Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Released in 1987, this was the first post-Waters era record, and followed a lengthy court battle between the estranged Roger Waters with Dave Gilmour and Nick Mason as they tried to resurrect Pink Floyd from the wreckage that followed The Final Cut. Seen by many as a transitional album Momentary lapse was really the creation of Dave Gilmour as he tried to pull the band back together in a sea of acrimony. It may have received mixed reviews from the critics, but the album went on to hit Quadruple Platinum and created the platform for a hugely successful world tour. With rare archive performance and interview footage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why is there not a Zero star rating?, June 16, 2007
By defilm "defilm" (New York, United States) - See all my reviews
I have always loved Pink Floyd. David Gilmour is in my 5 best/most
talented artists. I own every album, cd, and DVD and other material
I could ever get my hands on. I will buy most anything PF.
I pre-ordered this DVD, so it is too late for me. To make it clear,
this is a movie/documentary of "opinions" with some band footage.
This disk is in my mailed collection of hundreds of "AOL CD's".
I try to write some to give back to all the others that I rely on
to review artists I may be purchasing but be less familiar with.
I will be very careful before I purchase anything "Rock Milestones"
again.
If you are a PF fan, you already love Pulse, and Live
in Pompeii. If you are not a "die hard PF fan" and are looking for
an all around totally enjoyable representation of PF, buy the Pulse
DVD. You get an amazing show on disc 1, and the entire Dark side of the
Moon live on disc 2. PLEASE do not encourage companies that put out
trash like this by purchasing it. I am certain current nor past
artist members of PF had any involvement with the production or sale
of this disk that IMHO would actually be more useful pressed as an AOL disc.

3.0 out of 5 stars drawbacks and benefits, August 30, 2007
By The Delite Rancher (Phoenix, Arizona) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Fans love to hate these album documentaries. Most reviewers seem to torpedo these discs without a viewing. This is surprising given the actual variations of quality between the rockumentaries. Having always appreciated "A Momentary Lapse of Reason," curiosity got the best of me and I invested in this Rock Milestones album review. It is a mixed bag. In terms of drawbacks, it has a mediocre production. The commentary is often punctuated with scenes from the Eurovision broadcast of the 1989 Venetian concert. The transfer looks like it came from somebody's cheap VCR cassette. Equally poor are the music videos and the live scenes that show promotional footage. In fear of being sued, these scenes are always smeared with copyright information. Some of the graphics just show stills. The quality of the commentators is uneven. Some are never identified, most likely because they have no significance within the Floydian universe. In terms of strengths, the program spends the first fifteen minutes on "The Final Cut." Using radio and TV interviews, this part flushes out the story on a poorly understood time period for the band. All of this time with "The Final Cut" establishes the context that would eventually launch another reincarnation. The most interesting interview is a supporting musician from the first tour. He paints all sorts of vignettes of what it was like to be in Pink Floyd during that era. Another strength of the program is a solid retelling of the dynamics surrounding the infamous Venice floating stage benefit. While the video quality is weak, the audio quality is excellent. It even plays in surround sound with subtitles in six languages. This Rock Milestones production has drawbacks, but it's worth a watch for those Floydians who enjoy "A Momentary Lapse of Reason."

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT A CONCERT!, August 8, 2007
The reviewer who commented that this is a great concert is mistaking this with a video release of 'Delicate Sound Of Thunder'.
This DVD is a documentary and probably not worth your time.

1.0 out of 5 stars This should be a ZERO rating
The best review posted by Alan F. Knox means that he never watched the DVD before he wrote his review. There really isn't a complete song performance by Pink Floyd on this DVD. Read more
