Pigs in Space!!!,
This review is from: Pinky & Stinky (Paperback)
Stinky and Pinky are piglet-astronauts headed for Pluto when they accidentally crash on the Moon. Fortunately for them it's the future and earthlings are already busy drilling holes and looking for resources. The piglets approach the men only to be greeted on the one hand, and spurned on the other.
This same reaction summarizes the humans approach to the Moon people they run across. THE SKINNY::: Large black and white drawings in a simple format that kids like. The text is large, although the sources say that the book is at the 4th grade level. My 3rd Grade boy likes the book well enough. Although I should note that unlike Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy kid, Stinky and Pinky didn't cause him to roll around on the floor laughing. Adults might read it once, but the plotline will be familiar if you've watched or read any old scifi. I liked that there was actually some thought-provoking stuff in this book. The mean, prejudiced astronaut ought to give children something to think about. I'd recommend the book for older elementary aged kids. Pam T~ mom/blogger

Due to an unfortunate accident (which is Stinky's fault, at least according to Pinky) piglet astronauts Stinky and Pinky fail in their mission to get to Pluto and instead crash land on the moon. There they face discrimination from the human astronauts, but find that kindness ultimately saves the day. A cute and easy to read comic for all ages.

I bought this book last year for my then 5 year old son. He loved this book so much it was incredible. He re-read it more times than I could count and still keeps it beside his bed. Everything about the book was fun - story, graphics, format. I can't believe I haven't bought another one of his books yet.

disappointed,

I wish I could see in "Pinky and Stinky" what other reviewers appear to, but I can't.
Given that the book seems aimed at young elementary school children, it is particularly regrettable that both pigs and humans frequently name-call, referring to one another as "idiot" and "stupid". Ihe characters don't really have any character, the humor is clumsy, and the plot makeshift at best. Also, there are misspellings (of the words shameful, murmur, and laser)which will mislead kids and make adults wonder why this book wasn't more carefully edited. High quality graphic novels can really reach young readers and offer both terrific stories and artwork. "Pinky and Stinky" disappointed on all fronts, and I'm sending my copy back.
