4.0 out of 5 stars bright, but needs better mounting method
This is a very bright unit, brighter than most units. Included adapters do allow it to fit over most standard posts, but it slides off too easily.

I read all the reviews on here before I purchased this, and they were very helpful in making the choice of this cap. I wanted to use it to light the single post at the end of our driveway, because driving home on a winter's night it is nearly impossible to see the entrance.

It did appear to be bright enough for my needs, but what they don't tell you in the description is that you are not supposed to use this during winter months. It says in the instructions to remove it during the winter, meaning I have no use for this at all. This probably does not affect those who are using it on a deck or fence, but I think it's a total waste to have something you can't leave out there year-round.

Other comments: The plastic housing is really cheap. The solar panel was cracked when it arrived, although it did not appear to be a result of shipping. It does not mount permanently to the post, could be easily knocked off (or stolen in my case). Once you pull that tag that reveals the batteries, you cannot turn the light off. Even if I had decided to keep it and install in the spring, I would have had to take out the batteries to turn it off until then. Screws are difficult to unscrew because of placement and the cheapness of the plastic they screw into. I imagine that if you took this apart more than a few times, you would not be able to tighten the screws at all.

I am disappointed! I really wanted this to work.

The only good thing is that it did arrive quickly, even though I did use Free shipping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light the night, October 8, 2009

I put two of these solar post top lights at the beginning of a newly refurbished composite covered deck tied to my barn. It is barn red and white, the deck is grey and the railings are white. The lights work really well for seeing the step up in the dark and the glow they provide washes over more of the deck showing off the improvements. They last most of the night though on cloudy days they have a shorter life; but they do always make it through the evening. I saw one similar to this on the cap of a stair rail and really liked what it did. I compared what was available in the big box stores and these are better looking, better built and half the price. They also come with post adaptors for the different size posts used which, in my case, was real valuable. If I find another application I will get more of these.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's OK, but......, April 5, 2010

I get about 6 hours light on a charge.
This last till around midnight or so.
I thought it would have lasted longer but this is good enough most of the time.

What I don't like is when the battery is exhausted the light starts to blink on and off.
This goes on for hours, why can't it just shut off.

Other than that this is a nice looking unit.
I've only had it a week so will have to see how it stands up to weather.
Overall I would buy another one and would recommend to friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Solar Post Cap light, November 16, 2009

I am very satisfied. The copper colored lights look great on my dock posts. At night the walk way of the dock is lit up like a runway. Terrific.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and bright, April 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Unit has a good and bright white light. We have two posts six feet apart and the light illuminates the four steps to the deck.
The lights stay lit for many hours. I have seen them on at 4:30.

5.0 out of 5 stars These really are good!, April 13, 2011

I just ordered some more of these.

I have had about 10 of them on my fence for over 2 years now, and all of them still work wonderfully.

I had some other brand/style ones elsewhere and they died inside of 6 months.

You will also see the same units under the Galaxy name.

They are surprisingly bright, and mine still run all night.

I read commentary about no permanent mount. If you ever need to change the battery, that would not be a good idea. But there is nothing stopping you from running a screw though the base into your post to stop the grab-n-dash thieves. Nobody has messed with mine.

FYI: "HERE" was the best price I found - thank you Amazon!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Accent Light, But Cheap Materials, July 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a really nice accent light, but I would not consider it a particularly bright path light. The unit has worked well for us for the past two weeks and stays on a long time after dark. My main disappointment is the price vs. quality factor. For $32 I expected a better build. This unit is composed of a rigid plastic that I have questions about as far as its long term durability. The post adapters are of the same material and don't really have a way to attach them to the posts aside from setting the unit on top of a post - and drilling a hole in rigid plastic is not an option for me. The light has already been knocked off a couple of times and, fortunately, it is not very high off of the ground and landed in soft dirt or I suspect it would have broken. In short, for a lower price, I would probably add a star, but my perceived value is definitely one of the factors that I consider when rating items.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, September 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As with any outdoor 'solar' item I have tried they seem to work sporadically. The light they produce is questionable. They get plenty of sunlight, so this factor is not in question.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pine Top Solar Post Cap Light, April 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I thought it would cast a little more light. However, it does last all night and is adequate for what I needed.
