Product Description

Product Description

David Macaulay, author of the bestselling The New Way Things Work, has invented a completely new and original way to learn the FUNdamentals of Physics in a program that has become another DK software science classic! Macaulay's totally unique approach to teaching invites students to share in the author's own exuberance and curiosity about the world and how it works. Students will learn about various scientific principles as they go through the Inventor's Log- a fascinating view of the wonders of the world as explained by science. Students then apply their knowledge to become mechanical engineers in this program and actually design and build their own exciting pinball games. Using springs, hot air balloons, gears and more, as they learn more science they gather more and more gadgets they can use in building their games- as the bumpers and obstacles of their game come together, their knowledge of science increases.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This product description is just plain wrong. If you dig around the web, you'll find a site for the current publisher of DK software (Avanquest); their listing claims the platform is everything from Windows 95 through Vista 32-bit, but if you look at the "fine print" under system requirements, it says "NOTE: This version is not for WIN XP."

I purchased this from a seller who very promptly refunded my purchase price, but I would suggest planning to run this on nothing more recent than Windows 98 -- the copyright date is 1998 -- and saving other sellers (and yourself) the trouble.

The concept sounds great, but not being playable except on a decade-old PC is beyond problematic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Di, February 23, 2008
My son loves DK software and books. He is a non-fiction fan. We have already purchased 4 or 5 DK software titles. I don't know how many DK books we own...they are his favorites. I bought this title with another one like it for his 9th birthday. He loves the idea that he can learn why things work and how. I recommend this for your little Einstein.
