Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2-Gilbert's pesky loose tooth comes out on the playground during a kickball game. He thinks it is safely tucked into his pocket and looks forward to his visit from the tooth fairy. Unfortunately, there's a hole in his pocket. Lewis, another opossum in his class, finds the tooth and puts it in his own pocket. While getting ready for bed, Gilbert makes the heartbreaking discovery and Mom suggests writing a note to the tooth fairy explaining the events of the day. Meanwhile, Lewis proudly puts the tooth under his pillow, thinking he will trick the tooth fairy. This easy reader has three short chapters with charming half- and full-page illustrations. The digitally created art has watercolor enhancements. In the second book, Pinkalicious reveals her love of soccer and the wonderful pink soccer ball she received from her dad. Her team name is the Pinksters and, at the latest game, the team is losing, even with the pink ball. Their opponents are the Ravens (dressed in black, of course). Nothing is going right for the team until Goldilicious (the unicorn) sweeps Pinkalicious away from the field and takes her on a quick world tour to observe girls playing soccer in Egypt, Spain, China, and Italy. She gleans enough information to help the Pinksters win the game. The illustrations are bright and appealing. The descriptive language is rhythmical and full of wordplay. Kann's computer-generated collage pictures are bold and appealing and will draw readers into the story. Beginning readers with a passion for pink will want to add this one to their pinktastic list.-Janene Corbin, Rosebank Elementary School, Nashville, TN α(c) Copyright 2011. From the Back Cover

Pinkalicious and the Pinksters are losing the match! Riding on the back of her unicorn, Goldilicious, Pinkalicious travels the world meeting soccer-playing girls who inspire her to save the game.

My girls are big fans of Pinkalicious and we have purchased every book. I really mean every book. This story is about Pinkalicious playing on a soccer team named the Pinksters, and they are playing a game against the Ravens. Unfortunately, this story brings back some of the negativity we have seen in other Pinkalicous books. The girls on the Ravens team keep yelling "Pink Stinks". Not my favorite part. Well the game goes along and the teams end up tied. Pinkalicous is getting ready to try to score to prove that Pink is great and all of the sudden, Goldilicous the unicorn shows up and sweeps her off into the sky and then they stop at a bunch of random countries talking to various people. She eventually returns to score the winning goal, but that little fantasy journey in the middle just didn't really make much sense at all. Very bizarre.

All that being said, my girls love it as a bedtime story and my kindergartner does great with it as an early reader. They would probably rate it higher, but there are better Pinkalicous books out there. Try out Pinkalicious: Fairy House. It is great.

This Pinkalicious book once again introduces the concept of Kendra, et al saying that "Pink Stinks". I just am not a fan of this repeat story line. It felt old the first time I read it to my daughter. During the soccer game, Pinkalicious is plucked from the field by Goldie the unicorn and flown around the world...really. Come on. I love fantasy, but this one is a pass.

This particular Pinkalicious book is not our family's favorite book in the series. I would rate it on the lower end of the spectrum of Pinkalicious books. There is a sort of random sequence midway through where Pinkalicious is playing soccer around the world that is just kind of weird. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this one- there are far better books in the series.

My youngest girl is a bit of a tomboy and this is her favorite Pinkalicious book. She's been asking me to read it to her every night, so I'd say it's a winner. :)

I bought this as a gift. The parents of the 7 year old and the birthday girl loved it. They made a special effort to thank me for the book above the other gifts I gave.
