About what you'd expect,

This review is from: Pimpin' Inc. (Audio CD)
The 1st thing that stands out about this CD/DVD is the cloud of mystery surrounding it. There was pretty much zero promotion behind it. The product itself offers NO information whatsoever to its contents. The fact that there is a DVD included is not evident, nor is there a track listing for the "Bonus Mix CD" that it comes with. It took quite a bit of investigating before I had any idea of what this even was. You actually have to buy it & open it before the track listing & DVD info are revealed. At any rate, I'll start with the DVD. If you've ever seen The Hughes Brothers documentary "American Pimp" or the HBO special "Pimp's Up Ho's Down", then the DVD portion of this double disc is essentially worthless. It basically consists of Too Short & his boy, The Bishop of Crunk, breaking down the pimp game. Nothing you probably haven't already heard. The highlight is some drunken woman babbling about nothing. No doubt she's totally embarrased by that moment being captured on film & being distributed nationwide. As for the CD, it's OK but that's about it. As a long time Short fan, I'm a lil' bit disappointed. It features a ton of very high profile guests(Jay-Z,50 Cent,The Game), but they all give uninspired efforts. The UGK assisted 50 Cent track is ancient, having been taken from his unreleased Power Of The Dollar CD. It was originally titled "As The World Turns" but the beat is redone & Too Short pro tools his way onto it & calls it "I'm A Pimp". To his credit though, he admits that it's an "old school" song. Lil Jon appears on "Six Figga N***a's" an actually spits a so-so verse. Chyna Whyte nearly ruins it, though with her annoying flow. E-40 steals the show on "Cootie Cootie Coo", but the hook is wack. None of the beats stand out at all. He's gotten away from his signature sound since moving to Atlanta a few years ago, & it hurts him on this disc. His rhymes have never really been his strong point & that hasn't changed. Without the 808, which shows up on rare occasions, this CD falters somewhat. Hopefully, he's saving his best for the upcoming Jive release "Up All Nite", which is advertised as coming this spring.

A really good "post-retirement" album,

First and foremost, this is NOT a mix-tape, and I have no idea why it's labeled as such. Also, if these are remixes, then where are the original tracks? Again, ignore all the "mixtape" stuff. Since Too Short came back from retirement, he's had a slew of BAD albums (most of which are nothing more than collaberations with other rappers). This is not that, although there's a few tracks where other rappers appear. Solid from start to finish, it's got a modern sound but still has that Too Short flavor. I highly suggest this cd, along with Get off The Stage as well.
