Biography

Pinetop Perkins is one of the last great Mississippi bluesmen still performing. He began playing blues around 1927, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest blues pianists of all time. He created a style that has influenced three generations of piano players, and will continue to be the yardstick by which great blues pianists are measured.

Editorial Reviews

From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD

Perkins, an honored blues mastodon, attends to our faculties of sensual delight while seated at the piano in an Austin recording studio or on Antone's' stage at various times over the past several years. His right hand darts at a full gallop while his left pounds unmercifully, heightening the excitement natural to the playing of alley cats like James Cotton, Kim Wilson, and Jimmy Rogers. The version of Eddie Vinson's "Kidney Stew" swings deep and hard. Perkins's singing is sometimes static, sometimes dynamic. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

This review is from: Pinetop's Boogie Woogie (Audio CD)
This CD is an absolute Gem. The amazing blend of these musicians is hard to find in many sessions. This represents the best of all possibilities. Tight, soulful and just plain great tunes. The best Pinetop cd of all time.
