Es La Cosa! Cóhelo!,

This review is from: Pintame (Audio CD)
I first saw Elvis Crespo at the Carnival '99 on Telemundo. At first his voice sounded a bit nasal for my taste, but as I watched him entice that huge audience to "Levántate"(Get on up), I realized what a talent he has. I have only heard a bit of his previous album and plan to buy it, but I love this one. The man has style and such a fun positive attitude. "Píntame" is great song with a catchy beat and a sweet sentiment. It is a credit to Elvis that he wants to write songs that respect women (he has said this in an interview). My other favorites are "Solo me Miro", "No Comprendo" and "Vuelve Conmigo". "Tiemblo" is also fun. The mix of the horns, piano and percussion just makes me want to dance. I also really love his backup singers. The ballad "Enamorado De Ti" is a nice break in the middle of the album. The guitar music is beautiful and it allows you to catch your breath before "Por El Caminito". The only disappointment was "Pequeño Luís". I found it maudlin and out of place with the other songs. The lyrics to most of the songs are not complex, but for non-Spanish speakers that is really a plus. I'm fluent, but Spanish is a second language for me and I love being able to sing along even though the songs are fast. Anyone who likes this album should check out his duet "Para Darte Mi Vida" with Milly Quesada on her new album "Vive". I play both albums all the time! I am ready for his next album any time he wants to release one! Cóhelo, AaaaH!

This is NOT SALSA but MERENGUE,

The album is good, not a doubt, very dancing and very fun. But I am writing this to say that, despite classified under latin/salsa section, this album is not salsa music, in contrary to some statements I read in this section. In spite of being very similar, both rhythms are different, and dance differently. In fact, Elvis Crespo is a merengue composer, and this album show some really good merengues. But if you're looking for salsa, try Marc Anthony intead.

This album is so up beat and yet it has it's slow ballads also, if your not in to salsa music you will be after hearing this album. Hearing elvis sing and hear the music brings out the dance in you. I went and bought this cd because i was curious as to what he sounded like . . .no regrets whatso ever. If you do not understand spanish or spanglish then you will certanlly want to learn after hearing this album.

'Pequeño Luis' and 'Enamorado de Ti' show a different side of Elvis Crespo. I love it when he gets in touch with his feelings. I listen to this album over and over. I love his voice.

Pintame - The Best Album of Crespo,
By Ashley (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pintame (Audio CD)
This album by Crespo is by far the most diverse. Almost every song has something distictive about it. From the strong merengue beat of Pintame, to the sexy Por El Caminito, to (my favorite to dance to) Eres Tu. If you love merengue, you can NOT miss this album.

The best Merengue songs I ever heard.,

As a new fan I would like to say that this one of the best records of Elvis Crespo so far. The fast upbeat makes me want to move and the words gives me the inspiration to find that special girl to love. I really can't wait for next cd to come to the market.

The Most Overrated Merengue Album in My Lifetime (25 Years),
By
This review is from: Pintame (Audio CD)
What helped this album's popularity is that it rode on "Suavemente's" wings. It sounded too much like it. It was released too soon after Suavemente. It also seems that when Suavemente was made the 10 best songs are picked and 50 weeks later, the leftovers where thrown in it's own album; Pintame. The the blame for this album was put on Wow Flash, a much better album. Sony Discos goes too far to please I don't know who to earn a buck; stop forcefeeding barely bilangual kids in the States this Spanglish [....] Please, no more remixes. It kills me when one of Crespo's songs are nominated and they put that mediocre club version. [....]

Oh well..........,

It seems that the best song he ever made was "suavemente" I mean the rest of his music are o.k. But it seems like all of his songs sound the same. I'ts just like Oro Solido said, that most of the puerto rican merengueros "SUENAN LO MISMO" Yes I'm a huge merengue fan (hasta la tambora) and the only thing that would impress me is if they would use more of their own styles "stop copying" from each other................
