5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book
Nigel has a wonderfully entertaining way of describing the principles of glamour photography. I think it is a little overpriced but I would buy it again at the same price. He covers ideas about cropping, dances, proper dressing, men's mag poses, hand position, movement, newspaper posing, props, seaside posing, tight clothing lens choice, the "s" bend, using a subjects...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money.
For almost $20 I expected a lot more than this tiny book, which contains mostly common sense advice that even amature photographers should already know.

Some folks complain about paying $20 for a book that's relatively small in physical size, but it's not the quantity of the info that you're paying for, it's the quality, and the value is there.

As a relatively experienced people photographer, one of the things I have really grown to understand is that the art of posing other people, learning to tell them how to move and how to hold their bodies, is a distinct art in and of itself. It's no less challenging than learning about the basics of photography and the physics of lighting.

This book's focus is on glamor photography mostly, so the emphasis is on women's bodies and how to pose and compose them for maximum appeal to the viewer and also the editor if they're going to be put into publication.

The writing style is simple, whimsical and straightforward. The images are entirely cartoonish, but this is strategically effective. It's easy to show the drawings to a model as an example of what you're after and have them understand, because they're not looking at a photo of some glamorous model and thinking to themselves, "Oh, I could never look like that!" The drawings are non-threatening, unintimidating to models and easy to understand.

I don't have much room to carry books around in my camera bag, but this is one that has found a place there.

Even though this book is written by a Brit and displays the singular humor Brits are famous for, this is one of the best posing guides for glamour and boudoir photography that I have come across. Add to that the very amusing line drawings the author has done to illustrate the "rules" he lays down and you have a very fun way to have your imagination and creativity piqued.

I have even shown the book to a couple of models that I was shooting and we were having a hard time with posing ideas and the results were amazing! Their own creativity was jump-started and the poses began to flow.

I recently was searching for a memorable and descriptive book on posing models. Posing handbooks seem to be exercises in self congratulation or poorly organized for showing effective positioning. What worse is most I've read aren't memorable. The Pink Pocket Poser book offered a humorous and very clear summary of all the do's and don't for glamour model photography. This book makes the task of setting position and using props easy with sketches and cartoons. It's something I now study up on before each model shoot.

Great book, very easy to use. It is written sequencially and has lots of hints, tips, and things to avoid. The poses are cartoon type and very easy to duplicate. Good stuff.

Although some may be turned off by the cartoon-ish type drawnings, they are actually quite practical... leaving you to get the pose right for the particular model and not 'copying' the authors pic.
Mainly the book is simple, to the point, and gives some great advice on topics which often go unnoticed. Like how to position hands, feet..etc.
If you shoot models or portraits this a nice handy little book to throw in your bag. Great to let the model browse through too... just watch they don't steal it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Despite its name, a good guide!, January 8, 2011

This review is from: The Pink Pocket Poser: The Glamour Photographers Posing Guide (Paperback)
I reluctantly purchased this book when I first started shooting glamour models because a photographer I admire said it was funny. It is, in a very corny, dirty old man sort of way.

But I was surprised at all the really useful info that is packed in this ridiculously titled pocket book. REALLY useful information that I haven't found anywhere else. It is obvious that Nigel has a ton of experience shooting glamour models, and he shares the basic mistakes not to make. The chapters on "Tight Clothing" and "Handy Hints" would have saved me many hours had I read them before I started snapping photos. And the chapter "Valuable Vowels" has helped me get the right look out of many a model.

If you aren't offended by silly, hugely endowed cartoon models and dirty old man jokes, I highly recommend this book.

If you are easily offended, or are looking for a more conventional posing guide, try my other favorite... "Posing Techniques" by Billy Pegram.

I've never reviewed anything on Amazon before but this little book impressed me! I was a little hesitant to purchase it a few years ago because it's cartoonish, but earlier this week I made the decision to go through with it. The drawings of the sample poses are simple and to the point which makes it a great reference before a shoot. While the text may seem to be geared a little more towards novice photographers, it is most useful as a refresher. Nigel also keeps the book light-hearted and entertaining which makes it a pleasure to read through!

If you're looking for a novel-length book on glamour posing this one will disappoint you. However, if you want something simple to spark some creativity and give you quick posing ideas when you're brain stops working, I'd give this little book two thumbs up!

This book explain the basics of glamour photography in a fast way with a lot of drawings. I find this far more instructive than many books with plenty of phothos and nothing about "how to". Very nice work Mr. Nigel Holmes!

Ordering one wasn't enough, I ended up ordering a second for a fellow photographer who saw mine and just had to have one. Great little book that goes everywhere in my camera bag.
