Editorial Reviews

2008 sophomore album from the Scottish singer/songwriter. The Pink &The Lily is an album that charts Sandi's growth as a singer and as a young woman with tracks tackling deep subjects such as global warming and the corporate career path to more jovial subjects like partying too hard; a subject that spawned the song 'Saturday Night' after her Manager thought she was partying and drinking too much! The classic yet contemporary sounding record is drenched in nostalgia with a recurrent theme of a less complicated life when times were easier, like the golden age of movies on 'The Last Picturehouse' and her own childhood on 'Mirrors'. The first single from the album; the funky, zydeco influenced 'The Devil's Beat', is Sandi Thom at her best. The song, despite its upbeat tempo, is actually about one of the more serious themes on the album; global warming. RCA.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up, August 17, 2008
This review is from: Pink & The Lily (Audio CD)
I loved Sandi's first CD, which I picked up after I heard "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker" in Starbucks. Of the many songs on there, only one didn't really grab me. Here, on her follow up CD, it's a similar story. I don't feel that I've been grabbed by as many songs as the first, but when she does connect, I'm hooked.

My favorite track is "Last Picture House". Tells a nice story. Devil's Beat, Saturday Night, Beatbox, and Remote Control Me are 5 star songs for me.

There are no bad songs, from either CD, in my opinion. Just some are better than others. It was worth paying a few dollars extra for the import. I'm glad I made that decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Ol' Poppiness, January 17, 2011

Similar in tune with her first album, SMILE IT CONFUSES PEOPLE, it feels like Sandi Thom brings old school good-hearted pop back from the days that were AMERICAN BANDSTAND. The album reminds me of people happily dancing in the streets without a care in the world. To me, it's catchy and jolly -- enjoyable music with rockin' beat. However, to some... it may seem too old school (as my friend commented to me while I had it playing in the car). If you enjoyed her first album, you'll be sure to enjoy this second.

I loved Sandi's first album "Smile...It Confuses People" but I think this album is even better. The songs are a slightly different style, which I like, and the mood is overall nostalgic, like the first album, which I love. The tracks have catchy beats and amazing lyrics, and there isn't a bad track on the album, although I do find "Human Being" a little irritating at times.
Overall, a great album from a great artist that should get much more publicity here in the States than she does.
