5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sub. Wow!!
I've recently purchased the Pinnacle 10" sub to replace the existing 7" Aiwa sub that I had for dozen plus years. It's not fair to compare the two units, but the 10" just blows it away. Even with the volume at mid setting, it's plenty loud for the home theater system in my family room (approx 15x25 ft). 200W is plenty plenty! Sound is very very full, without any...

3.0 out of 5 stars ???
I am not sure about this subwoofer. It often seems to sound "mushy" but sometimes it definitely shakes the room. I got it during the Amazon holiday sale so it was a very good price. Then I noticed over the next 3 weeks Amazon lowered its "regular" price about $200.00 in small steps and then added $100.00 back to it. It is still selling at about $375.00. Also, it has hard...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sub. Wow!!, December 11, 2010

Sound is very very full, without any distortions. Overall workmanship is very good, brass feet is a nice touch (for obvious audio purposes). On the back of the sub, there's only frequency control, level control, and phase switch. Please note that there's only the RCA plug for Subwoofer (LFE) connection. It won't work out of the box, unless your audio system has direct subwoofer connection. As for me, I've upgraded my stereo with AV Receiver (Onkyo TX-SR508) as my stereo did not have LFE output.

I've also contacted Pinnacle and rec'd immediate response. If there's any issues in the future, I would expect very good service from the manufacturer.

I would recommend this sub to anyone looking for a great subwoofer!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Pinnacle of Bass!, October 18, 2010
This review is from: Pinnacle Speakers SUB-SONIX 10-200 10-Inch 200 Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am a fully qualified Electronics Technician and I specialize in Audio Video equipment. I have tested numerous makes of speakers so it was a pleasure to take a look at this Pinnacle Sub-Woofer.

First thing to look at is the build quality. One of the things I liked instantly are the solid brass isolation cones supplied with the sub-woofer. These are spikes which keep the sub-woofer raised from the floor. These are very important to audiophiles because they believe it is best not to have a speaker on the floor as it deadens the sound, plus it being raised is also important for ventilation.

The next thing to look at is the speaker itself. This can be done by pulling off the front cover. Some of my audio fanatic friends leave this cover off because they believe it gets in the way of the sound and is merely a dust cover. The actual speaker in this unit is tremendous, it is a 10" fiber-cone woofer and if you look at the speaker you can see the core moving in and out with purpose every time there is a heavy bass note. System power is 200 watts and the sound pressure level is over 120 db so this is very powerful.

The cabinet itself is often as important as the speaker. Most manufacturers want a 'dead' sound from the speaker cabinet so it doesn't interact with the speaker. This one is made of solid wood so you are assured of all around quality.

The only controls on this unit are the phase +/-, the frequency adjust and the level. The phase is meant to be set at what sounds most natural but set at the + if you can't tell the difference. The frequency adjust is set at the position which sounds best or again if you can't tell, then fully clockwise. This is basically for mid and upper bass frequencies. The level control is best set to a level in relative to your front speakers. I found the best thing to do was run the test sound from my amplifier and then set the controls.

The one thing you have to ensure is that the sub-woofer is connected to the sub-woofer output on your amplifier and that the setting on your amplifier for the center channel is for normal. The lead which connects to your amplifier is gold plated so guaranteed high quality.

Of course every system is different and there are other very important factors such as where you place the sub-woofer etc. I prefer just to the right and slightly behind my front main speakers.

I am very satisfied with the results from this sub-woofer, the bass sound is excellent without distorting or being too thundering and I would certainly rate it as a top end performer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Sound!, December 24, 2010

This review is from: Pinnacle Speakers SUB-SONIX 10-200 10-Inch 200 Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
I have a small house. The subwoofer that this one is replacing is a huge 15 inch sub I bought way back in the 1970s. It was simply too big for the room and I always wanted to replace it with something smaller I could hide away. This Pinnacle 10 inch subwoofer was featured during Black Friday and had a price I couldn't resist. As usual, the product arrived quickly from Amazon. It took very little time to set it up. LOVE the brass cone legs it uses for both looks and functionality (better sound, less "boominess"). I was able to hide it behind one of my main front speakers. For a 10 inch sub, this goes deep. Not quite as deep as my old 15 inch, BUT it has better upper frequency bass than my 15 inch sub had (remember it was very old - I'm sure new 15 inch subs are awesome). As the last three weeks have gone by the Pinnacle has actually improved and sounds smoother than it first did - all subs need to be used before they perform at their peak. I have watched all kinds of movies and concerts and they all sound great. I'm still playing with the controls on the back of the sub to get the sound just right for my room, but that would be true with any subwoofer. I highly recommend this sub - especially if you get it at a featured sale price.

Also, it has hard to find reviews for Pinnacle speakers and, so far at least, it has been impossible to get its full specifications such as how much power it draws when it is not in use (it has no "on/off" switch --- you have to unplug it to turn it off).

It actually sounds better than the sub I paid $800 for. Lots of definition/detail, goes quite low. Definitely the pinnacle of bass!

this machine brought back memories of the opening scene of 'Back to the Future' when Marty McFly hooks his guitar up to Doc Brown's Speaker. This subwoofer is ridiculous. The bass is off the charts. Now granted I would not pay full price but the Gold Box deal in the $100s is a steal. make sure you get the right sub-woofer cord (ie - don't go super cheap).

First, let me say that while I am not a professional or anything, but I am a music educator and professional musician that loves music, sound, and movies of all kinds and have had a home theater for about 12 years. I have used an 8" sub by infinity for about the last 8 years. While I liked it, I knew I needed more power and a deeper sound. I would not have purchased this particular one for the list price of $449. However, I got this on a lightening deal for $169. This is amazing! It is definitely worth more than that and sounds like a $500 sub. It rattles the walls and has a deeper sound than the ones that I had looked at in the store. I can not say enough good things about this sub. I read the reviews and took a chance. Glad that everyone posted such positive reviews and that I bought this one!

I have a 12 inch 300 watt Polk sub that is excellent and I can say this Pinnacle 10 inch Sub-Sonix can almost keep up with it. It does distort rather easily but that can be adjusted out with the cross over. This sub hits pretty hard and I have not even broken it in yet, so I am hoping it will only get better. The packaging needs to be improved my sub came with a broken grille. I am getting it replaced but it should have been packaged better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Speaker, August 8, 2011

This review is from: Pinnacle Speakers SUB-SONIX 10-200 10-Inch 200 Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
I have been very happy with this subwoofer. My needs are very simple and I needed something to fill in the lower frequencies of my home theater system. This subwoofer certainly does that. I have not pushed the sub that hard, but it definitely works well for watching TV and movies.

Hats off to Pinnancle though. I purchased a subwoofer from Amazon Warehouse Deals (meaning open box or a previously returned item). When the subwoofer arrived the pegs on the front mesh grill were broken off. Since I had absolutely no desire to ship back the entire subwoofer I contacted Pinnacle directly. For no charge they sent me some replacment pegs. I installed them on the subwoofer and now everything is in working order. The pegs and shipping probably only cost them a couple of bucks, but it really made my life a lot easier.

Can't give you a good comparison between different models out there, but I know that this one certainly does what I wanted it to do and provides quite a lot of bass.
