One of the best books on the Pink Floyd live experience !!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pink Floyd: In the Flesh: The Complete Performance History (Paperback)
As a collector of Pink Floyd music this book has become one of my most valued resources. The book has the most accurate information on Pink Floyd's and the solo members live shows and public appearances to date. Each Pink Floyd related event is listed chronologically and most contain the full set list of the show and some include short paragrahps to describe specific happennings at some of the events. I have found that these descriptions very entertaining. The book contains one of the best descriptions of the bands activities before 1967, and very detailed description of the formation of the band beginning as early as occurances in 1962. The biographical account is written well and is enjoyable to read. Packed with lots of information on the band members and their time in Pink Floyd and each of their solo careers. The book is also filled with many high quality pictures, many of which I have never seen before in any other Pink Floyd book realeased to date. The book ends with a short but detailed discography of the band and its solo members works. The book I have is soft back but is still high quality paper and print. Definitly a book for any / every floydian to buy and enjoy. Read it!!!! Shine on.

Time Overdrive & Flying Pigs,

This review is from: Pink Floyd: In the Flesh: The Complete Performance History (Paperback)
Pink Floyd on your record player is one thing but to experience a live Pink Floyd concert is the ultimate E-Ticket thrillride. Concerts from 1962 though to 1994 are described and set lists are included on most shows of this bunch of intersteller star travelers known to earthlings as Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Rick Wright, Roger Waters (and from January 1968 onwards:) David Glimour. The Pink Floyd set out early on to create a larger-than-life experience with their live shows. Visual image was as important to the band as the sound of the affair. A sensual laboratory of light and color explosions and a volcano of sound aimed right at the spectator's brain for maximum damage....This is live Pink Floyd.
The story of the band is told as a backdrop to over thirty years of amazing live shows in this book. Many great color and black and white photos are crammed into these pages as a visual treat for the fan of The Floyd as well. Find out just whom dared to share the billing with Pink Floyd, discover just how it all grew from tiny clubs in London to massive enormodomes of the world and learn in which direction the inflatable pig escaped from it's moorings and was spotted by a commercial jetliner heading into Heathrow International. Pink Floyd is a big rock band, and they grow even bigger when they climb on stage. If you are a fan of this wonderful band and enjoy a behind the scene view if some of the most amazing rock concerts ever performed, this is the perfect book for you. This volume is an excellent account of some of the most fantastic live rock music you will ever read about. Four & 1/2 stars!

Essential aid to collecting Floyd RoIO albums,
By Rik K (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pink Floyd (Hardcover)
If you're a serious fan of early Pink Floyd (pre 1973), chances are that you collect unauthorized concert recordings of the band. This is because they performed a lot of music in very unique versions that still can't be obtained from official sources. This is especially true of Floyd's 1968-72 period. The big problem is in knowing and verifying the basic facts of RoIO albums, such as dates, venues and songs. The world of RoIO albums is marked by a lack of information and much completely wrong information, sometimes deliberately done unfortunately. Many of the same RoIO source recordings are continuously re-named, re-packaged and reissued with differing information, which presents a huge challenge to the collector to avoid getting duplicates or otherwise unwanted albums.
"Pink Floyd: In the Flesh" is an indispensable guide to all the fine details of each Floyd show, from the entire spectrum of their performing career. Besides being fascinating reading, I've found the book invaluable in helping me make sense of the vast number of RoIO albums out there. It's directly helped me make some worthwhile purchases of RoIO albums. For a Floyd concert collector, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. (RoIO = Recording of Indeterminate Origin)

This review is from: Pink Floyd: In the Flesh: The Complete Performance History (Paperback)
This is a great Pink Floyd book. I bought this book and didn't expect much. I read it and it was very good and quite intresting. The pictures are great and if you really want to know all their concert dates it gives all of them. The information they supplied abpout Pink in this book was limited but Pink and the press was limited. So buy the book you might like and you might not like it

Work Experience,
By Tony Emu (Dorset, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pink Floyd: In the Flesh: The Complete Performance History (Paperback)
A truly excellent piece of work. It surely justifies a much higher asking price. However I do wonder how much credit should go to BT for all the generous time they donated to the project. I did not see them listed in the credits for the book. The seven layers were very puzzling, but obviously the authors knew their significance. Overall a very fine complete history of the band

Performance review,
By George Bush (Washington D.C.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pink Floyd: In the Flesh: The Complete Performance History (Paperback)
A truly amazing work obviously written by a true fan with a bad performance review. The statistical effort needs some urgent B2 coaching in order to reach the dizzy heights at the top of the "Group of Six". It seems that the authors have gone the extra mile in order to keep it authentic with a generous amount of time off work donated by their respective employers or was work manager involved? Excellent. |
