them and from there, I was like DAMN! Who is that? This entire CD is some of the best music I've heard from down South. "Hit Da Floe", "Candyman", "Rollin' Vouges", "Yean Heard", "Ride".... Man the whole CD rock like hell. I blast this CD everytime I get in the car. I pull up at lights and other people be bobbin there heads. This is a must have. Buy it, Burn it, Steal it, whatever. Just cop it.

What Outkast isn't,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pimp & Da Gansta (Audio CD)
Dirty is holding down the almost dead southern style that outkast first came into the game with. I am highly disappointed with Outkast's current flow and style and dirty is a welcome trip back to the old skool. Their laid back lyrics and style are awesome. This is by far one of the better hip hop albums of the year. Well worth a listen.

Alabama classic,
By Nuisance "the rebel" (Miami) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pimp & Da Gansta (Audio CD)
I heard of Dirty through a friend and then I saw the video for Hit Da Floe. Their first single Hit Da Floe was tight and I definetely like their rhymes schemes on that track. The second single Rollin Vogues was good but I feel they should have more exposure from that. Gimme Sum Mo is straight and 6 Deep Creepin is pretty much a highlight track by itself. Even though I'm not fond of songs for the ladies, Candyman(which samples Keith Sweat) is alright. Ride is a laidback cut where Dirty plus another guest whose name I forget at the moment rip the track to bits and pieces over a smooth beat. I also enjoyed their ode to greenery called Yean Heard and that skit that came before it was funny as hell. As for skip material there is none. Its one of those rare album you can play from beginning to end. The album ends off with a farewell to their deceased friends called R.I.P. That song described in one word: beautiful(I mean Mourn You Till I Join You and Flowers For The Dead beautiful). Bottom Line: The Pimp & Da Gangsta is the one of the best releases of 2001 from the best thing to come out of Alabama. They both have tight flows, the production was awesome and you have to admit that's pretty good for a group to put out an album that you can listen to without skipping(especially in these days and times). Standout Tracks: ROLLIN VOGUES, GIMME SUM MO, 6 DEEP CREEPIN, BENDIN CORNERS, CANDYMAN, YEAN HEARD, RIDE, HIT DA FLOE, DA LAND and R.I.P.

Very, very solid CD all the way thru: the prodution, beats, lyrics, story-telling, head bustin', more importantly no features...the tracks will remind you a lot of Coming Out Hard. Overall, worth buying twice, it's that nice.

PROUD TO BE FROM "BAMA",
By MR RAY RAY "REPPIN MONTGOMERY, AL" (LIVING IN JVILLE, FLA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pimp & Da Gansta (Audio CD)
DEM DIRTY BOYZ REPRESENT OUR HOME TOWN(MONTGOMERY,AL) TO THE FULLEST .....I HAVE ALL 5 OF THEIR CD'S AND THEY ARE NOTHING LESS THAN SPECTACULAR TO SAY THE LEAST. THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM INTRODUCES THE WORLD TO THE SOUTHERN FLAVA THAT WE(FROM THE SOUTH) HAVE BEEN FEELING FOR YEARS IN THE UNDERGROUND SCENE WITH GROUPS LIKE 3-6 MAFIA,EIGHTBALL&MJG,UGK,OUTKAST ETC.... THIS IS NOTHING SHORT OF A CLASSIC. HIT THE FLOOR WAS THE FIRST SINGLE AND NOW EVERYONE IS SAYING"HERE WE IS BOY!!!" I LOVED THAT SONG THE 1ST TIME I HEARD IT. DA LAND HAS TO BE MY SECOND FAVORITE BECAUSE IT TALKS ABOUT OUR CITY AND THE WAY OF LIFE THERE. 2 DEEP CREEPIN IS MY 3RD FAV BECAUSE IT TALKS ABOUT A DOPE CAPER BUT IF YOU LISTEN TO THE LYRICS IT MAKES YOU FEEL AT HOME AS THEY DESCRIBE THE GETAWAY MENTIONING SEVERAL KNOWN AREAS OF THE WESTSIDE OF MONTGOMERY (MY STOMPING GROUND). IN SHORT IF YOU LIKE SOUTHERN MUSIC YOU NEED TO HAVE THIS CD.
