Colorful stress reducer!,

This review is from: Pinwheel Designs (Dover Design Coloring Books) (Paperback)
One look at this Pinwheel Designs coloring book and my hands were itching to get to work!
There are endless possabilities for combinations of colors here -- there are no limits to how you can transform these Pinwheel Designs. If you've never tried one of the adult coloring books, this would be a great one to start. For a little price, you can let your love of color and design run wild --probably reducing your stress level as you work. Have fun!

loved the designs...worthy of many color options and providing creativity to my own art,

This is one of the better teen to adult coloring books, but I have to say, I enjoy it most for the ideas that I develop using color patterns and designs with my own art (mosaics, jewelry, painting, collage, felting). When I received this book, I had to immediately try one with a color pattern that "spoke" to me. I also had to select two more with two other color selections specifically fitting the design. I have to say that the artist, Wil Stegenga, has provided some of the better coloring/art pattern books with a modern flair that I like. PS: Recommend you use hard to medium colored pencils to adequately fill the images. Larger and softer pencils may work for some images, but for details the other type of pencils work best (e.g. Primacolor Verithin pencils).

Great Designs,
This review is from: Pinwheel Designs (Dover Design Coloring Books) (Paperback)
This book of designs has been a great (and surprising!) way to open up my husband's creativity. He agreed to try coloring one of the designs and it turned out so beautiful, he is now working on completing the whole book. The spaces in this one are large enough and not too flowery-feminine for a guy to color. These books have turned into a relaxing and fun pastime for us both. They're a great way for people who consider themselves artistically challenged to see how creative they can be with color. A little success goes a long way!

I found the designs in this book challenging and interesting. I am an older adult who has been coloring for years, finding it relaxing and creative. There is one big drawback with this book though, if you use markers (as I do) having designs printed on the back side of the page doesn't work. The markers show through onto the back side so you are unable to color those pages, leaving you with only half the amount of pages to color.

Pinwheel DesignsMy daughter and I have found these coloring books to be very therapeutic. Definite stress relievers and so much fun. I have found they work best with colored pencils and a lite touch, my daughter prefers marker pens. If you want to display your work, you'll need to copy the design and color that as the books have prints on the front and back of the page.

great for fine point/pencil work,

These are very intricate designs. Staying in the lines is difficult on some of these even with ultra fine point pens($harpies).
I would not recommend getting this for little kids as they would have trouble with the small spaces. As a marker person this suffers from the same thing as all Dover books - They are printed on both sides of the page. This means you will have to pick which side you want and the other will be useless. This is not true if you use colored pencils though. You could always photocopy them if you wanted. Be warned that these will take a lot more time than most other patterns. They also require more precision. But the patterns are just beautiful and I'm enjoying their difficulty level.

I liked the pictures,

I liked the pictures in this book. I wish the pictures were printed on only one side of the paper. I use markers to color them in, and alot of the time, the darker colors bleed through the paper.

A bit disappointed,

I purchased this book along with some others. The problem I have with this book is that the designs are on both sides of the page. While this is the green way to go, you really can only use the design on one side not both. I also agree with one of the other reviewers you said that some of the designs are too busy.

I enjoy this book but my only wish was that some of the patterns were a bit more complex - I tend to enjoy the more challenging designs in this book. Overall there is a good mix of complex and more simple designs.

My only complaint is that there is some slight "bleed thru" when coloring the pictures with markers. However, coloring with pencils or crayons presents no problem. If you have access to a copier and want to keep your books pristine, copy off the page you wish to color...and no, that's not intended to say, "Commit copyright infringement"...lol.
