5.0 out of 5 stars THE solution for pre-wired homes.
If you purchase a home that is pre-wired for surround, it may come with each speaker terminal mounted on a single-gang electrical box (or J-box) with a blank plate covering it. The mount claims it can support up to 11 pounds when anchored to a stud. Technically that is true; however, although the mount itself will remain attached to the wall when a 10 pound speaker is used (which is what I have), the ball and socket joint that allows you to position the speaker lacks the ability to hold 10 pounds in the desired position. If you purchase a home that is pre-wired for surround, it may come with each speaker terminal mounted on a single-gang electrical box (or J-box) with a blank plate covering it. You can get any normal wall mount for your speakers, but most mounts do not mount on a J-box and you'll end up with a plate next to the mount. I wanted something cleaner and this mount does the trick. The plate itself is the mount.

This thing is pretty universal, and comes with screws and mounting options for various speakers. I installed my Sony satellites without a problem.

Using these mounts I kept my install clean.

It's also worth note that these can also be mounted directly into a stud or drywall, but these are a little pricier for that application and there are other options out there that do the job cheaper.

I'm absolutely satisfied with this purchase and would recommend them to anyone who has pre-wired surround installed with single-gang J-boxes.

Regardless of how tight you set the screws in the socket joint, the weight of the speaker drags the joint downard, causing the speaker to be aimed at the floor.

I would definitely use this mount for a speaker in the 5 pound range, but the mount clearly is not strong enough to hold 10 pounds, nevermind live up to its 11 pound claim.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor construction, March 5, 2009

This review is from: Pinpoint Black Speaker Wall/Ceiling Mount for Pre-Wired Home Theater - Pinpoint AM20B (Electronics)
I bought a pair of these to hold my front surround speakers. My speakers are only about 8 pounds and these mounts are not up to the task. Poorly constructed and difficult to adjust.

One of the mounts was defective. Unfortunately, since it is sold by J&R and not Amazon proper, the return process is inconvenient and I would be forced to pay return shipping, even though the product was defective.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well with Polk RM8 speakers, May 26, 2011
This review is from: Pinpoint Black Speaker Wall/Ceiling Mount for Pre-Wired Home Theater - Pinpoint AM20B (Electronics)
I have four of these to hold my Polk RM8 surround speakers in a 7.1 configuration and they work well. I decided to invert my Polk RM8 speakers and use the short stick vs. the long stick. As a result, I'm holding the speakers w/ the AM20 on "top" of the speaker and it "hangs downward" vs. anchoring at the base or "bottom" and trying to "hold up" the speakers. This helps provides better balance when hanging from the ceiling and no concern of slipping out of the desired position. Accessories make it flexible to mount pretty much any speaker, I did have to be patient and get creative w/ the first RM8 but it worked out well, wish I could upload a photo for you all. The screws that connect the wall/ceiling plate to the gang box are very long, so secure anchoring to the gang box is assured. The Polk RM8s are only about 3-lbs so I was assured there would be no issue of the ball joint "slipping". I will say this, I'd be a bit concerned if I tried to hold speakers towards the upper half of the weight limit... simply because I'm not convinced it'll hold 12-lbs. securely. I originally intended to acquire Polk Monitor30 speakers but was advised that the speakers are rather big and more suited for floor standing or a much larger theater space than my 20x22 room. But secure speaker mounting also depends on the speaker orientation too so it's not that I don't trust PinPoint's weight limit, just saying you have to be pretty patient and think it through if you are mounting a 10-lb+ speaker with the AM20.

The payoff of course is that the look as very simple and cleaner vs. speaker mounts + wall plate where speaker wires come out from. I'm quite satisfied w/ the look I have (not that I'd look at the speakers much once I get used to the setup). I'd certainly buy them again for speakers in the "lower half" of the weight limit.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best solution I could find - very pleased!, February 28, 2011

This review is from: Pinpoint Black Speaker Wall/Ceiling Mount for Pre-Wired Home Theater - Pinpoint AM20B (Electronics)
These mounts worked great for my rear surrounds. Very clean and elegant. I like how the speaker wire can feed through the plate, eliminating the need for a separate plate for speaker connection.

Each mount comes with plenty of hardware/extra parts for a variety of mounting possibilities. I had a lot of hardware left over. Also, each mount comes with an extra long allen wrench to make it easy to adjust the speaker angles once the speaker is mounted.

They are well made and very sturdy, with endless adjustment possibilities. I saw one review on here that said that they needed to add a lock washer on the backside of the plate to prevent the mounting post from turning - well, both of the mounts I bought came with lock washers, plus the threaded post that inserts through the plate has flat areas on both sides (in other words, it's "keyed"), so it's pretty much impossible for the mounting arm to twist or slip once fastened to the plate.

My home was not prewired, however, with an unfinished basement, I was able to fish speaker wire up through the walls between the studs, and then I used a single gang mounting bracket to hange the speakers on: Arlington LV1-1CS Single Gang Low Voltage Mounting Bracket Device

The product works. I have used 2 of these brackets for my Bose Acoustimass 16 II rear speakers. They are both mounted to the existing low voltage rings in the ceiling where the pre-wire had been run during construction. They were very easy to install, position and work with.

I used the single gang outlet cover and it is solid, no vibration, no movement and it looks very professional. To make the yellow wire match and look just as clean & professional I spent $1.95 at Home Depot to buy the heat shrink black sleeves to slide over the wire. Now I've got a nice clean installation with a black wire coming out of the ceiling & straight into the Bose speaker.

The bracket came with ALL the hardware necessary to mount it to the wall or single gang duplex box. It also came with all the hardware necessary to attach to most any speaker that I could see. It fit perfectly onto the back of the speaker. The speaker does not move at all when screwed to the mount.

Very satisfied.
Shipping, order, etc. was all as expected and reliable!

Absolutely the perfect mounts for my Bose surround speakers. The speaker wires pull through from inside the wall so no extra wire is seen. The ball joint allows for virtually any positioning angle. Very sturdy and easy to assmble and mount. Highly recomend!

OK so I have read all the reviews on this product and I still purchased it. For all the people who rated it low you are WRONG INDEED! This product is great and very universal! The picture shows it with a single gang wall plate but it also comes with hardware for just mounting as well. I used this product on to single gang mud plates i installed and it is extremely sturdy metal. The wall plate is metal too!!

point blank......I will purchase this item again!

5.0 out of 5 stars fits the bill for new home 5.1 ceiling mount, May 27, 2011

This review is from: Pinpoint Black Speaker Wall/Ceiling Mount for Pre-Wired Home Theater - Pinpoint AM20B (Electronics)

Almost exactly what I needed for a new 2011 home with 5.1 home theater pre-wire upgrade. Only caveat is it does not work with my Sony center speaker as-is. The key-hole mount on the speaker had to be widened using a drill for the mount to work.
