Having read HUNTED, I was desperate for more of Caitlyn and Alex and the futuristic world where PARAS are on the run from the government. Anyone with paranormal abilities are ruthlessly hunted down and treated like animals, imprisoned and even tortured. Cheryl Rainfield created a captivating world you won't soon leave, even months later, I still think back to Caitlyn and her mother hiding from being discovered by the PARAtroopers.

If you're like me, you're hungering for more while the author finishes book 2 in the series, and this is a great read, just as wonderful as the full novel. If you're wondering what might make a "normal" decide to hate and target a PARA, read about Becca and find out through her backstory what leads her to lash out at someone with paranormal powers, like Caitlyn's telepathy.

A great read! More, please, Cheryl!

4.0 out of 5 stars Addicting. February 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I got to read a preview of Hunted last night, so when I found this short story that ties in with the novel I was about ready to explode with excitement. I have literally grabbed several of my friends and told them they had to download this kindle edition and read it. It's a short little read but it fills you with angst and excitement from the get go.

I now have a greater understanding as to what and how a Para works, how their sparks are felt, and it's set my imagination to rolling. I can already see Caitlyn being someone I want to see in many different books, series. I cannot wait because this is so amazing to see it on the big screen as a movie. Ala the Minority report. But much more fantastic.

This is seriously one of the best short stories I've read in a very long time. You will not be disappointed with the download.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Well Written Even if It's SHORT! April 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A VERY Short story. Not much to say. Reads like a deleted scene from Hunted.

You might enjoy this if you enjoyed Hunted. OR if you are just thinking about reading Hunted, you might want to pick this up. I was able to get the kindle edition from Amazon for FREE and it included the first six pages of hunted.

More About the Author

"I write the books I needed as a teen and couldn't find." - Cheryl Rainfield

Cheryl Rainfield is the author of the award-winning SCARS, a novel about a queer teen sexual abuse survivor who uses self-harm to cope; the award-winning HUNTED, a novel about a teen telepath in a world where any paranormal power is illegal; the forthcoming STAINED (Nov 2013), about a teen who is abducted and must rescue herself, and PARALLEL VISIONS, about a teen who sees visions of the future--but only when she has an asthma attack. Cheryl Rainfield is an incest and ritual abuse survivor, a feminist, and an avid reader and writer. She lives in Toronto with her little dog Petal.

Cheryl Rainfield has been said to write with "great empathy and compassion" (VOYA) and to write stories that "can, perhaps, save a life." (CM Magazine) SLJ said of her work: "[readers] will be on the edge of their seats."

My fantasy books often hold hope that I need, and feel others might need, too, while reflecting on forms of oppression or pain, while my realistic fiction is gritty, intense, and emotional. All of my books have fragments of the abuse I experienced. I write about some of the harsh things teens go through...things that I think shouldn't be hidden. But I also write about healing, hope, and love, and finding courage and strength.
