Switching to Pinnacle

When switching to Pinnacle, we recommend that you switch your pet over slowly. This is very important so you don’t disrupt your pet’s digestive pattern. Changing foods will often cause vomiting or diarrhea if not done correctly. Therefore, we recommend a 5-day transition before you begin feeding Pinnacle exclusively. The switch is an easy transition that includes both Pinnacle and your pet’s old brand. For the first two days, feed 20% Pinnacle and 80% of the old brand. For the next two days, feed 50% Pinnacle and 50% of your pet’s old brand. On day 5, feed 80% Pinnacle and 20% of the old brand. On the 6th day, you can feel confident feeding Pinnacle for the rest of your pet’s life. Please refer to diagram below:

When we got my dog, she barely ate. She didn't even like treats. We finally got her to eat, but the regular (more affordable) brands didn't sit well with her system. My vet recommended this or to cook her food on our own. Obviously, cooking food for a dog gets a bit time-consuming, but this Pinnacle food really was great for my dog. She finally started to gain weight. (She was so skinny when we got her from the shelter.)

My dog doesn't seem to have the farting problem the other reviewer said.

I guess every dog's system is different and you just have to find the one that's right for your dog. this one works great for ours :)

My canine companion is a 132 pound, five year old, Shiloh Shepherd. The Shiloh Shepherd is considered a 'giant breed.' With his enormous size, athleticism, and the general nutrient demands, we all must consider, his diet has always been a primary consideration. Not to mention, he has the sensitive tummy often seen among the German Shepherd breed. His breeder has always been partial to 'Premium Edge Lamb.' This is the formula he was weaned on. I had no desire to change what appeared to be a successful regimen.

Then to my dismay, I learned 'Premium Edge' was placed on a recent recall list. I knew that a change in diet was likely to be detrimental to my fur friend, but I had to take immediate action. And, at the time of recall, I didn't have time to gradually transition to a new diet, which is always the way to go, to avoid negative symptoms.

After carefully analyzing formulas of numerous dry kibble, I opted to give Pinnacle (Trout & Sweet Potato) a try, ordering a 15 pound 'starter' bag from Amazon. In addition, I ordered some digestive enzymes to assist in the transition phase.

The bag arrived. I opened it with my dog assisting to see what his response would be. The first whiff out of the bag was strong, smelling of fish. I noted the kibble size, itself, was quite small for a large breed dog, but felt this was only a minor reservation. The ultimate test was not what I thought about it, but what my Shiloh would. He immediately had a positive response. In fact --- he loves it! He appears more enthusiastic about it than the 'Premium Edge.'

I had to start the Pinnacle before the enzymes arrived, so I was expecting some terrible gas and possibly some diarrhea. Well, that was not the case.

My dog is allergic to just about every protein source and grain in the book. This, however, is one of just a couple foods that have the ingredients just right for her. If your dog can eat anything, I can't suggest this with a resounding "yeah" but if your dog has allergies or digestive issues, Pinnacle makes several unique formulas which could help (though this is the only one that works for my dog, Roxi.)

My small standard Australian Labradoodle named Kirby has a series of food allergies that we discovered when he was about 2 years old resulting in a series of hot-spots on his legs that he licked down to the raw flesh and required many vet visits and wearing of the cone-of-shame while healing. We found this food does not contain any of the allergic items after a professional Allergy test and gave it a try. We have been ordering from Amazon Prime and feeding him this flavor since Sept 2012 and have had no further allergy issues! Kirby has maintained his health and consistent 60 lb weight for the past 2+ years eating once per day. I highly recommend Pinnacle Trout and Sweet Potato Formula dog food, and the convenience of Amazon prime and one-click ordering with 2 day shipping has been great! Saves us from finding a store locally after Petco stopped carrying it, as well as carrying 30 lb bag, and paying $10-$15 more. Thanks Amazon for carrying this great dog food brand.

My Shar Pei was allergic to beef, chicken, and many other things. His face would swell and he would break out in hives all over. Had to go on Prednisone to get relief. I switched to this Trout and Sweet Potato and it saved his life. This food has been wonderful for him. No problems and he has been on it for over two years. He loves it, has so much energy and his coat is beautiful. No skin problems at all. I highly recommend it.

My dog has been on all manner of dog foods, including prescription and ziwi peak. While he did well physically on his prescription food (royal canin sensitivity control), it was a huge hassle trying to get him to eat it... He preferred to bury it instead. He ate ziwi peak enthusiastically, but he NEVER had solid tool at any time over the six or so months he was on it, plus for that much money, I think the dog rates a solid poo! Before his allergy testing, he also was on several more accessible brands with poor results. The company that did the allergy testing recommended this as a food that would not bother him.. I wish we would have tried it sooner, but we opted for other options recommended by vet first. He gulps it down, has shown no signs of allergies, and has three solid BMs each day. Completely happy and much better price than a lot of he options we have tried. Will continue to purchase!
