5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value! Fast Service! Seeds Germinated Already!!
I decided to try these seeds and grow my own Ornamental Grass because I just didn't want to pay $15 plus $7 shipping/handling for a small live Pampas plant in a little-bitty 3inch pot from one of the larger mail-order nurseries. I actually bought 5 varieties of ornamental grass seeds thinking that I'd be very happy if just 3 or 4 actually grew. WOW! I planted the seeds...

1.0 out of 5 stars Pink Pampas Grass 200 Seeds
We live in area #4 for growing plants. I planted these seeds separately in a special seed bed, with excellent topsoil and watered well. None of the seeds germinated.

WOW! I planted the seeds and was very surprised and happy when just 3 days later I had little sprouts in 4 of my 5 planters. The other one took a few days longer to come up but it's doing great, too! I actually only planted 1/2 of the seeds because I decided to save back some to try with again if my first attempt failed. I was also very happy with the service from Hirt's. My seeds arrived quickly and were labeled with basic, easy planting instructions.

Update (almost a year later)- It's been a very hot, dry summer here in East Texas this year. My ornamental grass is looking good and growing.

Only 2 out of 200 germinated. Poor quality. See other seed reviews on this seller - many buyers have complained about germination.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please don't buy!, October 19, 2010
This review is from: Pink Pampas Grass 200 Seeds - Cortaderia
Please don't buy or propagate this or any Cortaderia species esp. if you live on the West Coast or anywhere with relatively cool, damp weather some of the year. It's extremely invasive, choking out native habitats, and costing land management agencies, cumulatively, millions of dollars to remove once it spreads into natural areas. Cortaderia species can produce 2 million wind-dispersed seeds per plant and don't need to be pollinated to germinate. Sooner or later, one of those seeds is going to end up where it shouldn't be.

Please talk to your native plant society or local land management agency to find non-destructive alternatives. Thanks for gardening responsibly.

This species will take over. It is difficult to remove. It was introduced by CalTrans from Argentina to support banks and prevent erosion. It is a pest in N. America.

I guess I would need to wait for them to grow, however, I need to say before that the packaging was terrible, as I opened the box, I guess I lost almost 20% of the seeds. They come in a regular enevelope, so the seeds come out easily... not cool.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Germination but Wrong Plant, January 18, 2012
This review is from: Pink Pampas Grass 200 Seeds - Cortaderia
I purchased pink pampas grass seeds 2 years ago from Hirts Gardens. I wanted to add this unusual color to my landscaping. Started them indoor in green house and mostly all seeds germinated. (I would say 95%) Used a seed starter kit and once the plants grew to 2" high transplanted to ˝ gallon pots and moved outdoors in semi-shaded area through the summer. Plants grew to 18" high then transplanted in yard in the fall. Now 2 years later was very disappointed to see they are not pink at all. They all are plain white pamas grass. I would not have wasted so much time and money to pamper these for the last 2 years if I would have know they were not pink..
Very Disapointed: GrandLake

I WISH I COULD GIVE YOU A FULL REVIEW BUT I CAN NOT DUE TO MY HUSBAND PASSING AWAY AND ME NOT GETTING TO PLANT EITHER ONE OF THESE PLANTS I ORDERED YET. HE REALLY LIKED THE PINK PAMPAS GRASS AS I DID BECAUSE IT REMINDED US OF WHENEVER WE WOULD GO TO MYRTLE BEACH AND STAY AT THE CONDO OR WALK ALONG THE BEACH. REALLY LOVE TO LOOK @ IT AS THE WIND BLOWS AND IT SWAYS IN THE WIND. THANKS, msjudi
