  • The Sleeth is a slug, snake like creature that slithers through the tall Daro grass. He loves to play games and can often be seen chasing his own tail. He eats anything in sight, especially the Fraaky
  • The Skitter is similar to the Earth rabbit in size. He likes to hop to great heights, but often bops his head on low hanging branches. His large ears allow him to hear things miles away
  • The Fraaky, the tiniest creature of the Daro prairie, scurries to and fro, bonking into things and feasting on dust too small to see with the naked eye His best friend and main predator is Skitter
  • The Lankum is a slow creature, but his tongue is fast and he loves to talk. The Lankum is shy and embarrassed by his appearance. He shares much more than a meal with the Herkin

Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Pint Size Productions Alpha Series are the odd inhabitants of Daro, a small green planet with a primitive Earth-like atmosphere. Daro teems with wildlife, and its exceptionally social and gracious species flourish in complex — but, oddly, very friendly — ecosystems. These award winning plush nesting dolls are delightful to kids and adults alike. They fit one inside the mouth of another and serve as a fun science lesson as well as cute and cuddly toys.

My granddaughters, aged 7 and 10, just received Food Chain Friends and immediately fell in love with them. The creatures are all soft, cuddly, and utterly endearing. Some of them are reminiscent of real animals (bunny, lamb, turtle, fish), but each one is marvelously quirky, with its own personality and unusual name. My granddaughters are old enough to enjoy the irony of these creatures being friends, who live and play together, and yet eat each other. The packaging includes a short description of the planet Daro, where the creatures live, and a paragraph telling what each one likes to do. Older children will enjoy the imaginary world these creatures inhabit, while younger ones will be happy cuddling with them, and putting the smaller creatures into the larger ones and taking them out. I have 2 grandnieces approaching 1st and 4th birthdays, and I plan on getting each of them a Food Chain Friends series. A great toy that can easily be played with for many years.Food Chain Friends - Alpha Series Set

Santa will leave the Food Chain Friends under the tree for our girls later this month. As a parent, I look forward to watching them play with their new "Friends". But as a Zoologist, I'm excited to introduce my girls to difficult scientific concepts like bottom-up and top-down effects in food chains and (hopefully) ignite a scientific curiosity in their minds. Food Chain Friends is a brilliant toy which both entertains and enriches the mind.

I bought this toy as a Christmas present for my 3 year old daughter to give my husband, who's a kid at heart who loves unique toys. I'm sure they will play with this set together, or my daughter will steal it... but it is definitely a winner of a concept. The toys are so soft and adorably quirky. I also like that it teaches the food chain concept in a fun way. I can see this being a favorite, and can't wait to give it to hubby!!

I got this for my 5 year old grandson for Christmas. All 5 of the critters are loveable, sturdy and unique. He is thrilled. I find that we are all challenged by the fact that they are original critters named and defined including their species & habitat. A delightful and original toy.

We all think these are great! They are funny and amusing. Plus, the baby thinks it's hysterical if you act like they are eating you or the other ones!
