4.0 out of 5 stars Where's Fran?
I love the music on this album - classic Henry Mancini that perfectly evokes the 1960s madcap comedy sensibilities of the film - but where's Fran Jeffries? My personal favorite bit in the film is the scene where the lovely Fran Jeffries sings "It Better Be Tonight" - but that song is not included on the album! 1.0 out of 5 stars Pink Panther diehards only
It comprises the main titles of Trail of the Pink Panther and A shot in the Dark, otherwise I can't think of a reason why you should buy it. If you're not a huge Pink Panther fan stay away from this one.

My personal favorite bit in the film is the scene where the lovely Fran Jeffries sings "It Better Be Tonight" - but that song is not included on the album! Henry Mancini's orchestra and chorus go a great job on the song - but the lack of Fran's voice on the album keeps it from getting that 5th star.

5.0 out of 5 stars All of The Pink Panther's Greatest Hits on one CD, April 15, 2000

The very notion that the best music from the series is available on one album is appealing; the fact that the cuts on the album are some of Henry Mancini's best works bears this out. This collection is fantastic! The presence of the theme to "A Shot In The Dark" alone is worth the price of the disc. Forget the movie, but get this disc!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathless in North Kingstown, January 17, 2001
This review is from: Pink Panther (Audio CD)
I have this sound track on vinyl which I purchased in 1964 after having seen the movie two nights in a row at the drive-in! The grooves are no longer visible from playing it so often. The CD is MAGNIFICENT. The music is breathtaking and timeless. It conjures up all the feelings my zany, innocent 15-year old self experienced when I first heard it. Watching David Niven attempting to seduce Claudia Cardinale while she lies on a bear skin rug in front of the fireplace, drunk on champagne is an image I will never forget and listening to the "Royal Blue" cut brings the moment back in waves. How I longed to be her. The sophistication of the characters (discounting whacky Peter Sellers - my favorite comedic actor) is outmatched by the sophistication and sensuousness of Henry Mancini's beautiful score. This is a CD that should be played over and over and over again on a dark, romantic night with at least three bottles of champagne on hand. If you don't have a companion to do it with - do it for yourself and let your imagination take over. I cannot express my love and appreciation for the music on this CD enough! I could, I suppose, live without "The Tiber Twist", but it was part of the era and the CD would not be complete without it. There is not a song on this CD that is not fabulous. Buy it - without hesitation! You'll thank me, yourself and, most of all, Henry Mancini!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Than Just the Theme, October 28, 2002
This review is from: Pink Panther (Audio CD)
This disc is great. Straight through sparkling easy listening tracks. Best of the genre. Except for the last track, #12, which is just a throw away novelty number, appropriate in the context of the film, but a bit distracting on the album.
