The 1st thing that stands out about this CD/DVD is the cloud of mystery surrounding it. There was pretty much zero promotion behind it. The product itself offers NO information whatsoever to its contents. The fact that there is a DVD included is not evident, nor is there a track listing for the "Bonus Mix CD" that it comes with. It took quite a bit of investigating before I had any idea of what this even was. You actually have to buy it & open it before the track listing & DVD info are revealed. At any rate, I'll start with the DVD. If you've ever seen The Hughes Brothers documentary "American Pimp" or the HBO special "Pimp's Up Ho's Down", then the DVD portion of this double disc is essentially worthless. It basically consists of Too Short & his boy, The Bishop of Crunk, breaking down the pimp game. Nothing you probably haven't already heard. The highlight is some drunken woman babbling about nothing. No doubt she's totally embarrased by that moment being captured on film & being distributed nationwide. As for the CD, it's OK but that's about it. As a long time Short fan, I'm a lil' bit disappointed. It features a ton of very high profile guests(Jay-Z,50 Cent,The Game), but they all give uninspired efforts. The UGK assisted 50 Cent track is ancient, having been taken from his unreleased Power Of The Dollar CD. It was originally titled "As The World Turns" but the beat is redone & Too Short pro tools his way onto it & calls it "I'm A Pimp". To his credit though, he admits that it's an "old school" song. Lil Jon appears on "Six Figga N***a's" an actually spits a so-so verse. Chyna Whyte nearly ruins it, though with her annoying flow. E-40 steals the show on "Cootie Cootie Coo", but the hook is wack. None of the beats stand out at all. He's gotten away from his signature sound since moving to Atlanta a few years ago, & it hurts him on this disc. His rhymes have never really been his strong point & that hasn't changed. Without the 808, which shows up on rare occasions, this CD falters somewhat. Hopefully, he's saving his best for the upcoming Jive release "Up All Nite", which is advertised as coming this spring.

3.0 out of 5 stars A really good "post-retirement" album, January 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Pimpin Incorporated (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
First and foremost, this is NOT a mix-tape, and I have no idea why it's labeled as such. Also, if these are remixes, then where are the original tracks? Again, ignore all the "mixtape" stuff. Since Too Short came back from retirement, he's had a slew of BAD albums (most of which are nothing more than collaberations with other rappers). This is not that, although there's a few tracks where other rappers appear. Solid from start to finish, it's got a modern sound but still has that Too Short flavor. I highly suggest this cd, along with Get off The Stage as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not like the Bay but still a good album, March 19, 2006
This review is from: Pimpin Incorporated (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
I'm not even from the Golden State but I love west coast rap. I have every Short album since Born To Mack. He still sticks to his style and doesn't try to go too commercial that much but this album sounds like its coming straight from Lil Jon. It's a good album but it could be too commercial in my mind. Its defenitly produced and made well which is why its getting 4 out 5 stars. I also understand that it is a mixtape before the album so its not going to be off the charts. There was a good mix of artists on here but it all sounded like I was riding out to a club or somnething. When I want to hear about sluts, or just stupid girls where can I? Im really hoping that his next album will have a mix of style not just clubbing. I cant wait for his new album up all night. Shorty in my mind is still a pimp but should try and show love all across the nation not so much the south.

3.0 out of 5 stars 4 star for album "16" from $hort, January 20, 2006

This review is from: Pimpin' Inc. (Audio CD)
Let me start by saying I meant to give this 4 stars, it's closer to 4 then to 3 (about 3.75). A little over 2 years passed since the original pimp of the rap industry dropped an album and he is back with album "16" (or as he calls it a Mixtape not an album). Of the 11 $hort albums I have this is probably the 4th worst. Like most of his releases after the year 2000 his game is down and he don't have that west coast funk that made us all love him (this is another southern sounding album). With 17 songs, half are good half are ok, and 1 is a piece of a song from his 1999 album. Production credits aren't in the book but I know Jazze Pha, Lil Jon, Havoc of Mobb Deep, and Erick Sermon do some of it. The beats like I said are ok, mostly down soouth sounding. Guests rap on 9 songs (and are some big names from the west, east, and south) and do hooks on 2. His formula is still the same, more than half the song titles invole pimps or h0e$ so you get the same formula he's stuck to the last 20+ years. A nice album for hias fans but far from his best work.

#2 - 8
#3 - 6.5 (f/ Kool Ace)
#4 - 7
#5 - 8 (f/ HJavoc of Mobb Deep & Murda One of Nation Riders)
#6 - 9 (f/ 50 Cent & UGK (Bun B & Pimp C (nice to hear from him again, Free Pimp C! -- tight beat)
#7 - 7 (f/ Big Zak)
#8 - 7
#9 - 9 (f/ Jay-Z, BG, Chyna White & Lil Jon (who raps for once) -- samples Biggie's "Respect" beat)
#10 - 8 (f/ Erick Sermon & lloyd)
#11 - 8 (f/ the Game)
#12 - 6.5 (f/ E-40)
#13 - 8
#15 - 8 (f/ Shanell Woodgett)
#16 - 7.5 (about his days rapping in the early 80's)
#18 - 7.5
#19 - 7.5 (f/ C-Bo)

5.0 out of 5 stars Too $heezy Still proving the Haters wrong!, February 28, 2006
By
This review is from: Pimpin Incorporated (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
If you've read my other reviews, you'll notice that I am sick and tired of people still talking [bad] about the original Godfather of Pimp rap. I've read other reviews from "fake rap fans" claiming that Too $hort has lost it, true he is not as young as he used to be, but he still knows what he is doing, and he's STILL doing it better than any of these new rappers (Fake Pimps) He proves that he's still the best, along with 2 Pac that all these new rappers (Young Jeezy, David Banner,Petey Pablo, etc) and veteran rappers are still using them in their albums, knowing that just their names will sell albums. Honestly, I have'nt listened to the whole album yet, but I have heard some of the songs and they are instant classics. (...) Forty years old and he's still bumping the clubs. Before I even listened to some of the songs, when I heard he was coming out with a mixtape (not album) I knew (as all of you should've) that this was going to be another classic, but just wait until Album number 16 hits stores, as all the others, instant classic. I'm basically tired of defending $hort Dog, but keep hating, he'll just keep Playing!
