4.0 out of 5 stars It will definitely get your heart pumping
I just purchased the jump snap and I am pleased with the product. I'm a 43 year old male and I need to get in shape. The 8 minute workout was not so easy, but I was doing some of it at my own slower pace. The product is a good aerobic workout without the clumsy tripping of real rope jumping. I plan to use this every day to get in shape and lose weight. I like the...

I actually like this product. The only thing missing when you buy from Amazon instead of direct from their site, is the 16 minute DVD. But this comes with the 8 minute and the 12 minute workouts on one DVD.I bought it to change up my cardio as the treadmill was getting kind of stale. I normally do 45 minutes on the treadmill, so I thought doing the 8 & 12 back to back wouldn't really be a big deal. Wrong!! The 8 minute kinda kicked my butt! AND there are breaks every 2 minutes along the way! I think it's going to be a least a week or so before I tackle the 12 minute one, let alone doing them both back to back. So as far as the workout, I don't think you will be disappointed. Now for the prodution value.... it isn't bad......but seriously, the music, for me was pathetic. After listening to the great music to workout to with TurboJam(which I love) this sounded like bad porn music to me. But..there is a timer/counter clock as the workout progresses, so once you get used to the jump routines, you can always hit mute and listen to your own music. I only wish the camera had wide shots of them jumping so you can see the next moves and not lose rhythm. For some reason the camera likes to get the lead jumper from the waist up.. and then close ups of the footwork (which after a while of watching feet move like that, it becomes surreal). If you read their site, then you know what the product can do. It was easy set-up. Just make sure you have a tiny screwdriver to unscrew the part for the batteries and you are set to go. I hope the manufacture takes this advice and makes some better workout DVD's as this can really be a great way to get in shape. I would recommend it.

I like the fact that it's portable and can be done anywhere. This will be a daily part of my workout. I also lke the fact that you don't have to spend a lot of time, in order to get your heart pumping. I know in a perfect world you want to get in an hour of exercise a day, but the way I look at it with products like the Jump Snap and the Body Blade which I have been using for years are a great way to get your daily workout in half the time and still get in some exercise instead of doing nothing. For instance, I like to watch T.V., so I would pick up the jump snap and do it while watching my favoriate t.v. show. I get the benefits of watching my T.V. and getting some exercise in also. For the new year I plan on being a health couch potato.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convenient, July 7, 2008

I would like to begin by saying that I had reserves about this product - I didn't think it would be that much different from a regular jump rope - at least not $50 different. So I purchased the product on the pretense that I could always return it. Well, I haven't returned it and I use it everyday! I can jump rope inside while watching a dvd or listening to music (without an mp3 player) and I don't have to worry about hitting anything or knocking anything over.

To address a couple of things:
#1) You probably should find a low-intensity exercise if jumping rope hurts your joints. Possibly water aerobics or even regular aerobics - certainly not running or jumping. Do not blame this product for your joint injuries.
#2) When I first started using the jumpsnap, my left ball bounced around aimlessly, like many other users. There is a trick to getting both balls to spin at the same time and in perfect circles. With a regular jump rope you use just your wrists to spin the rope - this isn't necessary with the jumpsnap. If you keep your arms almost still and jump, and with the slightest effort move the handles in teeny circles, they'll spin correctly. This also provides a better upper-body workout than a regular jump rope.
#3) I'm not sure if JumpSnap, LLC has changed the design since many have commented, but the little balls are protected by a foam shell - not how it's shown in the picture. I haven't gotten smacked by them yet - I don't stop suddenly though. But the foam seems to have been added to prevent this.

Overall, I wish it didn't cost $50 - I would price it at $20 - but it is worth it to purchase, so long as you use it. Jumping rope is great exercise and perfect for people who don't have all the time in the world! Happy jumping!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but do you really need it?, May 8, 2008
This review is from: Pink JumpSnap, The Ropeless Jump Rope - Calorie Counter, DVD Workouts, Hand Weights, & Travel Bag (Pink) (Misc.)
I ordered this product because I wanted a different type of cardio workout. I am bored with the treadmill and elliptical. Jumping rope is definitely an excellent workout and being able to simulate the action and take advantage of the benefits in relatively small places is a cool idea. So, JumpSnap gets a lot high reviews, I figured I'd try it. But honestly, I got the product, tried the workout DVDs and yes, the workout was great but, I could have done it without using the handles. There really is no way the counter is accurate and the simulated rope sound isn't all that great. It's a good prop but really.. You can get a good Rope Workout video and when you can't actually use a regular rope, (like indoors in a small area), just "pretend" to use a rope. You will probably have the same results and save some $$ too. I returned the product... still waiting for my refund though. :-(

5.0 out of 5 stars Many worthwhile advantages to the "ropeless jump rope", May 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pink JumpSnap, The Ropeless Jump Rope - Calorie Counter, DVD Workouts, Hand Weights, & Travel Bag (Pink) (Misc.)
Boy, the reviews on this product are really mixed, and after using it for nearly 3 weeks, I thought I had something worthwhile to add.

First of all, jumping rope is a great workout. All sorts of athletes, both professional, and amateur jump rope as a fast, easy way to increase cardio endurance.

Okay, that may be true, but why JumpSnap? What's the advantage to a ropeless jumprope?

My brother recommended jumping rope to me as a way to get fitter, but there is one big, or should I say, low problem. The ceiling height in my house is too low to jump rope indoors. That limits my ability to practice this form of fitness to days with good weather; basically, the summer months where I live.

Enter JumpSnap. Without the rope, I can practice jumping rope inside my house all year. Even if I did have high ceilings, I do a bit of traveling and the JumpSnap ensures I can continue my workout even if I'm in a hotel room with low ceilings.

Another benefit to ropeless jumping is that you don't trip over the rope. My 7 year old daughter had no interest in jumping rope last year as she couldn't coordinate the movements properly and found it too frustrating to continue. With the JumpSnap, she can jump with ease, and her confidence and coordination are growing.

A few reviewers felt that this product is just "bells and whistles" and you can get an equally good workout by just pretending to jump rope. That may be true, but that doesn't appeal to me at all. For any exercise to succeed, the athlete must have the motivation to perform the plan. In a way, the tech-y aspects of this product really do motivate me to jump more. Maybe someone else wouldn't feel silly jumping up and down while pretending to jump rope, but for me, hearing the "swoosh-swoosh" and knowing that the JumpSnap is keeping track for me, or timing me (you can set a target time or jump number,) really helps keep me on track.

Another additional benefit of the JumpSnap, is that you can add weights to the handles to increase the intensity of the workout. My husband, who is much more athletic than I am, prefers to use it with the weights. I look forward to keeping the challenge up as I progress.

My husband, daughter and I really enjoy the DVD. I actually thought it would just be jumping rope, and was pleasantly surprised that there are so many variations you can do in 8 minutes. You really get a good workout in that time. Having a workout to follow also helps with the motivation. Days that I don't follow the DVD workout, I tend to only jump for about 2-3 minutes, quickly getting bored.

We actually enjoyed this product so much, we bought a second one, in blue, for my husband, so that the two of us can workout at the same time. (You can set two users for the JumpSnap, recording your weight and height - it will calculate the number of calories burned). We noticed that the Blue JumpSnap cost about $10 more than the Pink. It turns out it has several workouts, that are very different from the Pink's workouts, with much more variety in them. Well worth it. For me, as a beginning athlete, I think the pink 8, 12 and 16 minute workouts are a good starting point.

I bought this product on a whim. I guess thats how they sell most of them.
While its a great product with all the bells and whistles, essentially its not required to simply jump on the spot. You can do that alone and save the money.

This item is definitely worth the investment! I can follow the dvd workout in my kitchen with very little space while I am cooking dinner! The beginner workout is quite a challenge so far, so I can only imagine how hard the Intermediate is! It sounds like a silly idea but it is just what I needed to motivate me! Worth every penny!

This is a great way to work out, and it really works me out!! It gets my heart rate going, and because I don't have to worry about actually jumping *over* a rope, it's easy on my knees. The handles are comfortable to hold, the written instructions are clear, and the DVD is great! The first part of the DVD explains more thoroughly how to use the JumpSnap, and shows examples of the proper way of jumping. Then come the workouts! Admittedly, I'm out of shape (which is to change soon, I'm sure!) but I haven't completed the 8 minute work out yet! They do the work out for 2 minutes, then have a "water break", then work out for another 2 minutes, and so on. I get more out of 4 minutes with the JumpSnap than I do with 30 minutes of walking (even on the treadmill). I highly reccomend the JumpSnap!

I use the Jumpsnap several times a week to add cardio to my workouts. I love that I can do it with or without the dvd. Sometimes I do it along with the dvd after my other workout. Or I take it to work to do a few minutes on my breaktime. It is VERY easy to figure out. It really tracks your jumps effectively and I like the voice option too.
Thanks Jumpsnap for creating a great product.
