for lovers of killer doll movies...but it's a bit generic,
By
This review is from: Pinocchio's Revenge (DVD)
While this feels mostly like a made-for-cable-tv doll movie to cash in on made-for-theaters doll movies, it's still a fun one to add to your doll collection when you've run out of options such as the chuckies, trilogy of terror, dolly dearest, the puppet master series, and of course, DOLLS. The death count is very low, and the gore is really minimal, but there is some MAJOR full-frontal female nudity. There are some very suspenseful moments, but not a whole lot of impressive moving doll scenes. The little girl who acquires the doll is obnoxious and snotty and totally unlikeable--but what makes this different than your standard Chucky movie is that even the audience is unclear as to whether the doll or its young owner is the real killer.
This DVD is pretty no frills. FULL SCREEN, Dolby 2.0, with english or spanish language, and no extras. The film itself is a bit grainy, and not the cleanest transfer. But, it's not much of a surprise considering this isn't one of the most popular doll films. Get it if you must own every killer doll movie made, otherwise, rent it on a night when you're doing a horror marathon with some other stronger titles.

Good Horror, Surprise Ending,
By
This review is from: Pinocchio's Revenge (DVD)
This is a horror film about a little girl who becomes unwittingly possessed by the soul of a demonic puppet. It isn't clear how the Pinnochio doll became demonic, but in the opening, a little boy, possessed by the same doll, is killed and buried by a man who knew the truth--and was himself executed.
The best scene is when the little girl is pushed to the grass, but the acting of her fellow classmates leaves much to be desired: Dakota Fannings, they're not. When the killer is revealed in the conclusion, it will sadden you, and beckons for a sequel. Excellent horror. I suggest it highly.

Evil comes with strings attached,

Pretty creepy. Brittany Alyse Smith did an excellent job of playing the little girl Zoe. She is kind of a cross between Shirley Temple and Audery Rose. I'm still trying to figure out "who-done-it", logically it doesn't make sense.... or does it? The review above here that demands more blood and killing.... well if that is what you watch the movie for, you'll be disappointed. The nightly news is bloodier... but if you like an eight year old female Freddy Kruger OR was it wooden puppet Chuckie AKA Pinocchio... its fine.

good b-movie.,

This review is from: Pinocchio's Revenge (DVD)
An accused child murderer has been arrest five years ago, his lawyer ( Rosalind Allen) believes he's innocient as he may think that the Pinocchio puppet he made for his son told him to kill children and him. She couldn't stop his execution in time, however she accidenly brings home with her the Pinocchio doll from the office, her daughter "Zoe" ( Brittany Alyse Smith) is having a birthday party as she mistakens the doll as a gift. The next days seems strange as she has a relationship with the puppet as strange accidents start to happen, her mother is concerned about her daughter and must find out what is causing these bizare accidents.
Entertaining low budget horror thriller that is also a psychological one as well! it's one of those movies that are kind of a puzzle movie on who is the killer, is it the kid or the puppet who is doing the killing? or is it schizophrania in the child? the acting is good for a b-movie and the puppet is quite a creepy little one. The DVD is practically bareboned with no trailer or extras at all, just good picture with decent sound and a full screen presentation. Also recommended: "Magic" ( 1978), " Trilogy of Terror", " Dolls", " The Shining", " Pin..", "May", " Dead of Night ( 1945)", "Child's Play series", " Dolly Dearest", " Devil Doll ( 1964)", " Se7en", " Silence of the Lambs", " Psycho ( 1960)", " Puppet Master", " Making Contact ( a.k.a. Joey)", " Evil Dead II", "Scream", " American Psycho", "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer", " Tourist Trap".

If it's B horror you're seeking, look no further than an elf playing a puppet's body double,
By Sid the Elf (North Pole) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pinocchio's Revenge (DVD)
Whenever we, Sid the Elf, are in doubt about a movie to select for our B viewing we always tend to lean towards the fabled Golden Era of horror B. This is the time period from 1986-1996 that rarely disappoints. Our selection this time was Pinocchio's Revenge. This film was made in 1996, so it is right on the cusp time-wise. And judging by the cover, we knew this was a terrible film, so we were a little worried that it might have a little Jack Frost in it. By this we mean that the people in charge of the production knew the movie was irredeemable, so they threw in some comedy in the way of corny one-liners just to hedge their bets. But we lucked out when this flick actually tried to be good and scary. Of course it wasn't, so the only comedy came from us ripping it apart at a rate even we aren't usually capable of. Perfect. The result was the very essence of horror B. There aren't even any recognizable actors in this one except for Randolph, the butler from Wedding Crashers and Asian Reporter Trisha Takinawa.
Pinocchio's Revenge is a pretty self-explanatory title. The film centers around a doll who is devoid of all reason, all logic. In fact, it compels a man to become a mass child murderer. His lawyer suspects that the Pinocchio doll the killer made for his son is ultimately responsible for the murders, but can't prove it. So she mistakingly brings the doll home. Pretty big error, wouldn't you burn that thing asap? To make matters worse, she piles it on to her daughter's birthday presents, then lets the little girl keep it. By this point, you're hoping you see Pinocchio flogging Mom within the next 5 minutes. From here, the writing is on the wall. Pinocchio starts corrupting the girl, and she starts acting strange. She gets into a fight at school which is just pure cinematic genius. And all these bizarre accidents start happening, including a bus running the girl over. But don't worry, she bounced right back up and walked away without an explanation as to how. So, the little girl ices her classmate and her mom's boyfriend. But was it her or Pinocchio? That's what is in question at the end. What is not in question, however, is that this movie is the true essence of B. The fact that they only had enough budget to have one scene in which the puppet's mouth moved seals the deal. Then throw in the Journey to the West level acting from the foreign chick that Pinocchio watched shower, and you go up another star for atrocious acting as well as a totally gratuitous nude scene. Also, when the puppet's eyes moved in a decidedly Short Studd manner we couldn't believe it. We were actually on the fence of 2 1/2 to 3 stars at one point during this flick. But, then it happened. They showed Pinocchio running across the street. It was the spitting image of Sid chasing a chick down with a pink turkey baster. That's an instant 4-star effort. But, after a little research, we found out that it wasn't the late, great L DeJ in his final role as we guessed. It was Verne Troyer. Yep, a good 3 years before his role as Mini-me and about 10 years before his legendary Surreal Life stint, he was a stunt double for an inanimate object. Too bad they had him running instead of riding around on that little scooter of his. If you are looking for some scares and legitimate creepiness, this is not the movie for you. But, if it's an hour and a half of mocking something that your 8 year old could have come up with you enjoy like us, Pinocchio's Revenge is perfect for you. It fits the definition of unintentional comedy to a "T" therefore, it is an obvious choice for a Sid the Elf recommendation. It is also a nominee, and maybe the favorite, for the 2008 Woody Award for Best Surprise.

CHUCKY IN LIEDERHOSEN,
By
This review is from: Pinocchio's Revenge (DVD)
A recently divorced woman is raising her remarkably untalented child actress brat, along with an Italian Au Pair and her landscaping boyfriend. Mom is a bleeding heart liberal who works for the public defenders office and since her clients are the scum of the Earth, she and her landscaping boyfriend are a perfect match, both come home at night with unclean hands. Her latest client is a serial child-killer who admits he did the murders and being a bleeding heart liberal she believes he is innocent up to the moment the switch is pulled and he becomes a barbequed serial child killer. She is going over his personal property when she comes across a very ugly Pinocchio doll. The mother has arranged a birthday party for her remarkably untalented child actress brat but when the dolly she has ordered for the party is lost in shipment she gives brat the Pinocchio doll. And then the killings start. The movie has very little blood, very modest nudity(sorry Munyon) and a few minor scares but the movie is easy to watch but even easier to forget and is mostly a set-up for a surprise(not really) ending.

I dismissed this film back when it was released. The name just didn't interest me. Recently, I saw the director's other films, Night of the Demons ('80s original) and Witchboard ('80s original) and decided to give this one a try. Wow, what a fun film! The first part of the film was a little off, with the acting not up to par by the main lead actress, and it had a '90s feel to it (this was made in the '90s), but then it really picked up with a great story, some suspensful moments, a couple of scary moments (make sure your surround sound is turned on!), and really, Pinocchio was pretty cool. Much better than Chucky.
Tip: Lions Gate DVD is full screen, so use the zoom feature on your TV to get the theatrical experience. Looks better that way.

The strangest thing about this film is the voice of Pinocchio. it sounds like that kid from the 70s who did those weird cartoon voice overs. overall a fun movie but very predictable. not much on effects.

Oh, Thank you, Mommy. It's just what I've always wanted,
This review is from: Pinocchio's Revenge [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Attourney/mother brings home evidence from a murder sight, a hideously ugly psyke-damaging wooden marionette, and her daughter wants to keep it. She then proceeds to commit grisly murders and blame them on the puppet. Better than the average never heard of low budgeter with some quality product but there aren't many scares. Just good enough to be worth watching.

this is an obvious rip off of the talking tina and chucky movies.nobody whose sold out is in this one.this will definately scare your kids!it looks as if they spent about a buck fifty throwing this one together.chucky is far more likeable than pinnochio, but only the last childs play movie is better than this one.only those with a dark sense of humor will enjoy this one.some of the humor is rather dark, like a recording of a man screams as hes being burned alive.there is this sexy german baby sitter chick in thisone.they show her all in the shower.this is easily the best part.
