4.0 out of 5 stars Great music, but 10 tracks not enough, June 16, 2000
This review is from: Pimps Players & Private Eyes (Audio CD)
This "greatest hits" sampler of songs from 1970s blaxploitation flicks has some great tracks, from the obvious "Theme from 'Shaft'" and "Pusherman" to Bobby Womack's deliriously soulful "Across 110th Street" (it's the song that plays over the opening credits of Tarantino's "Jackie Brown"). Marvin Gaye's "Trouble Man" and Willie Hutch's elegant ballad "I Choose You" are fine tracks for the bedroom playas. The problem with this album is that it doesn't go far enough. A CD can hold up to 78 minutes worth of music, and this one has only about 40. I would have been happy just to hear some period instrumentals from some of these great flicks. Volume 2, please!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best compilation ever!, May 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pimps Players & Private Eyes (Audio CD)
My pal put this on a tape for me, and after listening, I searced and searched for the CD. Not many people know it exists (as I am only the 2nd person to comment). This album is wonderful. Diverse and easy to listen to, it speaks to all kind of audiences. I really enjoy it every time I listen to it.

A GREAT piece of work-all 3 of the main ttle songs from the Shaft trilogy,Superfly,Three The Hard Way and more.....if you liked the blaxploitation movies of the 70s this one is a must own.I ahd much of this on vinyl when it first came out but to have it here on one pristine digital recording is wonderful. This puppy begs for a followup or two!
