This method is easy to use and teaches you a very basic subset of the language very well. Pro: very easy to learn, can use almost anywhere with a walkman, high quality Con: Limited vocabulary and grammer, won't teach you to read or pronounce Portuguese

I am rather frustrated that it does not have a text book to supplement the work. If I could read along with the tapes, I could learn to read, pronounce, and recognize words.

However, this method works very well for me because I don't have the time or discipline to devote 30 minutes per day to do nothing but study a language like I did in school. It is a very easy way to get an introduction to a language. I am thinking about purchasing the complete 30 tape set for this, but you pay dearly ($300) for the convienience of learning that way.

I found Pimsleur'Portugese very easy to use.I have other self taught programs, but this by far, was the best.There are eight lessons on four casettes. The speakers enunciated well and allowed you enough time to repeat the phrases without rushing.There is no writing or reading to be done. Using my walkman, I found it convenient to carry with me and listen to. The key to this Program is the repetition. I enjoy using it.

The Pimsleur method is great - I've used it for Spanish and am starting on Portuguese. However, these sets of 4 tapes are only the first part in a very expensive system (each of three levels is about $300). These four tapes work, but only provide a taste of the overall system.
