Fabric Definition
Bamboo-Derived Rayon and Cotton: Bamboo-derived rayon and cotton is a supremely soft fabric comprised of both rayon derived from bamboo and cotton fibers in varying ratios. The bamboo plant lends itself perfectly to the making of fabrics. Bamboo-derived rayon's porous fibers make a cloth with a breatheability and moisture absorption greater than cotton and a softness comparable to silk and cashmere. Bed and bath linens made of bamboo-derived rayon and cotton provide the very best qualities of each fiber.
Flannel: Flannel fabrics are noted for their fuzzy softness, warmth, and durability, and they can be dyed or printed. Thought to have been popularized in Wales in the 17th century, flannel was an all-wool fabric made of woolen or worsted yarns, with a brushed surface and a soft napped finish obscuring its weave. Flannel may be plain woven or twill woven and, today, most flannel fabrics are made of cotton fibers or synthetic rayon fibers that are slightly napped on both sides to resemble the old woolen or worsted yarn weaves. A wide range of flannel weights and textures is available. The fabric weight and quality of the napping affect the warmth and softness of the fabric. Many people prefer flannel bedding during the cold, winter months, but some flannel weights are appropriate in breatheability and comfort all year long.

History of the Region
Portugal’s major textile factories are located in Guimaraes, known as the “cradle” or “birth city” of Portugal, since it is home to the castle of Portugal’s first king. As one of the country's most historic cities with well-preserved monuments, it is a popular tourist attraction. Among other sites to see are two squares with outdoor cafes and balconied houses, called Praça de Santiago and Largo da Oliveira. At Largo da Oliveira are the old Town Hall and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira, with a Gothic shrine erected in 1340 standing before it. There are many legends about its origins, but a popular story says it marks the spot where Wamba, elected king of the Visigoths, refused his title and drove a pole into the ground swearing that he would not reign until it blossomed, and it sprouted immediately. Guimaraes hosts an annual 3-day festival of medieval art and costume in the first week of August, which dates from the middle of the 15th century and includes a torchlight procession and a medieval parade. Not only renowned for textiles and historical sites, Guimaraes is in the heart of the “Vinho Verde” region, so called for its locally produced fresh, young “green wines.”

This was our fourth set of Pinzon flannel sheets, however this is our first set with bamboo woven into the sheet. Pinzon sheets are great, these are beyond great. Can flannel sheets be silky? These cotton/bamboo flannel sheets are - amazingly so. The sheets out of the package are not skimpy; we washed our sheets according to the package instructions and there was no noticible shrinkage. On the bed, these sheets are not skimpy and would fit a thicker matress than ours is which is about medium in thickness, but not a pillowtop. The weight of these sheets is akin to a summer blanket. Some all cotton flannel sheets can feel "baked" and stiff after they've been run through a dryer, but these were soft, light.
One word of caution, though: as with all flannel sheets, check the dryer's lint trap very frequently during their first drying cycle - the lint off fresh flannel sheets can plug up your dryers lint screen very quickly. These sheets are no exception - in fact we cleared out the lint screen about seven times over the first drying period. Other than that, I recommend these sheets without any reservations.

These sheets are very soft medium weight flannel but they pill like crazy. I have little balls of flannel all around the bed that are annoying to clean up and after 4 weeks and 4 washings areas of the surface are starting to pill and have lost the nap. Overall I am disappointed in these sheets and I don't expect them to last very long. I would recommend looking at the Pinzon 190 gram Velvet Flannel sheets.Pinzon 190-Gram Velvet Flannel Queen Sheet Set, Chamois They are almost as soft but wear so much better. I had a set in constant use for 3 months washing them once a week and they still look and feel like new. A great value for the same price as these bamboo blend sheets.

I purchased these sheets as a birthday gift for my 89-yr-old-mother: the woman who has everything she wants or needs. She is a very practical woman and I was sure that she was going to wonder why in the world she needed another set of sheets, but ..... to my surprise she was pleased and excited about the gift. And that was BEFORE she even used them!!! Now that she has tried them she is more than excited! She thinks they are like sleeping in a warm, silk cloud and absolsutely LOVES them!
