AACAP President Endorses Pinky Promise!,
By Richard M. Sarles, MD (Baltimore, Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pinky Promise: A Book About Telling the Truth (Hardcover)
"Pinky Promise" is the newest book in the series "Teach Your Children Well". It is a delightful, believable, realistic tale of Madison's struggle with the truth. With the help of her favorite bear, "Honesty", Madison overcomes the personal pain of telling a lie. This is an ideal book fitting perfectly with the normal four to seven year old child's stage of moral development: the struggle with right and wrong, good and bad, truth and lies. I can't wait to read it to my four-year-old grandson!"

PINKY PROMISE CONVEYS WARMTH AND WISDOM,
By
This review is from: Pinky Promise: A Book About Telling the Truth (Hardcover)
Dr. Braver's book, "Pinky Promise," conveys both warmth and wisdom. I am reading it to my grandchildren and recommending it to my patients. The author's perspective, as both a psychiatrist and parent, provides a foundation for the enchanting characters and story to teach important lessons.

Three cheers for Madison!!,
By
This review is from: Pinky Promise: A Book About Telling the Truth (Hardcover)
What a great book! It's told with such empathy for the child's heart and leaves you wanting more. What other lessons will Madison learn? What other characters, like "Honesty" the bear, will help her on her journey? I can't wait to read the entire "Teach your children well" series.

Child Psychiatrist has created a "MUST READ" Series!,
By Dr. Elizabeth Berger (Elkins Park, PA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pinky Promise: A Book About Telling the Truth (Hardcover)
"Pinky Promise" is Vanita Braver MD's first children's book in the nine picture book "Teach Your Children Well" series. The series entertains and reassures children that they are loved and supported as they undergo impish real-life crises, and in addition--no small feat in itself--helps parents model their own mature responses to their children's mischief. The stories are sweetly amusing as adventures, but educational too as illustrations of the dilemmas and temptations that are part of every child's day. What is especially wise and consoling is the author's emphasis that moral trouble and moral redemption are not abstract commandments but aspects of living, intimate relationships. By placing human devotion and honesty at the center of ethical dramas, this series helps readers open their hearts to greater communication and trust between parent and child.

A "Pilgrim's Progress" for the under-eight set,
By Marlene Browne (East Coast) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pinky Promise: A Book About Telling the Truth (Hardcover)
"Pinky Promise" is a superb parable from a writer who has the credentials to become one of the most significant authors of children's books in the 21st century. Vanita Braver, MD, is not only a talented child psychiatrist with the professional training to tackle all kinds of child development issues; but she's also a mom who has the insight and hands-on experience to create a tale that will entertain your child as he or she comes to understand why it's always best to "do the right thing." Reading about the protagonist, Madison, a six-year-old girl, her parents, her pal, Emily, and Madison's special stuffed animal friends: Wisdom the Owl; Honesty the Bear; Courage the Lion; and Hope the Bluebird, your child will learn, as Madison does, what's right from wrong, and why the difference matters. And, if that's not enough, the text is illustrated with delightful images that will charm a child of any race, creed, or gender. Your youngster is sure to want to read this wonderful book with you over and over, until the next volume in Dr. Braver's Teach Your Children Well series is published.

Wonderful teaching tool!,

This review is from: Pinky Promise: A Book About Telling the Truth (Hardcover)
I purchased this book because I was having a difficult time explaining to my daughter, who is 6, exactly what the word lying meant. She was adopted from China at the age of 4, and while she is doing very well with English, she still gets confused on occasion with different terms, phrases, etc. This book was perfect!!! I also have a five year old daughter. It was amazing because the girls' names in the book were the same names as my daughters! Yes, the girls loved that. The book was short, sweet and to the point. It keeps your child's interest and is a story they will enjoy reading over and over again.

Pinky Promise finds that while five-year-old Madison didn't mean to break the camera, she still didn't want to get in trouble for it, so she lied when her mom asked what happened. But then she began to feel guilty, her stomach hurts and she can't eat. But with the help of her parents and her favorite stuffed bear, little Madison learns how much better it feels to be honest.

A great book to share with your little ones - my 3 year old and I started "pinkies honor" or "pinkies promise" and this helps explain the concept of telling the truth. Great book, great photos, and easy to read and understand for the little ones!
