Book Description

An invitation for every woman who’s ever felt like she isn’t good enough, pretty enough, saved enough, content enough or doing enough.

Like millions of women, Heather Lindsey wanted to have it all together. But as life continued to go on, she found herself searching to fill her insecurities with temporary voids and ended up broken, rejected, exhausted and frustrated. Desperate to let God change her from the inside out—she shares her story, struggles and triumphs as she went from having Pink Lips & an Empty Heart to having Pink Lips and a Heart that is completely surrendered to God.

In a society where women are encouraged to portray a certain self-image, Heather challenges women in saying that it is not enough to just get dressed up and portray a “perfect appearance” when deep down, you’re empty. As a result, we try hide who we really are from everyone, including God.

Join Heather Lindsey as she offers witty, fresh advice that you would expect from your best friend over dinner. Compassionate and practical, Pink Lips & An Empty Heart is a step-by-step guide that teaches women how to:

• Be content whether they are single or married
• How to develop a deep, intimate relationship with Christ
• Resist the desire to compare your life to others
• Prioritize their day to day life busy schedule
• Develop in the gifts that God placed inside of you
• BONUS: Practical tips on hair, beauty and other money saving resources

About the Author

HEATHER LINDSEY is the wife to Cornelius Lindsey, author, first lady, speaker and mother of one. She founded Pinky Promise, an organization that promotes abstinence in singleness and submission in marriage. She relentlessly teaches women that their value and worth comes from Christ and nothing else. Founder, Heather challenges teens, young adults and women to rise above cultural pressures and to stay determined to live for Christ regardless of their circumstances. Facing consequences women in previous generations couldn’t imagine, ladies receive straight talk from Heather on how to say no in a yes society. Today, Heather and her husband Cornelius live in Atlanta, GA where they have established a church and a evangelistic ministry called The Gathering Oasis.

Cons:
Like another reviewer, I was surprised that some chapters of the book were Heather's blog posts word for word. I would have been extremely disappointed with this had I purchased the book, but as an Amazon Prime member, I was eligible to read this book for free on my Kindle. With the verbatim blog posts, I'm happy I did not pay to read this. Also, I was struck by the many mechanical (grammar & punctuation) errors. While this may not be an issue to some, the quality of any work is most certainly affected by its attention to (or lack thereof) to grammar and mechanics.

Pros:
In spite of these two "cons," the book was a lovely read. I believe one reviewer said it was like drinking a nice green smoothie or tea--one that cleanses and refreshes you. Indeed, I agree. It was written in a "Hey girl, let me chat with you tone," and on the one hand, that could come off as patronizing, but Heather has always presented herself as a sister to those who follow her and her husband's ministry on Facebook, through her blog, and through PP. In this regard, the "Hey girl" tone is totally appropriate.

Suggestions:
I would actually champion Heather to create a second edition to the book for three reasons. The first reason, of course, would be to have an editor look over the mechanical errors. The second reason is to extend the chapters that are verbatim blog posts. The third reason is to include discussion questions or "end of chapter" summary information. This book seems like a nice book to read either in a Pinky Promise Book Club, a single's ministry, married women's ministry, or general women's ministry at a church.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing... January 2, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was a little disappointed only because I've read all of Mrs. Lindsey's blogs and I was expecting more. Some chapters are literally blog posts word for word. There's a bit more material here and there. Nonetheless, it's good to have it all in one publication and I'm sure many women will find areas speaking to them.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Pink Lips and Empty Hearts July 19, 2013

I decided to read this book because of a friend of mine. We are both at a time in our lives where we turn to younger adult women to help guide our steps in the dating world. I was aware the book would be more conservative since it would be coming from a Christian standpoint, but I didn't think it would be as - for lack of a better word - radical as it was. I really appreciated all of her messages and the different perspectives she gave, but I think it was hard to relate to. I think Heather Lindsey has a phenomenal testimony, but shared it in a way where it was hard for others in different situations could not completely relate to her. Also, just from a "writer's" standpoint, I didn't love her delivery method. There were some big mistakes and the organization and rhetoric, in my opinion, really took away from her appeal. She came off as condescending at times, instead of as "telling the ugly truth" and being uplifting, and a lot of her messages were scattered. For instance, I wish she took her time relating the purpose of the book to the title, to give it more meaning. It seemed rushed and not well thought-out. However, there was a lot of positive things I took from it and it did help change my perspective on a lot of things I was confused about. I would recommend this book to women, preferably those in their the mid- to late-twenties. Whoever reads this, just read it with an open mind. If you look past the errors and mishaps, you'll find some valuable, mind-changing substance. Hopefully, she will write more later on with new experiences, both in her life and as a writer.

Hope this was helpful!

Heather did a great job using her life as an example to anyone to be the virtuous woman they are called to be. Even in the midst of failures mistakes or inability Heather teaches woman to pour out their heart to God to change circumstances and receive the fellowship He always intended us to walk in.

I read this book twice as not to be biased based on other people's reviews. It's hard to share an honest review of this book without facing some form of backlash because social media using women all but worship Mrs. Lindsey. But I've never been one to fear the opinion of humans, so here's a list of my pros and cons:

Pros: it's an easy read, you can read it in it's entirety in a day or two. The content is good, she uses scripture to back up a lot of her preferences. I liked the single mother piece that her friend contributed to the book.

Cons: although the content is good, it's too much for one book. At the beginning we were talking about Christ, by the end we were discussing hair and flea market finds--some things just seemed out of place. She rambled quite a bit throughout the book, and her tone was kind of youthful (it reminded me of the ramblings of Lindsey Isham in No Sex in the City). I didn't agree with everything and some of her viewpoints were comical.

All in all, it was okay. I would probably recommend it to young girls.

3.0 out of 5 stars Valuable Read August 25, 2013
By I. Day
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book provided some valuable advice for young women. My expectations of this book was that it would offer encouraging words and advice to help a single young woman feel secure in her singleness, however the book was focused on how one should carry herself with the male race. With that said, although the book didn't focus on what I thought it would, I still appreciated the advice offered. Good self help book.
