1.0 out of 5 stars A Fallen Star Now Rises
Ms. Parker is a woman with a knack for self-celebrity status and chutzpah to match. She is NOT the typical welfare mother in any way, shape or form, nor should she claim to represent anyone from that class. She sounds like the last party-goer rescued from a sinking ship who nows bashes anyone who had the bad taste to sail on the same boat. "I made it, too bad you...

Very rarely do we open our souls to strangers, but Mrs. Parker has done it and done it beautifully. As a Black man who has livied his entire lifein the Black Community, I can relate to what Mrs. Parker speaks about in her book. Her comments about our Welfare System are right on the money, it makes people LAZY! Sometimes we as Black folk hate when we are confronted with the truth, but while reading this book I'm sure a lot of readers will recognize a lot of people. Like we like to say,"Don't hate the player, hate the game." in other words we all make dumb mistakes. And most of them are made when we're young. I recommend this book highly, especially for young women who think Welfare is the subsitute for your childs father. After trying everything the Devil had to offer, Mrs. Parker found out that Our Lord Jesus Christ is the true ANSWER! To my young sisters buy this book and read it carefully and openly, to my young brothers. Take care of what you lay down and concieve. Remember children do not ask to come here! God Bless you and your's Mrs. Parker.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome book from an awesome lady!!!, May 8, 1999
By A Customer
I had the privalege of seeing Star Parker speak and then meet her at the Young America's Freedom Conference in San Diego. Her speech, much like her book, was awe-inspiring and wonderful as she tells of her dependancy on the government to living the American dream with house, family, business and God. This book shows what needs to happen in America, yet also warns conservatives of what we need to do to prosper. A must read for any American.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful approach to save conservative ideals, April 27, 1999
Star Parker is a invigorating paragon of the conservative movement. Her spirit shows in her wonderful book. She not only gave an account of her welfare life but many of her friends, and it became obvious to me how the system has failed for many years now. She also mentioned the way liberals have only helped the welfare problem by handing out money, decreasing the insentive of people to work. She is a sole believer that we are all Americans regardless of race and should be treated that way. Racism has gone both ways and needs to be stopped. Her ideas are so simple regarding race problems, welfare, etc. I definitely recommend this book not only to learn a bit more about the welfare system but to be reinvigorated in the conservative movement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent hard hitting book, March 16, 1998
By A Customer
As a Black Conservative successful businessman living in Southern California, I applaud Star Parker's book. We as African Americans can no longer look to the government(and/or Democrats) as our savior. As long as there are laws that protect us from being falsely jailed and/or lynched. We can (and should) compete to attain our life goals in this country regardless of the obsticles. Black America needs to wake up and stop blaming the "Man for keeping us down". As for myself, I am not, and will not, be treated or perceived as a victim. I am where I am today because of parents who cared enough to: 1. stay together 2. sacrifice so that I would have better opportunities 3. instill in me morals and values 4. discipline me to keep me on the right track 5. Teach me about the contributions of my ancestors, George Washington Carver, Harriet Tubman, etc. Kudos to Star Parker and others like her out there in the burgeoning Black Middle Class. A neglected, under served segment (by the Media) of the Black Community that is looking for a political party that refects its views and values. Hey Republicans, get a clue!! Sincerely, L. Poindexter Southern California

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!! A must read if you can handle the truth!!, February 11, 2004
By A Customer
The only people that wouldn't like this book. are the liberals who can't handle the truth or it coming out. I applaud Starr's effort for exposing the liberal democrats REAL agenda for blacks in this country. Government induced poverty, control and dependance. As a conservative black male, what she writes isn't ground breaking. It did however 100% validate what I knew as being true! If you haven't been exposed to the truth, then for you it WILL be ground breaking!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, May 2, 2005
This review is from: Pimps Whores and Welfare Brats: From Welfare Cheat to Conservative Messenger (Hardcover)
Ms. Parker's story is a true eye-opener, exposing the tragic consequences of misplaced American compassion whereby people are given fish rather than taught to fish, creating hopeless dependency rather than joyful self-suffiency. This should be required reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating story of rebuilding one's life, February 11, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Pimps Whores and Welfare Brats: From Welfare Cheat to Conservative Messenger (Hardcover)
In this book, Star Parker tells how she lived it up while she was on welfare. She had an apartment with a jacuzzi, lived in southern california, went partying every night, got abortions whenever she became pregnant, all at government's expense. Yet she was transformed by a minister. She got off the welfare rolls, raised her children in a wholesome manner, and started her own business. It was a difficult path to take, but she managed to be sucessful. The latter part of the book is full of fascinating political commentary that dispels the myth that if you're a black women you have to be a liberal democrat. A fascinating read

5.0 out of 5 stars Believe in God and Yourself and You'll be in Good Shape, March 2, 2000

Star's book is a wonderful example of what happens when people finally start adhering to the objective moral order. There are things in this book that the let's pretend lewd left don't want you to know. The major thing being that you do better when you do for yourself. I think that the reviewers who put down Ms. Parker are suffering from a severe case of guilty conscience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Either you know it or you want to shout it down, January 24, 2000

If God directs your life, this book will read like pure refreshment. If you prefer to make God in your image, some wimpy cosmic do-gooder that approves of your every action, you'll hate this book. Not more complicated than that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Star Parker tells it like it is, February 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Pimps Whores and Welfare Brats: From Welfare Cheat to Conservative Messenger (Hardcover)
Wow! What a book!

First, I couldn't put it down.

It is a well-written account of a black woman who has found POWER for herself and her family and her future, and is willing to tell us all the recipe. Her language, her thoughtfulness, and her passion all combine to make this book a great read.

A times in the story, the hairs raised on the back of my neck, because the book so perfectly stated things I've been thinking for so long.

An excellent book for young Christian blacks. You will be as excited as I was. This is an excellent book for anyone to read. Let's pull ourselves together.
