THE PIMP IS FREE!!,
By Will "Will" (203) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pimpalation (Audio CD)
This without a doubt is one of the BEST Southern rap albums to come out in a minute. I will admit, when Pimp C was locked up, I didn't feel that his music would be that great after he came out cuz I hadn't heard much from him. This album makes me take him more seriously. Alotta bangers on here too. Don't listen to anyone hatin on this album and go cop it now! UGK 4 LIFE!!

A Notch Below Sweet James Jones Stories,
This review is from: Pimpalation (Audio CD)
like I said in the title of my review this album is a notch below sweet james jones stories. The reason was that it is a notch below it is because a couple of the tracks like that one with ali & gipp were sorry. Too much of them and not enough Pimp C.

Solid 2nd solo from Pimp C - 4.5 stars - Welcome Home - R.I.P.,

This review is from: Pimpalation (Audio CD)
Fresh out of jail after 4+ years and back in the studio, Pimp C delivers a solid 2nd album, worth 4.5 stars. As one half of one of the best groups ever in rap (UGK), and being in the rap game for 14 years, one of the real, original rappers from the south, and one of the few with actual talent, Pimp C drops a solid 2nd solo album, just 16 months since his solo debut was released while he was in jail, this one is a little better. Just can't wait for a new UGK album to drop now. With 15 songs on here, 1 is a classic, 2 are almost classic material , 1 or 2 I skip, about 3 atre average and the rest are tight. As I said guests are heavy, on 14 of the 15 songs so you don't get as much of Pimp C as I'd hoped. Production is tight as well. Mr. Lee does 3 songs, Mike Dean, Clay D and Jazze Pha each do 2, and Mykel Diesel, Salih, Cory Mo, Mouse, Manny Fresh and Pimp C all do 1 song. A must have album from one of the Trillest!
#2 - 10 (CLASSIC! - great beat/sample) #3 - 9.5 (f/ P.O.P., Lil Keke -- great gangsta beat) #4 - 9.5 (f/ Scarface, willie D, Bun B - tight beat) #5 - 8.5 (f/ Mike Jones, Bun B) #6 - 7 (f/ Jody Breeze, Tela, Jazze Pha) #7 - 6 (f/ Cory Mo) #8 - 7 (f/ vicious, Smoke D) #9 - 8.5 (f/ Slim Thug -- tight beat) #10 - 8.5 (f/ Eightball & MJG -- nice beat) #11 - 3 (f/ Lil Boosie & Webbie -- horrible song) #12 - 7.5 (f/ Manny Fresh & Suga) #13 - 9 (f/ Big Mike -- nice beat) #14 - 9 (f/ trae & Chamillionaire -- nice beat) #15 - 8 (f/ Big Zak, Jagged Edge, Ali Jones, Big Gipp) #16 - 8 (f/ Z-Ro & Tanya Herron) Chad Butler -- b. 12/73 d. 12/4/07 -- Port Arthur, TX Check all my reviews

Pimp C is back and does his thing on this album. I listened to the whole cd from beginning to the end and pimp c murders the beats. The only thing i didn't like was that there are a lot of guest appearances and pimp is sometimes overshadowed, but overall this is a great cd.

Pimp C-Pimpalation!!! A Coming Out Party,
By Enlightened "Both Eyes Closed, see what u don... (Atlanta Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pimpalation (Audio CD)
Pimp C returns with his second solo album in two years but this time he's out of jail and ready to ride. Pimp C - Pimpalation is a coming out party and everyone is invited: Lil Keke, Mike Jones, Bun B, Slim Thug, Trae, Chamillionaire, Zro, Lil Webbie and Boosie ( who he discovered), Big Mike, Scarface, Willie D (who isn't listed on the back), Mannie Fresh, Tela, 8Ball & MJG, Jagged Edge, Big Gipp, Jody Breeze ( when is his solo gonna drop!?!?!?), Jazze Pha, and Cory Mo as well as others. The only notable omissions are T.I., Too Short, and Paul Wall but that can be forgiven. Given the talent of that roster it's easy to see that this album is hotness. Even though Pimp C has many guest appearances, he steals the show with his charisma, mic presence, and pimp tight lyrics. Pimp C continues to spit that game and manages to keep a cohesive feel throughout the album; he shows why he is one of the south's most revered mcs.
The usual themes are here; cars, women, money but he does it way better than many of the people out right now trying. The production is smooth and pimpalicious handled by Jazze Pha, Mannie Fresh, Cory Mo, Mr. Lee and others. The choruses to some of the songs are instantly familiar as he uses some classic lines on songs Pourin Up (smokin out pourin up keep that lean off in my cup, all my cars got leather and wood in my hood we call it buck), Git Ya Mind Right (git ya mind right hater you a simp and I'm a red hot undercover pimp), Overstand Me (everybody rappin like they ballin in the mix, I see em in the streets I ain't believing that shhh, your diamonds aint shining and ya rolex ain't real, while I'm grippin on the grain sippin lean and poppin pills) and Working the Wheel (I'm trill working the wheel you can get a bizzerp I'm chokin on that dosier sweet and sippin on some sizzerp). He comes back strong with Havin Thangs 06 (fly hoes and chains and swanging thangs...just another young player havin thangs mayne) which is an instant classic. The best songs other than those mentioned would be The Honey w/ Jody Breeze & Tela, Knockin Doors Down ( where he urges rappers to drop the beef and get the money), On Your Mind with Jagged Edge and Gipp, Cheat On Yo Man w/ Mannie Fresh, and I Miss U w/ ZRO. This album is undoubtedly one of the best releases of the year along with T.I.'s King, Da Backwudz - Wood Work and a few others. Pimpalation is an instant classic...down south music at it's finest. 5 stars...a must have. * side note...the album came out in stores like two weeks before they let you review on this site which was wack but no harm done*

Finally free, Pimp C drops a remarkable lp. With many collabs, including his homeboy Bun B, this album is solid start to finish. Keepin' it trill for life. Pick this album up.

Ever since UGK released "Wood Wheel", I have been a fan of pretty much anything that they have released. My 2 favorite discs from UGK are "Ridin' Dirty" and "Dirty Money". Once Chad Butler was locked up and Bun B was able to retain focus, he was the main one behind the Free Pimp C movement. He was able to single handedly hold UGK down while Pimp C was away by the various collaborations that he was featured on, his solo CD, "Trill" and just by word of mouth by not letting anyone forget the other half of UGK, Pimp C. Ever since Pimp C was released in December of 2005, we have heard him on various collaborations such as a retooled remix of Bun B's "Get Throwed", a track with E-40, Juelz Santana and Bun B called "White Girl", "Chunk Up The Deuce" w/Lil Keke, Paul Wall & Bun B, Lil Flip's remix to "U'z A Trick" w/Bun B, Chamillionaire's remix to "Ridin' Dirty" w/Bun B and even two r&b tracks "Dope Girl" w/Brooke Valentine and "Love Song" w/Missez.
Pimp C even released a DVD a couple of months back also entitled "Pimpalation" just so everyone could see the moments right after he was released from jail, scenes from Pimp C in the studio after his release and just Pimp C and various other rappers such as Bun B, Trae, Z-Ro and others just talking about Texas, Rap A Lot Records and things in general. The 1st two tracks that I heard from Pimp C's solo project were "Pourin' Up" w/Bun B and Mike Jones and another track that didn't make the CD entitled "Hold Up" w/Paul Wall and Bun B. "Pourin' Up" ends up being the perfect choice as the 1st single as the chorus comes from one of the famous lines that Pimp C made famous on UGK's collaboration with Jay Z, "Big Pimpin'". Mike Jones doesn't make or break the track with his verse, but Bun B closes things out something lovely with his verse. "Free" samples Tom Petty's "Free Falling" and definitely is the anthem for Pimp C to let everyone know that he is enjoying his freedom and how he likes not being locked up in the Texas State prison system any longer. "Knockin' Doors Down" which features Lil Keke and P.O.P. and is produced by Myke Diesel, is clearly my choice for the best song on "Pimpalation". Pimp C takes a break on pimpin' for a minute to try to unite all the Southern rappers who still can't seem to get along with each other such as TI & Lil Flip, Slim Thug & Z-Ro and Paul Wall & Chamillionaire. In so many words, Pimp C lets everyone know that until we unite as rappers from practically the same form of music, we won't be able to maximize the money that they can make from being rappers. P.O.P. and Lil Keke take care of the rest and you definitely will be listening to this track more than once. "Rock For Rock" features Scarface, Willie D and Bun B and will remind alot of people of "Pushin'" from Bun B's "Trill" CD that featured Bun B, Scarface & Young Jeezy. Everyone gives impressive verses as the song is nice but the subject matter has been covered before. "Working The Wheel" features Slim Thug and the chrous uses part of Pimp C's verse from Three 6 Mafia's and UGK's "Sippin' On Some Syrup". Slim Thug gets things started with one of Pimp C's famous quotes and the 2 rappers take care of the rest on Mike Dean's tight track. "Bobby & Whitney" features 8Ball & MJG w/Pimp C and the collaboration definitely works in my opinion. Mr. Lee, who produced various tracks on Slim Thug's "Already Platinum" and Bun B, Pimp C, Young Jeezy and Jay Z's "Get Throwed" does the production on "Bobby & Whitney". 8Ball & MJG's "Ridin' High", their follow up to "Living Legends" should be coming out in the next few months. Pimp C resurrects Big Mike's "Havin' Thangs" from Big Mike's CD "Somethin' Serious" on "Havin' Thangs '06" as Big Mike still shows that he has the skills that he had on the Geto Boys' "Til Death Do Us Part" and on "Somethin' Serious". To be honest, it's just real nice to hear Big Mike on a verse, because it has been awhile since I had heard him on anything. "Overstand Me" features Chamillionaire & Trae. Pimp C was featured on Trae's remix to "Swang" and had a nice verse on the track. Pimp C blends in well with verses from Trae's and Chamillionaire's as the track's beat sounds very familar to "Dirty Money's" "Look At Me". To close things out Pimp C, Tonya Herron and Z-Ro bring back Aaron Hall's "I Miss You" to surprising results as Pimp C and Z-Ro give heartfelt tributes to fallen family members. The problems that I have with "Pimpalation" is that some of these songs are unbearable. What I mean is that there are some songs that you won't want to hear more than once unless you are at a house party, club or strip club. The first example is definitely "The Honey" which features Jazze Pha and Jody Breeze from Boyz N Da Hood. The track might as well be Jody Breeze featuring Pimp C and Jazze Pha as much as you hear them on the track. You will not want to hear this track more than once. Then just when you think this is the only time you'll hear Jazze Pha's "Ladies and gentlemen", he shows up again on "On Your Mind" which features Gipp, Ali, Big Zak & Jagged Edge. I want to present Pimp C with a disclaimer: NEVER DO A SONG WITH JAZZE PHA AGAIN!!!! Trust me, you will not want to listen to "The Honey" or "On Your Mind" again. On the "Like That" (Remix), Webbie's and Lil Boosie's rhymes are real kindergarten. I do not need to hear what they want to do with Ciara, Beyonce or Trina and I definitely don't need to hear Lil Boosie try to rhyme Ashanti and Beyonce. Pimp C even talks about what he would try to do with Keyshia Cole. I understand that this is just a bounce track but if this is what a V12 Boyz CD is going to sound like I'll just pick up the next UGK CD. Overall, I am just glad that Pimp C is out of jail and able to release "Pimpalation". Hopefully, he has learned from his past mistakes and he can just spend time with his family & friends and just enjoy life to the fullest. While "Pimpalation" isn't up there with UGK's "Ridin' Dirty" and "Dirty Money" it is still a project that you can listen to and respect. I would rate "Pimpalation" 3 and a half stars. If you enjoyed Bun B's solo project "Trill" then you will definitely enjoy Pimp C's "Pimpalation". I definitely can't wait until the next UGK CD, especially now that the Pimp is FREE!!!! Smoke Somethin' BICCCCCCCHHHHHHHHH! James' Top 6 1) Knockin' Doors Down w/Lil Keke & P.O.P 2) Pourin' Up w/Bun B & Mike Jones 3) Bobby & Whitney w/8Ball & MJG 4) Free 5) Working The Wheel w/Slim Thug 6) Rock 4 Rock w/Bun B, Scarface & Willie D
